I believe the bible indicates we are asleep/dead until Jesus returns for us. However, I do not feel this belief is pertinent to salvation nor to living for Jesus. Certainly not worth an argument. Whether we go right to heaven upon our death or we sleep in the grave until Jesus returns, it will all seem instantaneous to us.
@750blood mm no I mean where are you getting your info that when a person dies they are "lighter" and that's evidence for the spirit? Couldn't it be fluid loss amongst other things ?

It's the breadth of life that was God given. The energy that makes us a living being/soul.
