  • question, when Im playing with my band my distortions is really killer but its quite loud and when I turn it off my clean is very very quiet would that help with that, or would I be better off trying somethingg else

  • @ThisISHappanin Before I start playing, I set my level on my amp, then make sure the compressor's level is the same volume when it's turned on. I do the same for the distortion. If your distortion is just slightly louder, and not WAY louder than your clean signal, your clean signal will be the right volume when you turn the distotion off. Then, if you still can't hear yourself when the distortion is on, turn your amp up, or the compressor up, and not the distortion. Hope this helps.

  • @vela75 for the most part yes Thank you very much, I just needed to find a way to turn down my distortion without losing the really good sound, and what you said was very helpful as well, Thanks!

  • Seems like AnalogMan makes only pretty sounding pedals.

  • I think I prefer the Keeley to be honest.

To each is own, I suppose.

  • @crazyfreak1919 Have you ever heard the Diamond compressor? Also Demeter is a burly pedal and amp maker.

  • @lameduck83 Yeah, I have listened to the diamond compressor several times. I really like that one. It almost seems like it has less compression at hand though. I could be wrong. That's only from what I have heard on YouTube. I've not checked out the Demeter compressor. I know they make high quality pedals though.

  • I had mxr supercomp.....it gives you more gain then compression....and it produce a lot of noise ....... Crap of pedal....I borrowed a Analogman few days ago from a friend.....omg...such a beutifull sound....perfect compression pedal....It worth every dollar... :D

  • Have you tried this with bass? Sounds like it would make a sweet bass compressor. It definitely has the bandwidth judging from the bottom end you are getting with it, and it really sounds smooth.

  • how would you compare this to the keeley compressor?

  • @vela75: you let that one go? oh man...i recently got a comprossor clone, built by a very good DIY pedal maker, nailed the comprossor's sound and it's a keeper !

  • @joeystratman I l know. I hate that I don't have it anymore. I'd like to check out the Analogman Juicer. Not many videos on YouTube of the Juicer.

I thought about making my own w/ buildyourownclone. I'll have to do that someday.

    Thanks for watching!

  • @joeystratman Where did you get your comprossor clone.. I'm interested in one but don't want to fork out 200+ for a analogman comprossor.

  • @SuperfluousGrizzly I sold the one in the video on Ebay, but have since purchased another on Ebay. I think I payed around $170. (used) for the one I currectly have.

  • now ain't that a very transparent compressor ? err comprossor? lol. me want one but me can't afford one hahaha lol.

  • @joeystratman It is very transparent. I no longer have it....sadly. I'll have to get another one someday. :(

This compressor is outstanding. I think is the best available. I shopped around forever and I know Analogman is the best!

  • Tune that guitar dude!

  • @Chromatype Funny!!! :)

  • great demo.

  • 1) Great demo

    2) Does it help to keep long harmonics when used with distorsion ?

    3) What is the little orange thing on the top right corner ^^ ???

  • what is a compressor pedal??

  • Basically it keeps your volume level at a more constant level, so when you play quietly, the notes will sound out more. When playing with more intensity, the volume will be more controlled. You know how when you are waching a movie, and then a loud part comes on and almost blasts your eardrums? Well, a compressor prevents that. It keeps the volume at a constant level.

Also, one of the greatest things the compressor does is that it adds a great deal of sustain!!! :)

  • You seem to know a good deal about what you are talking about. Nice demo by the way!

Can you explain to me how an attack knob works or what its function is?

    Thanks

  • @MacDrevi0us Thank you.

Attack is how fast the compression kicks in when you play a note. You control the attack to either make the compression kick in very quickly, or more slowly.

  • @andrew19vato Hey man.. Ok, so a compressor takes your guitar signal and sort of squashes it. It puts a cap on the loud sounds and boosts the quiet ones, giving your signal a consistent, punchy kind of sound. You can use the level/gain knob to really boost your whole signal or to limit it. It's really a pretty subtle effect, but it's awesome if you are particular about your sound and want to get the best out of your playing. Boss makes a good compression pedal. Hope this helps.

  • Cornish compressors really nice but so so expensive and hard to get hear in USA

  • Cornish makes awesome pedals, but they are VERY expensive!!! I'd love to have one too!

  • Good demo. I was really unsure whether to get a Analogman or a Keeley. I ended up with a mini Bi-Comp and, as much as I love it, it's the juicer side that really is the surprise that makes me happy about my purchase.

  • Unfortunaetly, I sold my Comprossor a while back ago. But, if I decide to get another compressor, I will probably get the Juicer. The Comprossor is an awesome pedal, but I've always wanted to try the Juicer out.

  • Hey does anyone know which comprossor is better between this 3 knob version and the 4 knob bicomprossor? im trying to make a decision based on those 2 compressors

  • Yes. The one that you see here is the Comprossor. It is a Ross clone and one amzing compressor. The Bicomprossor is two pedal in one. It is the Comprossor and the Juicer (another Analogman compressor) all in one pedal. So if you like both pedals and can't decide, the Bicompressor is the way to go. if you just want a simple kickbutt compressor, then this Comprossor is the way to go.

