Arthur Prysock's voice is so distinct and deeply powerful that when he sings a sweet love ballad it becomes completely new and different from the original, listen to Let It Be Me, by him, and it becomes a totally unexpected experience . he does this to many songs that he captures with that deep, characteristic voice, like no one else can. His is a manly voice in a sea of wimpy squeeks, yeah!!!
5/21/10 IT IS TOO BAD THAT THERE DID NOT EXIST, "CLONING" OF HUMANS BECAUSE IT COULD HAVE FOREVER CAPTURED THE BEAUTIFUL VOICES OF ARTHUR PRYSOCK, BILLY ECKSTEIN, AND ALL THE OTHER WONDERFUL INTERPRETERS OF THESE GREAT LYRICS. thanks at least for records, cd's, etc. to make up for this loss. roselli
I would travel from Brooklyn to Harlem to find his records. He was and still is my favorite singer. I still take his music on long car trips. Thanks for posting this.
My grandmother had most of Mr. Prysock's albums and I listened to them at 10 years old. I loved his rendition of My Funny Valentine. This man was a great original masterpiece of a singer!
When I was Young, I Thought I did a pretty good ARTHUR PRYSOCK, rendition, imitation! I use to sing, CLOSE YOUR EYES" "LET ME WHISPER SWEET WORDS IN YOUR EAR" CLOSE YOUR EYES, THIS IS DIVINE!
And I did JERRY BUTLER & BROOK BENTON very well! But as I listen to Him Now, I can't Imagine ME or anyone else,
What a soothing voice. My blood pressure is dropping. Is it me or does this song have a calming effect on others? I will look for more from Arthur Prysock.
My Late Grandmother was a Huge fan of Mr. Prysock. If she can read this, just know that.."I miss you, I love you, and I hope you heard the song I played for you." Safe Journey -Kevin
Yes, your grandfather is greatly missed -- I never missed seeing him when he was in Detroit or Chicago. I was there when he was honored byThe Rhythm & Blues Foundation, March 2, 1995. Your granddad was not too well at the time, gut it was still a great honor to see him again.
My favorite was "I Worry About You" -- I was too happy to discover it on youtube.
The saxophone in the back, the horns and the violins, the piano ... no music is made this way today it seems—very special it is. Will we ever have this music again?
I am 48 years old and was introduced to Arthur Prysock's music when I was 6, by my mom who was a huge fan. And since then, I've been a big fan too. What a voice! Passing on musical legacies like this is one of the best things a parent can do. :)
Yeah, MAN! I'm 65 now, and was introduced to The Great One at age 22. I've been hooked since. My favorite is his "Who Will Take My Place?" on the "Art and Soul" LP. I have on LP or CD practically everything he ever did. Mosaic keeps saying they're going to put out a multi-CD Prysock reissue, and I've been prodding them periodically with no success. We Prysock lovers have to get after them!

No, Never again!
And if you missed it you missed it.
But it is here forever in recorded form. Thanks to technology our kids and grandkids will get an idea of what real music once sounded like.
Real music died for good sometime around 2001.
angusthethird 3 years ago
Real music died alot longer then that. I'd say New Years 1980. The good news is that it gave birth before it died and the child's name is; NEOSOUL

I think I have most of his recordings, one of my favorites.
First song I heard him sing was "I don't stand a ghost of a chance" -- I was hooked.
