ohhhh ab....this bar is worthless to a bodybuilder.....thanks for trying though i do appreciate it. This is great as a snack for people that aren't too active though and thats what it was made to do. Perhaps if i used unflavored whey protein....
it all depends on your goal, you could alter the process to fit the situation, if your lookin for a little boost during the day as opposed to druging your self with coffee...
You might as well eat a salad or a handful of grapes then if you're going to do that, not waste your time making energy bars. I mean the guy spent the first ten minutes talking about how great they are for packing as much energy as possible into a small package.
The whole point of eating is to get calories. Eating salad because you can eat all the salad you want and not get fat is starving yourself. Get enough calories and work it off in the gym. This should be a given regardless of goals.
@GeneralSeptem The idea here is portability. I would like to see you pull out a bowl of salad out of your gym bag and chow down after a workout. Fruits are quickly digestible and ,being mostly sugar, are in and out of your system fairly quickly, great for a preworkout jump but not sustained energy after.
@Cueball305 Hah! I could do that, but I would probably collapse in the car on the drive home if I tried. Portability is exactly my point. 50 calories the size of a deck of cards is not in any way portable; it's a waste of space. Make the bars as calorie and nutrient dense as possible - if you want fewer calories, cut smaller bars. Simple.
@eddievhfan1984 Calories aren't a source of energy. Calorie is a UNIT of energy. If a food source delivers 0 calories, then it delivers NO ENERGY. As far as the feeling of energy goes, only drugs (such as caffeine) can do that. A vitamin deficiency can make you feel tired, but only those vitamins that are essential to metabolism. The reason you feel tired is because your body isn't deriving calories as efficiently from food sources. Read something.
@GeneralSeptem I know all that. But I figure AB's recipe is intended not for bodybuilders or soldiers pulling 16-hour patrols, but for those who simply need a small pick-me-up while exercising or trying to kill that drowsy feeling in the cube farm. And I do read. What gives you the idea that I don't?
@eddievhfan1984 Then they're really not power bars. AB said it himself, power bars are great because they pack so many calories into such a small package. The point I'm making is, if that's the point of a power bar, then doing anything to purposefully reduce the calories is stupid.
cool way to show the soybean vs steak in a creative way

8.41g protein in a bar that size is not impressive. I like Alton and his show, but this time no cigar.

What's the point of reducing the calories of a POWER bar? The whole point is to put as much energy into a bar as possible.

@GeneralSeptem actually it's 150 cal in the size of a deck of cards. and it's pretty well ballanced nutrition, too

@GeneralSeptem That's assuming calories is the only source of energy (or feeling of energy).
