It doesn't matter how well the Smart resists structural deformation. It decelerates so quickly against the Merc that the internal organs of the occupants would be scrambled egg, no matter how good the car looks afterwards.
The smart is safer compared to other similiar_sized_cars but it't no match against a s-class. It matters less how the smar's tridio cell fared, but how well the driver and passenger are protected during a collision. There's little protection for your legs in a smart due to its diminutive crumple zone.
It seems like the entire smart car took the hit whereas for the s-class only the front section of the car was damaged and the person inside should suffer minor injuries. And you do not want your car to bounced and roll when you get hit so as it doens't make you susceptible to colliding with other cars.
its amazing that people can watch something and not know what they are seeing. the smart suffers far less structural damage than te S class. wear your seat belt and you're walking away from that accident in the smart, it doesnt even pop the widshield out of place.
