  • Wow, sad. Sounded damn good though!

  • Damn...Can't find any videos of original Willys...

  • thats what happens when you drive at night with your headlights off

  • :(

  • So glad you're alright. Beyond that, I'm hoping it was a repro 'glass body. Would be an even bigger shame if it was real. Am I right in assuming that the car tried to slow too quickly under compression and that's what caused the skid?

  • I knew him. I was there that night.

  • I could hear " igot it, I got it

  • I could just feel him saying oh fuck!!!!

  • the car looks great and this video doesnt do your it justice. Ive seen you at a test and tune and it was nuts. Nice job

  • Wow... Was that a fibregalss body or an original willys? I'm glad you're okay, but I can't imagine how much it would cost to destroy and replace an original body!

(for the record, it looks fibreglass, to me.)

  • Thank you.

  • Quit bitching about the music guys. This video doesn't have to be on here period jackasses.

  • wow that was terrible

  • It'll buff right out. No worries. lol In all seriousness, it's good to see the driver made it out unscared. Also glad to see that you have the car back up and running again. Good on ya guys!

  • ...well that sucks.

  • The car was pulling to the right on the first pass. One the second pass he over corrected for the pull. The crew chief should have caught it and compensated with air pressure....

  • Please, NO music when these beauties are running.

  • wow THAT SUCKASS

  • Luck ran out.

  • NNNOOOOOOOOOO, hard to watch that beautiful car being destroyed.

  • WE WILL MISS YOU RICK R.I.P.

  • That thing sounded great, but that low air pressure will get you at the top end if you not careful.

  • @ballucanb1 mabey his lane should be preped better

  • @richgroh100 No I think it was the way a car with low air pressure in the slicks, starts going nuts after you take your foot out of it at the top end.

My old G/s Pontiac used to start swaying like that willys did and you had to steer your way out of it until you slowed enough for it to stop, almost got away on me a few times

  • Built right! Shame though. Glad he is okay.

  • this video is 2 minutes too long please give me back the 2 minutes that I just wasted watching this crappy movie

  • Could of did without the cheesy muzac!

  • Good grief, lose the damn music. Our interest here is h.p., go somewhere else to impress folks with your piccolo or whatever you are obsessed with.

  • Should have had his lights on lol

  • I know shit happens but it's a real shame to destroy a steel body Willys, can't be many more left.

  • poor willy hope it gets bak n running

  • poor guy. i can only imagine how much time, money and effort it took to get that car to be that sweet. it really sucks that this car was crashed but at least Rick was okay.

  • i was there that night sittin on a 4 wheeler at the end of the track about 30 from the accident yeay that was scary shit not as bad as a top fuel explosion that i have witnessed but bad enough good luck with the up comming races buddy im sure ill see you at the grove again

  • well, there goes another one. there are only so many of those around, you know. should have made it into a street rod.

  • Bet that hurt.... bummer!

  • great lookin' car, to bad its destroyed

  • ooooooopppsss! ....that poor car!

    -Shawn from Mc.Brides

  • a gasser is not a dragster and vise versa a dragster ,fed , rail, slingshot, are all frame cars a gasser is sedan or coupe based other wise cool footage

  • did you see what he did wrong?

whenever your hard on the gas at high speed iff you don't ease off the throttle it causes the cars/bikes to become slightly unstable

as the shift in weight from acceleration to deceleration , then because of engine compression , it caused the back wheels to compression slow the car,- top class cars hit the chute then the motor- keeps it stable

  • just skip to 2:11 to see the crash the rest is junk 1 star

  • that is wat u wuld now call fucked, good to hear its back out though

  • SACRILEGE....

There's a HEMI running and you fucked it up by playing music, THE HEMI IS THE MUSIC !!!

  • gave me chills, and sick at the same time hotrodharold

  • Comment removed

  • sweet ride!!! to bad about the whipeout....hope you can fix it!

    ARSpromotions....sounds good!

  • Oh man, that's the sweetest '41 I've seen. Nice, NICE work. Too bad about the wreck. Glad you're okay.

  • its nice to see that he fix it back up after 9 months , please take care , and be safe but have lots of fun...

  • sick ass car glad to see that your ok

  • I'm glad to see that you were not hurt in any of this. The car looks great now. I was set up right next to you this past weekend @ Byron (red Mustang). You do have my dream car. I would love to build one.

  • I had a 40 Willys Coupe the wheel base is only 100" the width is 70" thats a a pro street car has all that rubber under the fenders not a good idea if that would have

been a gasser the wheels would have been on the outside of the fenders it probably would have been ok with that much power idiot driver

  • Looks like the high center of gravity doesn't help these old school gassers out either

  • Losing a car sucks but you can always replace the car the driver would be hard to replace.

  • Yea he was alright.... Untill he sall the car.

  • Aw that really stinks!!! Nice car glad he was okay.

  • Good thing u r ok!

but that was really sad at the end...

  • good ole Great Lakes Dragaway

  • uh yea that was steel. if it was a glass car it would have been totaled. no body left on that chassis.

  • Got a version of this without the music - need to hear the tires and motor to really appreciate this.

  • Looks like it oiled and got the back wheels. What a shame... I love those cars!

  • Was that a steal willys? if so that sucks so much harder

  • i think it was made from hemp

  • 1:52 awsome :)

  • wot went wrong?

  • Thats a shame to see that happen to such a great car, i personaly knew, the guy that built and owned that car, he sold it when he was diagnosed with cancer, and we lost him, the 26th of august 2008

  • A little rubbing compound would fix that

  • great video to bad about the lost.you had to much air under that car at top end. it must have been really bad out of control like that. glad to see that you are ok.

