  • It would simply be indescribeable for all of our long running shows to be rebroadcast from about 1970 forward, where not only would they not look old fashioned, but it was this time that daytime really found its stride with all the shows -- writing, stories, characters, sets, costumes, themes, background music. I'm constantly amazed at how much BRILLIANT programming was availalbe then and I probably missed 95% of it or more.

  • Thanks so much for the info!! Oh no!! Victor is ALIVE???I hate it when soaps do that!!! Certain characters hould be left DEAD!! LOL!!

  • I dont' remember since it was so long ago, what ever happened to Tony? I remember he was viki's brother who was her dad's love child (one of a few I think!)

    I LOVED JOE!!

  • I was not born until 1980 I wish I could see clips of OLTL when Victor found out about Dorians true nature and Dorians schemes back in the 70's

  • This is when Joey was born? and was that Clint?

  • @TrixieBelaire

No, this is when Kevin was born - and that's Viki's 1st (and 3rd) husband Joe Riley, after whom Joey was named when he was born in 1979 or 1980... can't remember which.

  • @GenXorcist1976 Thanks. I didn't watch it back then and wondered if that was another Clint.

  • @TrixieBelaire

No problem! I only know because my family was watching at this time... ONE LIFE is still the family favorite. This episode is actually from several days after I was born. My first real OLTL memories are from the Karen and Marco on the run days... they were in some jungle somewhere. LOVE this show!!

  • Awww Erika was so young :) Jacquie was such a beauty...as the others said...70's where the best fot OLTL and RIP Jacquie!.

  • Rest in Peace Jacqueline Courtney.

  • I love what the old Dorian character was. I tough bird who was a DR. a fierce defender of her mentally ill sister...Robin Strasser turned her into a caricature.

  • OK--youngins--let's talk about incredible crossovers. Pat's son Brian was killed by Karen Wolef (Judith Light) when she was with a john (Talbot Huddleston). So when we FINALLY got to the trial, 2 yrs later, ALL of this paid off SO freakin big! What incredible storytelling!!

  • @SoapsGoldenAge Karen Wolek did not kill brian kendall Talbot did

  • They will always be Alice and Steve to me

  • Tony Lord is just so dreamy! He needs to come back and dismantle Todd as true Lord heir(yes Tony died, but we all know dead is NEVER dead on soaps)

  • Nancy Pinkerton appeared after this as Dr. Vivica Strand on THE DOCTORS and then was on AS THE WORLD TURNS where she was Whit McColl's housekeeper...and his murderer.

  • loved Jacquie Courtney & George reinholt! i miss them!

  • I would LOVE to see more of OLTL from the 70's....I always wanted to see some of Nancy Pinkerton's Dorian, particularly when she was involved in a torrid affair with Dr. Mark Toland, played by a young Tommy Lee Jones

  • I don't know why Viki never mentions Pat. She's her sister-in-law.

  • @imachildofthe80s8089

The last time that Pat was mentioned was '87.

  • @bluenail03 Was it for the Heaven storyline?

  • @80sOLTL Yes. In Heaven Tony (#02 & #04 version) mentioned that he missed Pat.

  • @bluenail03 Ah. Thanks! And they used two different versions of Tony for the Heaven storyline?

  • @80sOLTL No. There have been three Tony's, but No. #02 returned in the Heaven storyline, thus making him #02 & #04.

  • @bluenail03 Oh okay! Thanks!

  • Actually, Bluenail03, there were four different actors who played the role of Tony. George Reinholt, followed by an actor named Jimmy "Something" (LOL), who was quickly replaced by Phil McHale, who was followed by Chip Lucia. For the life of me, how Lucia was cast is a mystery. He was so wrong for the role.

  • oh and Megan too

  • I miss Tony Lord. when I think the Lord clan I think Viki, Meredith, Tony and Tina. Not Todd and his band of brats.

  • I loved the way the dialogue was 5 minutes- the story developed and so did the character. Nowadays the story lines are so shallow and the dialogue is restricted to three or four sentences. ARE YOU LISTENING Ron Carlivati?

  • he's a horses ass.

  • I agree...I love how years ago soap character dialogue and scenes in general were much longer....it allowed the audience to get more invested in the storylines and what made the characters tick

  • @ctronjock I hear what you are sayng completely, but after watching this type of writing now since January 2011 I have grown to love it. It makes the show seem like it's zipping along, and the best part is that when the show is on charcters that don't particularly interest you it doesn't matter, because with the short scenes, the show will move on to others in just a minute or less.

