  • Paramahansa yogananda, teaches meditation and is qualified. LOL> Autobioghraphy of a Yogi.

  • your videos are great! this one really inspired me. keep it up

  • You make the best tutorials. Secrets to writing better.. mastering gear (rather than adding more gear)!! GREAT!! thank you

  • This post is really helpful for my own decisions. Thanx :)

...but by the way, i have 200 music-ideas and not enough possebilities! :(

  • youre an inspiration dude , keep it up!

  • This is very good, thanks for the advice , how can i send you my music?

  • words of wisdom.

  • Such a great help man! You wouldn't believe how much this has changed the way I view things. Keep it up!

  • I really love this way of doing videos. Because sometimes most of the problems are somewhere where you would not think they are. Keep on doing this. Thanks

  • Was weird for me watching this video, I do all the various focus techniques (except meditation :) you mentioned without even realising I did them lol. Now that you have got me thinking about this topic, I would put my natural focusing ability down to reading books in a quiet place since childhood. So I would recommended adding reading to your focusing list :)

  • Really nice vid! Makes sense, will try ;)

  • Truly inspiring. Thanks Vespers, I'll consider all of this.

  • Great advise, I have a computer designated to music which I find helps with both my focus and the speed of my computer. Thanks for all the awesome lessons!

  • everyone should watch this. it applies to life and is something I have always been conscious of but not able to explain to someone. thanks vespers

  • Thanks for this, i always get so out focused on my homework, so i always end up making it in the last minute, i don't really produce music that much, but this can be used for everything in life.

  • Thanks for sharing this wonderful message. So true about everything you've said. I'll tell you, when I was younger doctors tried to make me take drugs and it was a miserable experience. Over the years I found out about fluoride and how much of it we ingest daily. Since cutting it out of as much as I can, I've noticed a drastic change in my levels of focus.

  • Seriously... Thank you!

  • did you say sh*t on the vid? ^ ^) man i get what your saying it affects all of us...and you truly have to understand the consequences or else you are going to loose a lot of time...meaning that whatever you are doing on that interval or time is just whipped so good think to remember...but dude buy some cable cause u are missing some good sh*t out of the tv seriously ;]

  • Something I've thought about as well. I've had to train myself to turn this overload into a strength. There are ways to multitask conveniently. Some side things are best handled right away, some are best put off until finished with your present task. A lot of times it's best to quickly knock out the smaller things first, and tackle the big thing last. A VERY useful tool is to learn to transition between things quickly. Challenge yourself and see how well you can adapt to multiple targets.

  • Genuinely interesting stuff, cheers Vespers!

  • Great vid, great ideas which I can relate to. However as a 17 year old, video games and high intensity action films can be a source of energy for me. So my question is, does following these methods create a lack of overall energy? Would the songs produced become less big and dynamic but rather smooth and laid back?

  • lmao dude you are funny as shit.

  • Great vid Vespers! Make more and more please!!!

  • dude i really needed to hear this. thank you so much! i have been struggling with this problem for years. Do you have any suggestions for books on focus?

  • very good video!i actually have thought about that... im still learning and my process is still beeing discovered! but to get better its important to sometimes focus outside the music ''circle'' its like when i think studying body language is good for a dj... even though it has nothing to do with music... its still god for a dj!

  • @MrRidisc my mom used to study and work with that stuff... ('love & light' reminded me to tell you to check out eft, in case you havent heart of it,it means emotional freedom technic! it was the last thing she discoverd i thing before she passed, unfortenatly, but from what i remember her telling me it's a very recent thing wich is redicusly powerfull... if you are reallty into meditation and any of that ''stuff'' you must check it out!! (sorry i cant tell you more about it)) thanks again!

  • @MrRidisc oh and one last thing... even thoug i fully agree vith the video i have to point out that unless you make aliving with music, withouth worries, its very hard to stay focused for hours without interruption, por example, i have my dad constantly asking me for stuff, just stupid shit like going out to get bread or whatever but at the end of the day costs time and i dont even want to think about the ppl that dont make a living with music and allways have to think about the rent and bills!

  • Very, very insightful. Thanks for doing this!

  • soooo freaking true

  • I didn't realise how much I actually am distracted by things, but halfway through watching this video i noticed my hand go on the mouse and scrolling the related video's without me even wanting to do that.

