Soldiers who are warriors deserve glory. We fight for good, the innocent, the downtrodden and the dismayed. We have fulfilled this duty for millenia - from the shores of Troy to the shores of the Tigris, and Elysia awaits us - those who give life for country, community before self, family before individual.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki were terrible attacks on many innocent children following Pearl Harbor. We should've targeted the military post, not the innocent civilians. If America is a democracy why don't people have a vote on war instead of having fools without kids who are future war casualties make the decisions? If you believe these countries just hate us because they love to hate, you are kidding yourselves. We have done these people wrong as well.
I couldnt agree more. Then, what really freaks me out about hiroshima and nagasaki is that hiroshima would have done the job, it set into motion what led to the total capitulation of Japan. If the USA would have waited 2 more days, they would have gotten the same result without nagasaki.
But it was two totally different bomb designs: u-235 shotgun design and plutonium implosion design. Thats what really freaks me out about this issue.

Henry Kissinger is really one of the worst people alive. And he never showed any regret and never got into trouble for it.

I feel the way you have depicted some people is unfair. Politics is so corrupt that a good person has to tow the party line to stay in. If good people can't hang in there, what hope do we have of cleanining it up? Do not generalise: Dangerous
"Politics is so corrupt that a good person has to tow the party line to stay in." i have to disagree. but i dont have rational reasons to disagree. i disagree, because if you were right, the USA would have no future, and its end would be terrible for its people. if you are right, then the USA wil lhit the brick wall at full speed and then just implode, and turn into a third world country. you have to change your ways of doing things BEFORE that, so i hope you are wrong.
@kurtilein3 , With respect, your view is a little simplistic and idealistic. I have first hand experience of how disgusting politics is. Unless you are actually talking about civil war/coupe, then there is no other way then to infiltrate with good people, this takes time and Towing the Party line is a necessity as distastefull as it is. I get very tired of seeing all people lumped in one basket.
ar you talking about obama? by now, it is clear that he only pretended to be a good person in order to get elected, and is showing his true face now. more war than under bush, he is more charismatic so he is able to sell more war to you than bush could. thats what obama is all about, he is a better salesperson than bush, but he is not selling something different. he promised to stop torture, he didnt. he doesnt even try to do something as symbolic as ending death penalty.
@kurtilein3 , Yes for one. Again I think you are being a little unfair, here is a man who is in great danger for his skin colour, fathers religion and his liberal views.
There are around 500 insane so called patriot groups who are armed that have sprung up since his taking office, these are hardcore Bush supporters and are absolute in their support of war.
@kurtilein3 , "IF" he is so bad (100%) then why has he done so much for healthcare? and why is he so against nuclear armaments?
Do you honestly think he could wear his heart on his sleeve and take on the entire US and its military commanders? (and win), then there is reaching out to the Muslim world and frowning on Israel for its actions recently.
i dont see your healthcare system improving, you dont have a public option, obama did do nothing to weaken the private insurance companies which are the real problem, to the contrary, he strengthened them.
he is not taking on israel, when it comes to israel we see a continuation of bush policies, obama could stop the israel/palestine conflict but consciously decided against it for reasons we may never know. US troops at war in muslim countries have increased.
unless you are willing to do what the corporations want, its not just difficult, its impossible, at least in the united states. if the republicans or the democrats would have a candidate that the corporations dont like, then the other party will win when it comes to campaign contributions, and therefore win the election. obama got more contributions, so he won, and now he is doing exactly what the corporations want. no big surprise. he wont try to change the world i think.
@kurtilein3 , The future is not written, we write it NOW. There is no quick fix for decades of decay and centuries of hate. Bush I (Cia Director) Bush II (oil industry puppet) both fundamentalist christians: oil search in national parks, making war with and alianating the entire muslim world, No surprises there!
The longest of journys always start with a single step!
you dont write history by voting every few years. it takes a continuous effort. you are aware of the fact that corporations have a huge influence. now you need to become aware that this means that if things change, its either public pressure or its the corporations changing their minds. public pressure can not only help to get the government to move, some corporations like google also respond well to public pressure, others can be coerced into behaving by boycotts/divestment.
honestly its difficult to see how the US could change when it comes to politics. so much would be possible if using all the money you spend on the military, or at least some of it, in a different way, but thats never on the table. even when they say they want to freeze all spending, they exclude the military industry. and it keeps growing. i hope it will change, but im not sure how it could, presidents never try to tackle this.
Again it is completely unreasonable to put all individuals in the same basket, that is where all the truoble starts! "The Americans" "Westerners" "Muslims" "white people" "blackpeople" "polititians" "athiests" "criminals" "thiests" "Aborigines" "natives" These generalisations cause the problem not the solution.
