So glad you're alright. Beyond that, I'm hoping it was a repro 'glass body. Would be an even bigger shame if it was real. Am I right in assuming that the car tried to slow too quickly under compression and that's what caused the skid?
Wow... Was that a fibregalss body or an original willys? I'm glad you're okay, but I can't imagine how much it would cost to destroy and replace an original body!
It'll buff right out. No worries. lol In all seriousness, it's good to see the driver made it out unscared. Also glad to see that you have the car back up and running again. Good on ya guys!
The car was pulling to the right on the first pass. One the second pass he over corrected for the pull. The crew chief should have caught it and compensated with air pressure....
@richgroh100 No I think it was the way a car with low air pressure in the slicks, starts going nuts after you take your foot out of it at the top end.
My old G/s Pontiac used to start swaying like that willys did and you had to steer your way out of it until you slowed enough for it to stop, almost got away on me a few times
poor guy. i can only imagine how much time, money and effort it took to get that car to be that sweet. it really sucks that this car was crashed but at least Rick was okay.
i was there that night sittin on a 4 wheeler at the end of the track about 30 from the accident yeay that was scary shit not as bad as a top fuel explosion that i have witnessed but bad enough good luck with the up comming races buddy im sure ill see you at the grove again
a gasser is not a dragster and vise versa a dragster ,fed , rail, slingshot, are all frame cars a gasser is sedan or coupe based other wise cool footage
whenever your hard on the gas at high speed iff you don't ease off the throttle it causes the cars/bikes to become slightly unstable
as the shift in weight from acceleration to deceleration , then because of engine compression , it caused the back wheels to compression slow the car,- top class cars hit the chute then the motor- keeps it stable
I'm glad to see that you were not hurt in any of this. The car looks great now. I was set up right next to you this past weekend @ Byron (red Mustang). You do have my dream car. I would love to build one.
I had a 40 Willys Coupe the wheel base is only 100" the width is 70" thats a a pro street car has all that rubber under the fenders not a good idea if that would have
been a gasser the wheels would have been on the outside of the fenders it probably would have been ok with that much power idiot driver
Thats a shame to see that happen to such a great car, i personaly knew, the guy that built and owned that car, he sold it when he was diagnosed with cancer, and we lost him, the 26th of august 2008
great video to bad about the lost.you had to much air under that car at top end. it must have been really bad out of control like that. glad to see that you are ok.
Beautiful Little Willys, Drag Racing certainly aint Easy! Lots of people think that going in a straight line is Boring? Theres a whole lot of science too it as well !!
Many of the comments show that the writers have no real experience with a light car that has lots of power. A Honda with 200 hp is not a fast car, all due respect. A car half the weight of a Honda with 4 times the power is. When the power "hits" at a certain rpm, the "handling" can be suddenly and unpredictably effected. A broken or bent suspension piece, slightly low tire or getting a few inches out of the "groove" can be devastating.
looks like trans overflow from the tube was pushed out during the shutdown. if it leaks back on the tires it makes for a wild ride. it happened to me at E-Town :(
alot of theories about what happened during the wreck, but the car was so damaged after the accident....who knows...I've been over the car several times...who knows? Maybe should've pulled the shoot to mitigate damages
Good for you & your response. It never ceases to amaze me how some people are so proud of their stupidity. Their are only just so many perfect people in the world and you & I are not among the No2craps of the world. Glad that you were not hurt bad and have a Merry Christmas...
I started racing in 1971. I have driven several 8 & 9 second cars. If you knew anything about these old gassers..They have a mind of their own on the other end. I know the risk of racing a 1941 Willys down the track. I love this car. I may be a dumbass for risking the car, but I fixed better than it was before. What good is a race car if you can't take it down the track. Exper. driver...
Rick's a Dumb Ass. I've seen it time and time again. Inexperence drivers with too much horsepower who think as soon as they pass the finish line let they can let off all the gas and suddenly go into a hydroplane because of the back pressure of the engine. Repeat Ricks a DUMB ASS
letting off the gas on a blown car will help as a braking effect i doubt this caused the crash more like a stuck brake i no this car very well and never done anything like this so before u call people a dumbass no what your talking about
Letting off the gas on any car acts as a braking effect,You can join Ricks ranks. I ll call anyone a Dumb Ass who trashes a car like that because human stupity.
not to run this in the ground but on a blown car will act more of a jake brake effect. I've only been around and worked on this car for 20 years before being sold.wonder how many 9 sec passes of going straight down the track that is on a blown motor letting off the gas at the end . to many tire kickers that no to much. ha - maybe Rick could reply and tell us what happened. were all human

I was there when that happend, but I didn't get the accident on tape I thought everything was fine and then I looked again I saw smoke and stuff.
