30. 08. 1980 vor dem Reichstag in Berlin ! Ich war dabei. 13 Jahre alt. Ein Konzert das ich niemals vergessen werde!! Ich hab schon wieder ne Gänsehaut! Leider fehlt hier die Version von damals aber wenigstens Hymn ist von damals vorhanden!
Les i saw you allin Germany many times when you were massive over there and vertually unknown in the UK, again at the westfallenhalle Dortmund and elsewhere brings back my youth and heyday, thanks guys it was real, Dave Martin
I had the pleasure of seeing Les Holroyd in Chesterfield a few years ago - still brilliant. Berlin always evokes some incredible emotions - you could be on the airoplane
les plus beaux souvenir de mes ex 33 tours des légendes-barcley james harvest c'est toujours une passion et des émotions qui me font vibrer toute ma vie, merci messieurs
thank U Toggerty!! All the members are still busy and grey, for that let's hope they come around with 3 (Mel is gone what a pity : one of the best drum-players... : he let us know between guitars and synths what real drumming was!) Les+son (Trumpet???) let us make that Barclay James Harvest still exist (with John and Woolly on the other hand...Great last CD from Woolly anyway!
This is really a new version of the 1978-Berlin-version, so beware (everyone involved is nearly 60 : so respect!) From a 47-years old Fan : They are 60+ OK?
Les is 60. Ian Wilson is 58, Steve Butler is 50, Mike Byron-Hehir is 55, Colin Browne is 56 and Paul Walsham is 30. This is from Live in Bonn recorded in 2002. Not really a new version just the way Les' band play it.
What is it with you people? Why are you always knocking Les? I worked with the band in the early 80's and Les and Mel were brilliant to get on with. I love this song and this video is so moving with Mel. They were very close you know.
One more thing. Les is a stunning bass player and a great writer. If anything his songs are more melodic and accessible and if you want to use the word commercial because they are 'catchy'. Also dont forget that Mel Pritchard, by far the best 'musician' in BJH was part of this too.
I was about to dimiss all this and ignore. But don't you EVER insinuate that I don't appreciate Mel. I will never get over his death and the fact that I never got to see him play. I don't care what you say about me, but please leave him out of it.
I'm not after anargument. Can we please agree to disagree?
"He(Les) seems to constantly slagged by old gits who think John Lees and Woolly were BJH."
This is not true, even the most ardent John and Woolly fans accept the "true" BJH were the foursome, JLBJH and for that matter BJHFLH are respective interpretations of the "classic" band ...
Yes there are two factions, some fans prefer one or the other, some like both, so long may they continue to perform great music.
Just accept that Barclay James Harvest are no longer what they were like all the other proggy bands of the 70's. This is a better version of Berlin than when last I saw BJH and I'm a big fan.
I meant there is no need for anyone to resort to abuse just because someone doesn't agree entirely with someone elses viewpoint, totally uncalled for...
I agree with you this is a wonderful version of Berlin,
Les is and always has been one of my favourite musicians...regarding Mel I even took time off work to attend his funeral and pay my respects to a great guy, a very sad loss..
I think BJHFLH are EXCELLENT (all of them, especially Mike)...So good in fact that I will be going to see them for the THIRD time in the last few years.
But they are not Barclay James Harvest. They ceased to be in either 1979 or 1997 depending on your point of view..........
Very nice music - but BJH died forever when Mel did. I would be happy to go see them (and I think I saw the real BJH about 35 times). They live in my memory as one of the best bands ever.
They can never be reformed - just like Genesis (also one of the best bands ever) could never be reformed after Peter Gabriel left.
Long live the true BJH - in our hearts if not in our ears
Dont understand. There is no question of reforming. I saw them live recently in concert, and apart from the drummer who died, with John and wooly playing, that for me is B.J.H. Carlos
I saw a lot of bands when I was an undergraduate in the 70s - but BJH (and Be Bop Deluxe) were always my favourite. Must have seen them 30 times. Long live BJH!
BJH split a long time ago and this is Les' band. He seems to constantly slagged by old gits who think John Lees and Woolly were BJH. Woolly was important and John wrote some good songs but Les has got this band and they do justice to his songs. I've seen them twice and they blew me away. Shame Les's songs did not sound like this with Mr Lees.
Barclay James Harvest WERE John, Les, Mel and Woolly.........
This lot are NOT Barclay James Harvest, they are Les Holroyd's interpretation of the group that existed pre 1979 when Woolly left...(and very good they are too, especially MBH)

That was inpsired and very polite. I wasn't being horrible to you or any fans. I'm just stating an opinion, I don't know for sure, but I would imagine you're old enough to know better
What an excellent live rendition of this BJH classic. Seems somehow sad to not have Mel's killer drumming, as it was such a big part of the live versions from "Berlin" and "Glasnost". Thanks again for sharing this with the YouTube community, and for helping to keep "BJH-awareness" alive and well.
