This is a rare gem, I'd never seen Stephen in conversation before and I love how animated he is.Thanks. I am just so angry I missed the latest South Bank Show celebrating his work - from last Sunday night. Hopefully someone somewhere will post it
Fantastic to see this. Thanks so much for posting it complete. Sondheim is always articulate and enlightening, but also inspiring to see Hal Prince directing too.
Thank you so much. It was wonderful finally getting to see Sweeney rise from "hell" as I've never found a clip of that from the OBC and they removed it from the recorded tour video due to lack of trapdoors at all theaters so it was nice to finally see it.
Cheers for uploading this. I love the show, and it was wonderful to have these seldom-seen insights into the London production.
I love seeing these old-style TV documentaries, too. The quality and quantity of analysis (eg whole six- or seven-minute snatches of Sondheim at the piano) is something you rarely get these days when everything has to be fast-paced and snappy.
I totally agree, I mean his analysis of things like "the ballad of sweeney todd" and "god that's good" was extremely insightful and i learned a lot, but in modern documentaries you dont get that, for example on the film DVD there is like, an interview with sondheim about the music, but it never gets that in depth and you are left still wanting more...
I couldn't agree more - thank you for uploading this documentary. It has brought back so many memories - not least of all because I saw this production and the same cast several times and the memory of it has stayed with me ever since. Sondheims' score is an absolute masterpiece.

I'm utterly entranced: Stephen Sondheim, Hal Prince, the cast, the interviews, the live performance...
Just thank you. Thank you.

Btw, this was an LWT production, not BBC.