@kurtilein3 , What you can and can't see has nothing to do with what is possible if you really want to do something, but YOU REALLY have to want to do it.
Life is extremely complex and we are in a great deal of trouble at the moment.
Sometimes picking the lesser of two evils is a sad reality, but you have to start somewhere.
it wont be enough, because change, if it happens, will not come from the president of the united states. prior to the elections, noam chomsky said the US should vote for obama, but without illusions, and that without public pressure we will probarbly just get a continuation.
he was right. voting obama into office is NOT enough, its a mistake to expect change from that direction. public pressure and grassroots organizing is what it takes, and then obama can / will / must move.
i would even suggest you get home the troops from japan, and i also dont like the fact that you are still storing nuclear weapons in germany, you could get those home as well ;)
right now the civilian population is kind of getting crushed between the taliban and the US troops. your presence isnt making them safer, instead US actions constantly cause civilian casualties. and i dont know who cares less about civilian life, the taliban or the US.
@kurtilein3 , Afghanistan gas had some kind of war for 200 years+- ? !
I watched for over a decade while the very moderate leader of the northern alliance pleaded for help from the west, I love Afghan people and it really broke my heart watching his interviews, Osama killed him just before 911. There are many troops who really do care and do what they can. "Its a warzone"
@kurtilein3 , Leaving Afghanistan is not an option, the warlords must be beaten at all costs, these are extremly violent people. There are people in the military who are their for the wrong reasons, but it is completely unfair to dismiss alll the genuine caring work done by decent soldiers, contractors to return life to normal for the people.
the US is allied with some of the worst warlords, people that do all the bad stuff that the taliban do on horrendous scales. its just that some of them are willing to not tolerate taliban in their territory in order to get US support. in this case, the population suffers, and the US involvement makes progress impossible. you are not returning life to normal, you kill people, you make life difficult or unliveable, stuff gets blown up. so just pull out.
@kurtilein3 , Well seems as you know it all and obviously have first hand experience in Afghanistan and don't just get your news from reporters, then you must be right, so I will tell my Afghan friends that they are wrong, oh and that they should leave Adelaide and go back.
there can be legitimate cases of self defense, ww2 clearly is one. but afghanistan and iraq are different, the US decided to go there and blow stuff up and cause destruction. it was not self defense. i dont see how your comparison could make sense, because these wars just are not equal. i consider these wars to be criminal, and also detrimental for the agressors, the US federal budget and dead US soldiers are only two things to consider here. longer stay = bigger crime.
@kurtilein3 , BS! again! you have not answered the question of the Northern Alliance leader "begging " for asistance! how can it be a crime against muslims if you are defending moderate muslims from hard liners?, well !
How many Afghan people have YOU personally discussed this OPINION with?
Fine to make judgement from the comfort of your chair!
@1BustedMyth BustedMyth, The Northern Alliance are a lot worse than the Taliban, if you want public opinion go search for it, and i did, The women are still oppressed and even more than they were when the Taliban were in, he Northern Alliance are ruthless, they are corrupt, they steal the peoples taxes, they sell opium for profits to put in their pockets, the Leader is a dictator, and he puts in power people from his fmaily or have a link to his family in power, no democracy
@kurtilein3 , At this late stage in the game you are insane if you think we can just walk out of Afghanistan. Personally I would rather see non US troops doing the work as they are better trusted by the people.
The whole Iraq bullshit has really screwed the reputation of US troops in the Islamic World.
@kurtilein3 , I am getting a bit pissed off with your pathetic presumptions as to who I am, where I'm from and what my views are.
I am an Australian of mixed blood, not in the military, not pro war, not a bush or Howard supporter and most important of all NOT living in an idealistic delusion.
@666norton420 oh, if I become rich, I wont be doing much to change the system in the large picture, I may help as many as 100 people with their lives but thats about it.
As far as I see it, the rich will always exist and be in power. The majority of people do not care about riches enough to make it happen or they do not have the ambition. The world actually needs fat cats to make things happen. Not everyone has it in them.
@ooosteve Unfortunately the fat cats are not the biggest problem in the broadest sense. Human nature presents a much larger hurdle. Tribalistic attitudes are still alive and well. People generally don't care much for when tragic things happen to individuals outside their group. They will rationalize terrible actions that they would otherwise condemn if it happened to one of their own.
Go ahead and get rid of the current war mongers. People will just get new ones.
i think education is the only solution. imagine a society in which every adult is well-educated. well, it already exists, some nations have really awesome education, and every child gets it. the united states apparently prefer to privatize education and invest more in wars, which is tragic, but it doesnt need to be that way. human nature = children are born stupid, intelligent people are mortal. solution = education.

