Well done video, esp, the history portion. 20 mph boat with open cockpits up til the 80s = completely insane! Saw a number of races on lake Tahoe in the 60s and early 70s. I think Tahoe banned them at some point.

I'm from Detroit, center of this form of racing and home of the Gold Cup. I grew up just a few blocks away from the course. Many of the shots in this video are from the Detroit River where every summer for over 80 years hundreds of thousands have gathered to watch the "boat races" as they're always called in Detroit. This weekend is Gold Cup weekend once again in the Motor City. Love the hydros!!
