The Pilot Whales dont swim into the BAYS , they are driven by 50 /60 Boats and Jetskis ( not exactly traditional ) Indescriminately Slaughtered ( calves and Pregnant Females ) Sometimes VERY CRUELLY , WITH Hooks , Crowbars , Clubs , sometimes dragged ashore with ropes attached to Hooks or Barbed GAFFS , BEFORE BEING SLAUGHTERED ON THE BEACH by SLICING and SLASHING THEM , some of the lucky animals are put out of thier Misery in a COUPLE of minutes OTHERS up to 10 mins some a bit more.

behind the spectacle of the pilot whale killing is a method that has developed over centuries onclose watch of experts whose task it is to oversee the technology yet considerable skill and organisation needed to kill agroup of whales as quickly as possible. The killing method is no more brutal than killing in most abattoirs in the world but the fact that it takes place underopen air where everybody can see it,and in water where theblood of course colours the sea, makes it seem much more dramatic
“Grindadráp” is not a hunt as such, but a “dráp” meaning a kill – i.e. the Faroese do not regularly take to sea just to hunt for pilot whales, but only kill those which are sighted swimming close to land. There is no required whale hunt for the young men on these islands. No rites of passage are connected to the practice. The communal processing is open to anyone on the island who wants to participate regardless of age or gender.

Entire schools of whales are killed on the shore and in the shallows of bays with knives which are used to sever the major blood supply to the brain. This is the most efficient and humane means of killing these animals under the circumstances
@shallweskate pilotwhales are not a threatened specie. We stopped hunting the big whales, the way japan does, because there were too few. we only hunt pilotwhales. we have some other whale stations, but they've been closed for at least 50 years now.
and the hook isn't a pointy hook, it has a round end. the men put the hook in the thing that they blow air through, and pull them with it. it doesnt hurt them.

The Pilot Whales dont swim into the BAYS , they are driven by 50 /60 Boats and Jetskis ( not exactly traditional ) Indescriminately Slaughtered ( calves and Pregnant Females ) Sometimes VERY CRUELLY , WITH Hooks , Crowbars , Clubs , sometimes dragged ashore with ropes attached to Hooks or Barbed GAFFS , BEFORE BEING SLAUGHTERED ON THE BEACH by SLICING and SLASHING THEM , some of the lucky animals are put out of thier Misery in a COUPLE of minutes OTHERS up to 10 mins some a bit more.

Third video down you will see a fishing type boat ( it is taking up the whole picture ) approx 1min 10 secs into the Video there is a guy in the water at the back of the boat repeatedly whacking the whale with " what looks to be a crowbar" . I know where that is taken. It was pretty ugly slaugther. What the man use in a sharp iron hook. It is illegal to use them. I know that it is a problem, when the men use the old ironhooks. I think it is pretty ugly. Many faroese are angry about that slaugther in Klaksvík. If you think that every slaugther is like that, then you are wrong.

I can promis you, we try to do everything to prevent ugly killings. We allways do. Many think that Klaksvík should not be allowed as a " bay" to kill whales.

behind the spectacle of the pilot whale killing is a method that has developed over centuries onclose watch of experts whose task it is to oversee the technology yet considerable skill and organisation needed to kill agroup of whales as quickly as possible. The killing method is no more brutal than killing in most abattoirs in the world but the fact that it takes place underopen air where everybody can see it,and in water where theblood of course colours the sea, makes it seem much more dramatic

“Grindadráp” is not a hunt as such, but a “dráp” meaning a kill – i.e. the Faroese do not regularly take to sea just to hunt for pilot whales, but only kill those which are sighted swimming close to land. There is no required whale hunt for the young men on these islands. No rites of passage are connected to the practice. The communal processing is open to anyone on the island who wants to participate regardless of age or gender.

(about 30x30 cm) how about allowing them to live free, feed them normal food, and then kill them for food, in a painless way? stop thinking about the money! we do it with as little pain as possible, for food!

Entire schools of whales are killed on the shore and in the shallows of bays with knives which are used to sever the major blood supply to the brain. This is the most efficient and humane means of killing these animals under the circumstances

@shallweskate pilotwhales are not a threatened specie. We stopped hunting the big whales, the way japan does, because there were too few. we only hunt pilotwhales. we have some other whale stations, but they've been closed for at least 50 years now.
and the hook isn't a pointy hook, it has a round end. the men put the hook in the thing that they blow air through, and pull them with it. it doesnt hurt them.
although, we used to use a spear. but thats illegal now, cause its painful for the whale

@shallweskate the only good argument for why NOT to eat whale, is that its healththreathening. and thats not faroe islands fault, its everyones fault. like someone said: i rarely eat pilotwhales, but if i feel the craving for mercury, ill emty a termometer.
And, I have to also add, that I live in the Faroe Islands, and I've had pilotwhale maybe 8 times in my life (not 8 whales, 8 meals. thats maybe 2½ whales, cause we're a family of only 3). I've hadn't had pilotwhale since I was about 12
