i cant believe this movie was not a box office smash, oh well two things happen, will smith call his daughter "willow" and harry potter was straight from this movie. so this movie is 100% cult
J.K. Rowlings, James Cameron, Peter Jackson and others are fans of this movie. This movie did influenced Harry Potter and many modern fantasy movies especially Avatar which Cameron also borrowed from at times in some scenes like the forest to all the way, some battle scenes, wolf critters, the magical woods with the wood sprite like things etc. This movie was like the LOTR of it's time. Have you seen Thor? very much a throwback to 80's fantasy like this, Excalibur, Conan etc.
@Johnlindsey289 this is great someone who thinks like i do. so if thor was like a 80's fantasy i better go watch it then. but what happan to VAl Kilmer after he made the movie doors his movie career just flat lined, i wounder if he took to much acid to get in character for the movie doors, i though he would grow as an actor but now he is in his twightlight. but lets see what happans to the baby in Willow the baby would be about 20 by now do you no its name.
Probably did. Since James Cameron did borrowed from this as he did stated long ago that he did enjoyed Willow and was convinced by the technology to do The Abyss, he is a fan of Sci-fi/fantasy movies and novels and i'm sure this is one of his inspirations to his new movie with the stuff i said. He combined Dances with Wolves, Willow, Star Wars, Dune, Heavy Metal, Fantastic Planet, Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa, Castle in The Sky and Atlantis in one movie, isn't that right?
@Tonystarkes888 the baby was played by twins and they would be 25 or a little older by now. i do have to disagree with you on the val kilmer point though. he was fantastic in tombstone and that came out in i think 94, also batman forever, the movie kinda sucked but his performance was good
@acheron228 i had high hopes for Val Kilmer, i think he lost his mind playing JIm in the movie "The Doors" because to get into character he would have had to take alot of Acid, not to say that he was not a good actor i thought he was going to be the chosing wrong, how wrong i was.... Harry potter just rehashed willow changed a few aspects and is now a billion dollar industry, same gos to world of warcraft it is a copy of Willow, and Will Smith named his daughter Willow. this movie.
@Tonystarkes888 Despite a few exceptions fantasy films were a tough sell in the '80s. I loved all of them but movies like Willow, Dragonslayer, Krull just wasnt what audiences wanted back then. Had it been released today it would of been a huge hit.
I think movies like Crocodile Dundee II and Rambo III took away alot of its business at the box office but it did really well on video and internationally.
@VisionofOrion for me the music surpassed the movie in this one, but some elements of this movie have been used in lord of the rings and harry potter just looking into it. Val kilmer is the actor that nearly got there but i think with the movie doors he may have taking to much acid to get into character and that kinda changed his acting in further movies after that. the movies that came out in the 1980s have placed such a epic mark on the movie industry..
Thanks for sharing!!
I remember when i was a little guy! :-)