  • wow that thing sounds so good, to bad it was destroyed, glad to see driver walked away unscarred.

  • the Willy's back on the track again. check out our other short "Willys Back on the track again".

  • If he could have pulled the shoot, it would have straighted right up and he could have saved it..

  • ah shit thats a terrible thing to see happen to a beauty like that

  • terrible luck bro

  • whoa, what can i say. sad day

  • Beautiful Little Willys, Drag Racing certainly aint Easy! Lots of people think that going in a straight line is Boring? Theres a whole lot of science too it as well !!

  • that breaks my heart

  • that totally makes me sick...destroyed a really good car...wonder what made him slide sideways like that

  • Wow Rick this is the first time I've seen this video. I'm glad you were ok!! Jake

  • was it worth it!

  • BEAST

  • Too true.

  • Thankfully no one was hurt. I hope you can recoup the losses and get back on the dragstrip soon.

  • go to youtube "Willys back on the track again"

  • Many of the comments show that the writers have no real experience with a light car that has lots of power. A Honda with 200 hp is not a fast car, all due respect. A car half the weight of a Honda with 4 times the power is. When the power "hits" at a certain rpm, the "handling" can be suddenly and unpredictably effected. A broken or bent suspension piece, slightly low tire or getting a few inches out of the "groove" can be devastating.

  • looks like trans overflow from the tube was pushed out during the shutdown. if it leaks back on the tires it makes for a wild ride. it happened to me at E-Town :(

  • I don't think anything went wrong with the car...it looks like he got into something slick on the track (oil or antifreeze)

  • thats a real shame was a beautfull car a good thing the driver walked away

  • alot of theories about what happened during the wreck, but the car was so damaged after the accident....who knows...I've been over the car several times...who knows? Maybe should've pulled the shoot to mitigate damages

  • Good for you & your response. It never ceases to amaze me how some people are so proud of their stupidity. Their are only just so many perfect people in the world and you & I are not among the No2craps of the world. Glad that you were not hurt bad and have a Merry Christmas...

  • No2carp,

MAybe someday you can identify who you are and we can meet face to face

  • no2carp,

I started racing in 1971. I have driven several 8 & 9 second cars. If you knew anything about these old gassers..They have a mind of their own on the other end. I know the risk of racing a 1941 Willys down the track. I love this car. I may be a dumbass for risking the car, but I fixed better than it was before. What good is a race car if you can't take it down the track. Exper. driver...

  • Rick's a Dumb Ass. I've seen it time and time again. Inexperence drivers with too much horsepower who think as soon as they pass the finish line let they can let off all the gas and suddenly go into a hydroplane because of the back pressure of the engine. Repeat Ricks a DUMB ASS

  • letting off the gas on a blown car will help as a braking effect i doubt this caused the crash more like a stuck brake i no this car very well and never done anything like this so before u call people a dumbass no what your talking about

  • Letting off the gas on any car acts as a braking effect,You can join Ricks ranks. I ll call anyone a Dumb Ass who trashes a car like that because human stupity.

  • not to run this in the ground but on a blown car will act more of a jake brake effect. I've only been around and worked on this car for 20 years before being sold.wonder how many 9 sec passes of going straight down the track that is on a blown motor letting off the gas at the end . to many tire kickers that no to much. ha - maybe Rick could reply and tell us what happened. were all human

  • dude, shhhh...crashes will happen with drag racing, no body is a dumb ass. beautiful willys, shame about the crash!

  • Pretty ignorant response.

  • no2carps, that is.

  • when are you cuming out with your new video of this car as under pressure

  • Under Pressure was at the track on labor day weekend with the Midwest Gassers and we got some footage of it then. The Full Legnth DVD is in the works now and should be available mid-December. Stay tuned...

  • is this the car that Danny fisk used to own if so does it still have the small blk

  • I was there during this crash to, so if this car is called Under Pressure they really did a nice job fixing it.

  • Hey isn't this car called Under Pressure now or is that a different Willy cause it looks just like this one, but only it's fixed and it had a few problems during Labor day. If so they did a nice fixing it up after the crash.

  • Does anybody remember a made for tv movie from the 70s that had a Willy's Wipeout in it? I think it starred Jan Michael Vincent or somebody like that. There was also a Mopar of some sort involved in the movie... what was it called?

  • jspen...the movie was HOT ROD STORY

  • Thanks so much man. I've wondered about that for years... Amazon actually has it. But it isn't cheap.

  • p.s. It's actually called just plain old HOT ROD.

  • Oh...my bad. I know you can get it for about $20.00. I will find out who I bought mine from and send you a PM.

  • Cool!

  • I love the crashes that is as long as no one is hurt.

  • We're looking forward to seeing you too!!!

  • tape everything from the stands

  • I was there when that happend, but I didn't get the accident on tape I thought everything was fine and then I looked again I saw smoke and stuff. Man that sucks I didn't know how bad it really was I had no idea it flipped over even. All I knew is that it hit the wall thats it. At least he was ok, but will we ever see that car again does anyone know?

  • The car made a run yesterday had problems with the rearend..should be back at the track soon...

  • really thats cool

  • I feel for you. Always when getting off it after the lights it get loose. Did it spit out a valve cover gasket or such? Sad trait that huffers push out oil.

  • the body has been fully restored

the entire car will be running in 4-6 weeks

  • Well - like that guy said to Toad on American Grafitti - "Man what a waste of machinery!"

  • man what a waste, you should fix it anywayz

  • lovey car shame it had to end like that but if you dont crash your not trying!!

  • oh my god...

  • nooooooooooooooooooooooooo! that was such a nice gasser. nevermind eh!
