Relax, its just from my rather humorous and numerous experiences, Americans are pretty poor at accent-guessing. I don't study accents either - there's a line between not knowing and being stupid, its your call which side of said line you fall on. Anyway, don't get too worked up about it - just listen to some accents (i recommend listening to a Yorkshire accent - i love it)
