You show a lot of potential; better than most on youtube doing this action already. However, I'd offer some criticism because I think it will help you master it. Your starting position is correct, but you go through the motion too fast, and you failed to keep your posture on the recovery motion, most likely because you lack the strength in the legs to complete the action. You are well on your way, keep practicing. Proper completion of this move is difficult, but worth it. Not many have a chance.
this is really dangerous for your knee tendons. just watching that makes my knees wince in pain. you need great flexibility and knee strength to do this safely.
Very good. Please see Horizontal Leg Pistol JuciNeni to find out what I'm looking for. This was similar. But I need a straight leg, ankle extended, toes pointed, lift to 180 degree split overhead, release leg and lower to horizontal, squat with perfect technique form posture and balance. No resting or bouncing at bottom. >Also one with forehead against knee the whole way. Let me know. Thanks.
i can do this on my right foot with success (not saying its easy though i did it 10 times) but if i do it on my left foot i can barely do 1, because my left ankle is bad and i cant push my left knee forward so that it is in front of the foot (my ankle has limited motion). im 21. whats the best thing i can do to improve the range of motion for my ankle?
@seekerseven i'm a guy and i can squat low, way under 90 degrees, with the back of my thigh touching my calves... so what's up with that? it means nothing, just that most people who don't train properly are just inflexible as an 80-year-old.
early last year I commented on this when I was Donivendetta..99% of skinny people could not do this....this is a very hard exercise to learn, and impossible for most..
@slowbus--don't hate....actually, it could be harder considering she may not have as much muscle mass as someone who weighs more--but also, this exercise has to do with balance and flexibility. Doesn't matter how much one weighs, if they are not strong, flexible, and balanced, they could not execute this exercise.
it depends on particular muscles in your leg whether you can do these or not, doesn't have that much to do with your weight.
same like one arm push ups... a body builder doesn't necessarily have to be able to do these, it requires different muscles than for example the ones you're using when you're pushing weights.
@skiingchampion if you can't do this it means you lack either one or more of the following: 1) balance 2) flexibility 3) leg power.
i'm about your weight, i can do it. i've seen people heavier than me do it, vegan or not :P it all comes down to practice. if you can't do one, only do the downward motion. after a while, you will notice that you stop falling down like a rock, instead, you will descend in a controlled manner. if you practice even more you'll be able to get up again.
nice pistol squat. but, a vegan diet is unhealthy. you will become protein and amino acid deficient and you'll take in too many anti-nutrients from grains and legumes. paleo diet is the way to go.
vegan diet is not unhealthy per se.. the paleo diet does out perform most diets tho in terms of getting all your RDA's from dietary sources. alwell as the ratio of protein:fat:carbs and the types and balance of mono, poly and saturated fats...
Oh, no, the knee shouldn't go beyond the toes and generally the buttock should be pushed back. I am afraid doing this, may cause problem for the knee joints which shows itself in the older ages.
its only not good if you dont go all the way down. Knee is the strongest at either full extension or full bend.. in between is how people get injured. ;)
The crack in her knee or ankle maybe just compression of small air sacs between joint. Usually common if you haven't warm-up properly. It dosen't suggest anything harmful or damage to joint provided there is good technique.
aq1q, qhat would i know eh.............loser.......if it takes ages to practise to do it right and there are other options that dont risk injury surely the 1st choice is that of the idiot......i reckon i can squat more than what you can squat, deadlift, and bench out together.
Why does it matter what Bruce Lee could curl? Curling is one of the least functional exercises out there. Her pistol squat is very impressive, but a laoded barbell back squat would do a lot more for strength and conditioning.
It all very well everyone saying she does it amasing. If you watch her knee it travels well beyond her toes - all she is serving to do is grind her knee-caps down. Not long now till the osteoporosis kicks in!
u idiot, thats how it starts... u can't just just one day do perfect 1 legged squats. it takes a bit of practice and training, and she successfully did it.
Knees being in front of your toes doesn't mean you are hurting your knees. I doubt you heard that from a (well done) study on that but from some random internet article or some random guy in the gym that corrected you one time. Knees traveling forward isn't a problem, whether or not your hamstrings tighten up during the squat is. I don't think a bodyweight squat of any kind is going to do a whole lot to an athletic female below 20 years old.
Could be wrong about the bodyweight squat hurting knees, but knee stabilization definitely has to do with hamstring tightness. With the knees that far forward it is more difficult to get a hamstring stretch though.
She has more balance/coordination that I do though.
i dont understand why people are giving you advice, you are one of the best ive ever seen do this, oh and the average 100 pound person could never do this.
The performance is quite impressive, however, controlling the movement and remaining still at the bottom of the movement prior to flying back up would have demonstrated great strength.
Yeah, bodybuilders are good for pushing cars, but when it comes to vertical lifting they're pushing an extra 100kg as you say. I could probably do more pushups than a bb, but I wouldn't want to sumo wrestle them
@xtremixt1 thats because bodybuilders have alot of muscle thats alot of weight, shes skiny as fuck, most bodybuilders could probably pick her up and throw accross a room..
@D4NIBOY that's still no excuse.. most bodybuilders are steroid pumped california style bodybuilders with majority of muscles on their upper body and tooth pick legs.... she is still proportional so you got to give her a break here.... most people can't even do one rep of pistol squats....
@xtremixt1 heh, what do you mean 'even the bodybuilders'? bodybuilders are only good at lifting dumb weights, other than that, they have 0 balance and 0 flexibility.
@xtremixt1 some bodybuilders i met told me bodybuilders are flexible... ummm sounds like they wouldn't be biased... hahah. truth is body builders really aren't in great overall condition and lack flexibility, power, and endurance. they have one thing, strength.
very nice, With do time you can do that with out having to user your arms to get you up. I used to, but have since lost that balance... Have fun with whatever you are trying to improve.
YOu should try and avoid letting go of all the tension at the bottom of the pistol. Don't allow your body to just collapse like that and try and force yourself up, that is just asking for knee trouble.
I have not seen some one do a single leg squat with flexing at the lumbar spine. I think it could be done but the person would have to have a very strong bum.
I also havent seen any videos of people doing handstands without looking at the ground. I heard people should be able to see there toes.
Can't comment on the squat minus the flexing lumbar spine, but if you watch capoeira videos, you'll see people doing handstands all the time without looking at the ground.
Hey brunch43. Check out the book The Naked Warrior by Pavel Tsatsouline. The whole book is dedicated to the one legged squat and the one arm push up.
Basically he talks about progressively acheiving the pistol. So if you can't do a full one now then practice doing them on chairs or books etc.. Get lower and lower until you can do a full one. And remember never to work until muscle faliure. Because you only want to teach your body perfect form.
The strength required is slightly less than it would take to do a regular squat with twice your body weight that deep. In the case of this girl, probably 200-210 lbs.
Where'd you read that? I'd be curious to know since I agree with your other comment but not this one. Flexibility and balance are MUCH more important than strength here. I'd imagine a 1-legged squat is really more like squatting with 20-50 pounds on your back, not double body-weight... I mean you're only lifting an extra leg...
That's really great! Mine suck haha.

By the way, nice squat! Cute outfit :) Vegan power? Sure, why not?

The strength required is slightly less than it would take to do a regular squat with twice your body weight that deep. In the case of this girl, probably 200-210 lbs.

Where'd you read that? I'd be curious to know since I agree with your other comment but not this one. Flexibility and balance are MUCH more important than strength here. I'd imagine a 1-legged squat is really more like squatting with 20-50 pounds on your back, not double body-weight... I mean you're only lifting an extra leg...