  • lol

  • All these old soaps should and will probably show up on some cable station once the soaps die out on the 3 big stations; can't wait! The viewing audience would be there.

  • yeah you're not alone in that thought coz that's what I've been thinking all along(great minds think alike) and it won't be soapnet running same day eps(what's the fun in that) Because as ratings keep dying down(they've slipped every week pretty much since the summer of '94) it's only gotta get to that mark where Neilsen decides not enough's watching to cancel. And then the stations will make big money rebroadcasting them on a TVLand like station where instead of classic sitcome, soaps instead.

  • Did this actress Jacquie Courtney pass away? Also, was she on another soap, before she started playing on OLTL? I think the other soap was "Another World" and she played a character name Agenes? I thought I heard this a few years ago, about a veteran actress on that show (Another World) passing. Don't know for sure if it was her?

  • She played Alice on AW--left in 1975 and wound up on OLTL not long after that. To my knowledge she is still alive.

  • The veteran actress may have been Beverley Mackinsey i think who played Iris on AW

  • Yeah, I found out for sure, I called my cousin, to clear it up for me, lol!!! She was a big Another World fan. She said it was actress Beverley Mackinsey (not Jacquie Courtney) that passed away, who played the character Iris on Another World in the 70's. She also said that Mackinsey originated the role of Alex

((I thought the name was Agenes) on Guiding Light back in the 80's. I got confused on the actresses, characters, soaps mixed up, lol!! Anyway, thanks!

  • I heard she's still alive. and Agnes nixon was the creator. Courtney played a girl named Alice Matthews Frame.

  • This show was awesome in the 70's

  • OLTL is horrible now that whole serial killer slasher s/l with powell lord was such a let down, and they didn't even bring back the same Rebecca. I thought we were going to be shocked by the reveal of the serial killer that shit was s let down and it was obvious.

  • is dat Tony who turned out to be Viki's half brother???

  • yes that is tony

  • That show was the best in the 70's

  • OMG, this is so classic OLTL!!!

  • LOL. I love how OLTL tried to re-create the chemistry of Steve and Alice with Jaquie and George.

  • Jacqui was a wonderful actress. Also gorgeous

  • always thought Joe Reilly played by Lee Patterson was the best of Vikis husbands. sorry to hear he recently passed away.

  • is this dorian the same character as the current dorian?

  • no this is Nancy Pinkerton 1976

  • I think what she was asking if the character is the same, not the actress

  • Yes it is

  • yes

  • wow that's cool. i wish soapnet played all the old episodes like these. i'm 19 and i don't ever remember not watching oltl @ 2 eastern time. lol can u imagine a sixth grader recording the soaps everyday.

  • it's always been on at 1 central so it was on at 2 eastern time and still is. It's been that way since the early 70's atleast...may have been on 2 easter the whole time it's been on air(1968) but something had to have been on before or after as it didn't go to a full hour til 1978.

  • The ominous music before and after Dorian comes on screen is GREAT! Wouldn't it be interesting to see how Nancy would play the same role today?

  • It would be, and if Robin ever breaks a leg or throws out a back, I hope she can fill in, but not permanantly...

  • what ever happened to nancy Pinkerton? why did they replace her with Claire Malis? Did Pinkerton ever appear on another soap since. Did malis?

  • @imachildofthe80s8089 Pinkerton appeared on The doctors, ATWT, and Guding Light. Unfortunately, Nancy Pinkerton passed away on March 4, 2010 at the age of 69. She died of heart failure.

  • I love Jacquie Courtney. Brian Kendall was Tony's son. Jacquie was a great actress, especially around May 1979 when they went on location to the Atlantic City boardwalk, when Dick Grant was stalking her, and then that December with her twin sister, Maggie, in the dual role, plus her miserable marriage to Adam Brewster. They certainly gave Pat Ashley tons of stories that year.

  • sounds like she went through hell. Sex and suffering in the afternoon...as the old Time Issue about soaps would say.

  • Thank you for posting-do you happen the have the shows that followed where Cathy Craig kidnapped Kevin or Pats sister Maggie locked her in the basement? I miss these characters.

  • so do I! i wish those clips would show up somewhere.

  • Ms. Jacquie was beautiful and mesmerizing!