  • im looking for a 'sweet' sounding compressor, any thouughts? whats this one like in comparison to others on that front? cheers!

  • Well, sounds like you might want a quality compressor that warms up your sound a bit. If that's the case, you may want to stay away from ones that are extremely 'transparent". This compressor is in the "transparent" veign, and has an amazing sound. I never want to turn it off! You might also consider Analogman's "Juicer", Maxon RCP-660 Real Tube Compressor, or the Barber TonePress. They are also all really great compressors.

    Hope this was helpful!

  • Very helpful, and very much appreciated friend! Someone i know mentioned the Analogman, but cant seem to source one in the Uk...thanks for the help and the video, good stuff!

  • You are very welcome! Best of luck finding one in the UK.

    Thanks again!

  • well done !I have a question : do you think this comp is better than a boss, mxr or keeley one?let me know if you can

  • Way, way, way better than the Boss and MXR. Both of those are very noisy and color your sound. The Keeley compressor is an awesome pedal. I would say it is almost as good as the Analogman. They are mass produced though. You can now get Keeley at Musicians Friend.

On a side note, if you are interested in the Analogman Comprossor, I have it up for sale on Ebay right now!!!

    :)

  • This is EXACTLY how a sound test video should be done. Play a riff without the effect for a while to get in your head, then turn the pedal on and play in the same style.

Thanks for using clean tones so you can hear the subtleties too.

    Well done!

  • Thank you. I didn't want to make it boring, but I knew it was most important to get a good comparison of clean versus compressor. So, thanks!!!

    :)

  • I really like your intro sound, could you please tell me what pedals you are using, please. Or are you only using the compressor, and what type of amp?

  • Hello. On this, I was just using the Comprossor and I also had some reverb from the Alesis Nanoverb. I was then going direct into the computer. No amp on this one.

  • Thanks for letting me know, now I gotta save money for one of them.

  • hello, do you run this comp before or after the overdrive? and after the chorus?

    thanks!

  • It looks like he's running it after a HBE power screamer, and before an analogman chorus

  • i was wondering if you knew anything about the nadine's compressor? i have one and i can't find anyone else who does i guess because it's really old school. i'd love to see how others think about how it stacks up with the keeley and analogman.

  • OK, i'm convinced this effect will improve my sound. But, how does this compare to a pedal with compression/sustain...ie. the Boss CS-3?

  • Well, the Boss CS-3 introduces tons of noise and hiss, as does the MXR compressor.

The CS-3's sustaining capabilities are actually inherent in a compressor pedal. All compressors are also sustainers. The name is a little misleading with the Boss.

If you are interested in compressors, you might check out:

    Analogman Comprossor

    Analogman Juicer

    Barber Tone Press

    Keeley Compressor

    Maxon Compressor

  • Thank you! "All compressors are also sustainers." ...not so obvious when you're a noob. (like me, 8D) Good stuff. That's what I was looking for.

    Cheers!!

  • why not just get the byoc 5 knob comprossor?

  • I just received one of these as a gift and this demo is exactly what I needed to see.

    Thanks!

  • as the owner of a CP-9 and a Squeeze i feel compelled to say vela75 that your post is awseome and you've turned my head on compressors... i don't know if you work for 'analogman' ('cause the chorus post is cool too) but you've sold me on the comprossor... RIP Ross search.

  • This has got to be one of my favorite pedals. I play guitar at church every week and this pedal is ALWAYS on!!! It just makes your sound come alive! And no....I don't work for Analogman! :) LOL I just love his pedals.

  • Have you tried the Barber Tone Press? If you have, how does it compare with this pedal?

  • nice demo, this pedal definitely kicks ass.

did you ever checked it out with an acoustic guitar? I am curious, whether it would sound good.

  • Thanks! Yeah, it is definitely one of those "leave on all the time" pedals!

I haven't tried it with an acoustic. I'll have to do that sometime.

  • Sounds great man!

do you know anything about the analogman ts9? i was checking it out and sounds pretty awesome.

  • Thank you!

There's a pretty good description of it on Analogman's website. Also, there's a few reviews of it on Harmony Central. I haven't watched any videos of it or listened to it, but I bet it sounds great. I'll have to check it out.

  • So compressor pedals basically just clean up the output tone of your guitar?

Your clean tones sound great man.

  • Yeah. It keep the volume at more of a constant. The great thing is that it will bring up the quietly played notes and keep volume spikes down at the same time. I also use the compressor as a volume pedal when I play live. I just bring the level up or down with my foot while playing. I should probably get a real volume pedal for that! :)

  • If the signal going into the compressor goes past a set threshold, the compressor reduces the level of the signal at the output by a set ratio. When the input signal falls back below the threshold, the compressor returns the output signal back to its original level (essentially the "compression" turns off). This reduction in gain of signals above the threshold results in the compressor's output signal having a smaller dynamic range. Pretty much every compressor colours the signal in some way.

  • Nice.

  • Thank you!
