@TranshumanCyborg Many working - and non-working poor - were anti-capitalist. As many are now. But many were rightists rather than leftists. The nazi party was anti-capitalist - "national socialism" wasn't a meaningless title.
Cuban singer Silvio Rodriguez was suppose to be there with Pete. US did not give him visa. That would have been a magical moment. Silvio finally got it and Pete was at Silvio's concert at Carnagie Hall.
I was at the concert and the acoustics were really much better. Pete was remarkable and I love that Tao's playing with him. Such a legendary American and how blessed are those who have followed him.
A great musician and a great American. Persecuted for his politics, which tells you more about his persecutors... anyone holding concerts for McCarthy?
this concert was truly a brilliant experience. i was so happy to be able to sing with everyone. best crowd. amazing performers. Pete Seeger thank you and see ya in June at Clearwater Festival !
I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one in the audience with tears in my eyes. What an incredible and positive experience to hear everyone in MSG singing together in harmony.
Just because he's a communist (even if he is, I honestly don't know or care) he's entitled to play whatever he likes here. take an overweight person for example.. They know that they are unhealthy and sick, they don't want to leave their body because its theirs and they love it, but they want to make it better. I think that's all peter wanted to do. But I totally don't think that communism is a viable means of government for the US.
We are many in Sweden that are so sorry for not being at Madison Square Garden Sunday and Pete Seegers big event. Here in Sweden we are working hard that Pete will be awarded Polar Music Prize 2009 - the Nobel prize in music. Bruce Springsteen got it in 1999. We will know in a few weeks.
Thanks so much for posting this! I wish I could have been there. Pete and Toshi are old friends of my family and are the most wonderful people you'll ever want to meet. If there was any way possible for me to have been at this celebration, I would have been there. Happy, happy birthday Pete! Thanks for all that you and Toshi do and for the spirit in which you do it. Peace. :o)

@spiritoftruth123 He's long, long dead my friend. Perhaps, "Long live Pete Seeger" would be rather more appropriate?