    Great video

  • I turn my router off sometimes now, and it really helps along with moving phones or homework. My family hate me when I do it but it's worth it! I also have found having a clean desk (or wherever you produce) helps a lot. Really enjoyed that video, thanks

  • @C4pitalise Awesome tips. I find the same thing. Having an organized physical space = an organized mental space for me too.

  • love the Jedi hypnosis at 6:00 :DD

  • @909drummachine These are not the droids you're looking for.

  • sage advice. i suppose this goes hand-in-hand with internet browsing, but another fine distraction is spawned from countless holiday music production software sales. relax, don't do it! too easy to become detracted by the latest and greatest shiny new virtual instrument instead of focusing with designing sounds using a piece of software readily available in one's library. take a couple days and dedicate them soley to becoming reacquainted with 1 of your "older" yet capable tools. ignore the ads!

  • @djemptyx Absolutely. I actually did a video on that a while back called Plugin ADD. Talks about always getting the newest synths, filters and such, and never really getting to know the ones you already own inside and out.

  • Beautiful video!

  • @intubatto Glad you like it. Merry Christmas!

  • @DJVespers Wow! I have never heard truer words...it's like you know me. I definitely need some change happening for my life to be more focused and for producing more focused music. Thanks for the heads up!

  • @epicrichey Hey hey. We're all products of our modern environment and the technology that pervades it. The effects are predictable. I'm no mind reader ;) I've just experienced the same things myself. All the best!

  • Facebook, twitter, SoundCloud... And... Uh... Like 10 porn sites LMAO

  • @8VALV3 That's :P

  • I don't remember how I ran across your channel, but I've watched a good amount of your videos over the past few days and I have to say you have alot of information to offer and it has guided my mind. They've also made me realize things I've been realizing on my own or things that I need to change to produce better music or concentrate better. Alot of good new information and alot of good reminders to show me where I can be going wrong or right. thanks keep up your good work.

  • @mrwu1991 Great to hear. I hope your benefit from lots of musical inspiration and productive focus in the studio. All the best!

  • Much respect. I too feel like I have ADD, though never diagnosed (hate doctors), and have a hard time JUST making music without getting distracted.

Would love more videos like this with tips on staying focusing in the studio. Especially love how you added "love & light" at the end, that to me is a sign of a truly conscious person as well as one of my favorite quotes.

Spread the love. Keep doing what you're doing. It's appreciated. Love & Light :)

  • @TheSupaninja420 Hey hey. Yeah, the ability to focus is a muscle. Most of our ability to mentally focus, intensely, has simply experienced atrophy from lack of use and sensory overstimulation. I certainly will continue making vids like this and would welcome your support in helping to spread the message. Thanks for the words of encouragement. Love and light! ;)

  • I . will . watch . all .. your . youtube . tutorials.

    wait, what?

  • @ownageDan These are not the droids you're looking for...

  • sound advice. i too watch close to zero T.V or News. Both are such a waste of time. Generally I leave my T.V off during sessions but i agree the internet has to come off.

I too enjoy watching Docs. Netflix has tons of great ones. I find myself needing to learn more everyday by watching tutorials, masterclasses, blogs, videos, articles -- sometimes exploring artists whom inspire me. I dig for music as well which is important to me and my desire to listen to something new everyday. Cheers.

  • @rharold Awesome. Yeah, internet usage has it's time and place for sure. I love using this amazing tool to learn, share and discover new artists and musicians. Just not while I'm creating my own works of art ;) All the best!

  • Great video! Will use this to my advantage, keep on delivering great content :)

  • @NikRsVid Will do! Cheers.

  • Hey Vespers! Another great inspirational video thanks a lot :0)

  • @damostirling You're very welcome.

  • you rock man thanx alot

  • @bodomchild541 Cheers!

  • Great tips Vespers! I also recommend the use of a grounding mat when interfacing with any technology that outputs high levels of EMR (electric magnetic radiation) Check here for more info: earthinginstitute (dot) net

I've been using one for the past 6 months, and for some one who interfaces with tech so much, I've noticed a huge difference. Stay Grounded!!

  • @desunos Awesome tip. I'll check this out for sure. Cheers!

  • Amazing video! Good stuff here!