there can be legitimate cases of self defense, ww2 clearly is one. but afghanistan and iraq are different, the US decided to go there and blow stuff up and cause destruction. it was not self defense. i dont see how your comparison could make sense, because these wars just are not equal. i consider these wars to be criminal, and also detrimental for the agressors, the US federal budget and dead US soldiers are only two things to consider here. longer stay = bigger crime.

@kurtilein3 , Before you lecture me on what is a crime you should think about this.
"Evil prevales when good people do nothing"
"To be silent is to give consent"
"If you prepare for war you can choose peace, but if you are not prepaired then you have no choice"

@kurtilein3 , WE, DO NOT live in the World YOU wish we did!, (yet!, hopefully)
1BustedMyth 1 year ago
@kurtilein3 , At this late stage in the game you are insane if you think we can just walk out of Afghanistan. Personally I would rather see non US troops doing the work as they are better trusted by the people.
The whole Iraq bullshit has really screwed the reputation of US troops in the Islamic World.

@kurtilein3 , You should take the time to actually look at the complexities, instead of just spouting this one size fits all BS.
Life on this planet IS NOT that simple.
I suppose you would have us completely dispand the entire ADF as well ?

@kurtilein3 , I am getting a bit pissed off with your pathetic presumptions as to who I am, where I'm from and what my views are.
I am an Australian of mixed blood, not in the military, not pro war, not a bush or Howard supporter and most important of all NOT living in an idealistic delusion.

@666norton420 money talks and it rules the world, thats how I know. Only Anarchy can set us free.
ooosteve 1 year ago
@ooosteve i don't think anarchy is the answer.
maybe you should try to become rich and change the system from within....
that's what i'm trying to do.
good luck!

Yes, we should all coerce each other to be good.
NermalsChannel 1 year ago
@666norton420 oh, if I become rich, I wont be doing much to change the system in the large picture, I may help as many as 100 people with their lives but thats about it.
As far as I see it, the rich will always exist and be in power. The majority of people do not care about riches enough to make it happen or they do not have the ambition. The world actually needs fat cats to make things happen. Not everyone has it in them.

anarchy sucks. anarcho-syndicalism rocks.
kurtilein3 1 year ago

@Tritium8
kurtilein3 1 year ago
@Tritium8

No one "Supports our Troops" more than me.
Republicans want soldiers to bleed to death in some desert.
I want soldiers to die in a hospitol surrounded by grandkids.
Republicans want them to stay in the Middle-East.
I want to bring them home.
etc