  • Thank you so much! I have been having this very problem. I have been turning off my network. I'm going to have to do the same thing with my phone. Thanks so much!

  • @WodensRaven Good call! Let us know how this impacts your music.

  • Great vid! I have ADD and this is so true... right now I am just distracted from schoolwork for example :'). I do have problems with focus when trying to create a track or something.

One thing to add to this is the use of caffeïne, I lowered my caffeïne use with astounding results so far. Anyways, tnx for the vid, gets me to continue with what I was doing a few minutes ago instead of surfing Youtube...

  • @guidstah Ah, caffeine. That's the next step for me. I do love a good matcha latte. Curious about how less caffeine will affect my studio focus.

  • Wow This is so true.

  • Thanks for this! Very important! And good luck with your album! ;)))

  • @victores13 Many thanks!

  • So true vespers. I have massive results when I employ what you're talking about here. Very cool.

  • @zanderrob Awesome to hear! Big ups for taking this on.

  • Yeah, I work better at my grandma's place. No Internet there.

  • @MrFauxCredible No doubt! Not even dial up hey? Gotta love grandmas for that.

  • @DJVespers

Well, there is dial up, but my laptop doesn't support that. And it's a low cell signal zone as well. :D

  • @MrFauxCredible Sweet. Less distractions!

  • i agree with every word you've said! you're a big man!

  • @reloopx Boom! Glad you're diggin it.

  • trying to pay attention to this video, but ADD got the better of me

  • I am stoked on you Vespers! It's a Vespers marathon over here right now! This video was great and right on the money... You are leaningz me!

    Stickybuds~

  • @Gorflaxsack Hey bro. Great to hear from ya on the channel. Thanks for stoppin by and watchin the vids.

  • I find that the Pomodoro method helps me a lot.

  • @bizcad Awesome tip. Checked it out. There's a free app for OSX called Vitamin R that does something similar on your computer. I haven't used it yet, but I'm stoked to try it out.

  • this is one of the best advice videos i evar seen on youtube :)

  • @MarcioYTchannel Thank you.

  • I love how you mentioned the entire soundcloud, facebook, and having multiple tabs open. How true that is for probably everyone. It's going to be so hard to keep my internet browser closed while making music. Excellent tips though, exactly what I needed to hear to get more done in the studio!

  • @Seficus Yeah, test it out and see if you get better results.

  • LOL i watched this video after i decided to surf around the internet because i got fed up with not moving foward on a track i was making.

    i have add D:

  • @HorayTwisties Don't we all!

  • Really liked this video, I have a really nice crew of friends and we have all been doing a lot to educating ourselves to both live better lives and to try and to move away from materialistic crap. Its great to see this side of you Vespers

  • @shambles698 Respect to you for doing that work and moving people away from materialism! Glad to have you on the channel. Good vibes your way.

  • Hey brother, please send me a msg I would like to talk about classes please!

  • @AZTEKPREDATOR Done!

  • sooo spot on with the ADD bit.. Kids these days don't stand a freaking chance! They're so used to colors and sounds flying past their faces at 1000mph that they can't function unless they're completely distracted with stimulation.

I honestly think that as I kid I had the opposite of ADD.. I couldn't stand kids that can't sit still and shut the hell up.. I guess I was a pretty laid back kid but I still could get crazy and I blame it on all this over saturated media..

  • @drkmttrbeats You're totally on the right track with oversaturated media. That's one of the main causes.

  • Either way, it was a very enlightening speech of yours, so thank you! :) Or do you think I have another issue, which isn't related to what you were telling about? (Sorry for such a long comment)

  • But it becomes so much easier when you get away from all that, go to the city or nature to calm down, quite the addiction (or whatever) and just relax and have a clear, productive mind. That's why I liked your idea of renting isolated beautiful and inspiring (I guess) house near a lake. Although I think it's better for more melancholical music and calm stuff, and not your type of music (harder and more active).

  • @maxpanchoo Yeah, getting out in nature is huge. So is tai chi (by it's very nature it's slow!) and yoga. Being in an inspiring place has been great to my music for sure. Highly recommended.

  • So in my case it shows in my addiction to just clicking something on the damn computer not really doing ANYTHING productive, I am so addicted to it, starting to hate the thing and willing to throw it outta the window. And that's why it's harder to read books for me now (I guess), not enough stimulation of what computer (and Internet) provides me with.

  • @maxpanchoo Yeah, I feel ya on that one. I sometimes have a hard time reading books too. They seem boring compared to the internet. I'm in the process of un-training my mind's addiction to the fast paced stuff.

  • Awesome, man! Great video for every single contemporary person. Such a burning issue for most of us. Was very interesting to listen about the over-stimulation and all that. I hate action movies (like I couldn't concentrate on that damn Transformers 2, so didn't really caught much of the plot), but that's likely because I am a slow-minded person, not because I am not over-stimulated...

  • Thank you. I am not a musician but find this video to be poignant to everyone regardless of what they are trying to focus on. I totally agree with your view of ADD and thought the MSG analogy was awesome. Great advice, I'm going to check out the Power of Focus book. Love the ninja entrance as well!

  • @AustinAngjh Awesome comment. Hope you enjoy the Power of Focus. If you don't mind me asking, how did you come across this video if you're not a musician? Always curious how people find my channel. Cheers!

  • @DJVespers My husband posted it on his Facebook page. I, in turn, shared it on mine. :)

  • @AustinAngjh Oh, sweet. Thanks for the support!

  • WATCH MY YOUTUBE TUTORIALS. WATCH MY YOUTUBE TUTORIALS. *hand wave*

    Lol

    ___

Btw, who is the author of your breath exersises?

  • @Demon1aq :P The guys name is Dr. Keith Jeffery from 4 minute fitness and Tai Chi for Busy People. If you Google him, you'll find some vids. I think he even has some Youtube stuff. Cheers!

  • Everyone has ADD?? "Like it's a disorder or a disease or something like that"??

    Wow man.

I love your videos, but stick to preaching about stuff you actually know about.

  • @sackmm2 What I mean by that is that everyone I meet, students, other producers etc. has some degree of trouble staying focused in the studio. That's more or less what ADD is. I'm no psychologist for sure, but in my position as a teacher I see the same issues over and over again that hold people back with completing tunes. I offer this no to preach, but to bring some gentle awareness to what is at the cause and how to handle it.

  • Awesome Vid!...I wanna learn more about the breathing meditation. Where can i get some good info on how to practice that?

  • @pshottz Thanks mate! Yeah, just Google Dr. Keith Jeffery and Tai Chi for Busy People. It's rad.

  • nice entrance ;)

  • @4Dean3 I've been working on my levitation skillz ;)

  • Thanks a lot for this video. For me, this relates, but it's also this fear of 'creating' or opening up FL, i can watch this youtube video for example, and i can concentrate insanely, or if i have music with repetitive gameplay for hours, i can do that...but most of the time with music, i get an idea, and close it after 20 mins or so lol...

  • @DJPaggos and the funny thing is, i used to be able to work 9 hours at a time, now i cannot

  • @DJPaggos Why do you think that is?

  • @DJVespers I honestly have no idea. Really.

  • @DJPaggos Well maybe it's the fact that my toughts literally race now and my ideas are so broad and varied that i have a hard time coming up with one. My material is way more complex, and it takes more to achieve what i need. It's a mess doing modulation with the mouse, and maybe i just need to do something with my workflow...which ive tried, nothing has worked...hm

  • @DJPaggos OH and another thing, it seems like i can focus a lot when im super tired...

  • @DJPaggos I've heard that our mind is the most creative in the first 30 minutes after we wake and the last 30 minutes before we go to sleep. Perhaps that's why? Do you drink a lot of caffeine during the day? I get pretty skattered if I'm all jacked up on caffeine.

  • @DJVespers Yeah, and i get plenty of sleep, i drink caffeine because it keeps me energized....but maybe i should stop.

  • @DJPaggos Ah, gotcha. It doesn't need to be all or nothing, but perhaps try a "caffeine free" day and see if you like it better. Look at your results at the end of the day. Did you accomplish more in the studio? I have some days where I allow myself caffeine and other days where I don't have it. I find they're useful for different things.

  • @DJVespers Ah yeah, mainly though i just have an issue opening my DAW, sometimes it flows for 20 mins, then nothing...hm

  • @DJPaggos Have you ever tried meditating?
