I'd knock that laura engalls dress off of her and have the time of my life with her. What a dream to be the guy she loves...Wow. I still have such a crush on her. Gods beauty!!
when I was little, my dad use to tell me he would trade mom for Olivia Newton-John. Then when I was in high school I said I hope I look like her when I'm her age. to which my dad replied, you should wish you look like her now...
I gather from both songs Olivia Newton-John sang here her Tonight Show appearance was from 1974. where she as 26 here. Glad to hear she's still around today.
And it's always sad to see Johnny Carson performing flawlessly & with such natural class, which is why today, the Vandals - Lena, Letterman, Stewart, Kimmel etc. - are so depressing to watch (which I stopped doing, a long time ago).
I've always loved Olivia Newton-John. She is still one of my all time favorite singers. I love her accent and it always amazes me how people with English/Australian accents can sing and you don't hear their accents.
The only thing better than the thought of O N J coming on to me in 1976, would have been her coming on to me after fighting farrah for me, Just dreaming,
She (or he) went from looking lovely, with some semblance of "natural", warped in an artfully crafted (err, peroxide) nearly angelic fair-haired-gal, projecting a refined, intelligent and sincere image.... to effectively repelling her fan base in an ill-advised bid to remain "relevant" and current, repackaged in 1980s "material girl" loud-brassy-tackiness .... with a whole lot of ... err ... dyke tossed into the mix .... right? Wow -- what a waste ... a nightmare course in self-debasement.
@mbhotie715: Hey there -- look around for yourself on youtube -- check out the weird Get Physical VID etc; good luck....oh, and more recently she went botox plastic surgery crazy, as if a cabbage patch doll mated with House of Wax monster visage -- no kidding.
I love Youtube. Honestly, could you have imagined just a few years ago typing in something like "tonight" and stumbling on something so awesome as this?
WOW! What a great classic video this is! Thanks for sharing this one!! ONJ has the voice of an angel and the heart of one too!! She is as beautiful today as she was then! Thanks again for posting this video!!
I played the heck out of this album, brings back childhood memories. Olivia is still my favorite female voice. The 70's is my favorite Olivia era but I'm glad she's still singing.
@Lindawatcher We wouldn't have known that then if that were true. At least she knows how conduct herself with class and dignity in public, unlike many of those in entertainment today. They said the same of Grace Kelly, but she had impeccable public behavior. Things were a lot more pleasant when we didn't know all the dirt and people knew how to conduct themselves.
Wow, imagine that, she actually just got up on stage sat down and sang a song without whirleygigs, and computerized voice enhancing fickleflurfeys! Just a beautiful woman singing a beautiful song with her beautiful voice. Love you Olivia. Entertainment as it used to be.
This sounds live because I don't remember the voice inflections and word spacings in any recordings I have ever heard before. I think the video and voice are a little out of sync and that makes it look like she is lip syncing. It is good, whatever. - No matter what, anyone with eyes, can not deny her beauty. She may not the most beautiful young lady but she is still a true beauty with a sence of wholesomeness. She exemplifies what a real lady should hope to exude.
How could Carson forget the fact that she perfomed at Eurovision singing "Long Live Love" for England? (you know who won) I hope this made the newly-released Tonight Show boxsets, because I think it's time to have some of the musical performances (just as they can do it for "The Ed Sullivan Show")..
she has inspired me so much and she has done so many great things with people, animals, and the environment , and she is so beautiful and sings like a angel , i hope to meet her some day and tell her about how she has made such a positive impact on my life and how i love her music and because of her i sing again
if we both were born in another place and time...I would be married to this lovely classy lady.Thank you Olivia for the past, present and future you continue to share with us.I honestly love you too
No wonder she become world wide famous. She had such a fresh, pure image, a beautifull face and cristal clear voice. You must be deaf and blind to not appreciate this, even if you don´t like this kind of music, that I don´t. Thanks for posting
She & Linda Ronstadt were the 2 female singers of the 70s who every man wanted (most every man) & all the girls wanted to be because they were so beautiful and talented. Olivia won a lot of CMA awards & received a lot of criticism for it because she wasn't "country," although Olivia had nothing to do with getting nominated. One of the best female singers, loved her "high" voice.
Being an angel like she is, it kind of type casts her as well an angel witch is what she is....but what's up with that Fked up band they were off!! the guitar player was totally out of tune two-she makes then sound good-how'd they get that fn gig-
What is up with those dresses from the 70's? Everone wore those country looking dresses that look like Laura Ingals' night gown. Can you say "Nelly Olsen?" Olivia has a great voice. She seems very sweet. I wonder what they think when they see themselves back then. Especially people like Diane Keaton who with Al Pacino had to have been the worst dressed couple of that era.
Gotta hand it to Johnny, I don't think I could have carried on any kind of interview with Olivia without looking like a slobbering fool. That smile that starts @ 8:38 , that's why so many guys from 8 to 80 fell in love with her in the 70's. Me included.
I think if I was in the audience and she looked into my eyes and said " I honestly love you " ... I would have rushed the stage ! Just kidding . Ha! Ha!
Can anyone find the footage on Tonight Show where Carson makes a comment about ONJ being lesbian? The comment was something like 'what a waste" or something similar. It's not to take anything away from Olivia it's just that I heard about an incident on the Tonight Show and would like to verify it after all these years. I had a teenage crush on her because of I Honestly Love You. It sounded so honest, it made you believe her!
I was a single guy in the military in Alaska when I saw this show, which I have never forgotten. I thought she was the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen, and with that sweet voice. As others have said, she was a class act, nothing like now.
Carson was too.
I never thought I'd have a chance to see that performance again. A huge thanks for posting it!
I was a young teenager when I heard her singing I Honestly Love You. So naive was I, that I thought she was telling me, and me only, how much she loved me. I had a huge crush on her for many, many years before moving on to lusting other women. yet to this day, that innocent, pure beauty is what most draws me to women like her
Definitely a more innocent time. She's not pole dancing like the strippers who sing today. What's even more amazing, though, is that musical acts got to do two numbers on the Tonight Show back then and Johnny would actually talk to them like regular guests. Under Leno, musical acts came on at the very end, did one song, and were not interviewed unless they were huge stars.
But "'I've" WATCHED Jay Leno's Tonight Show sometimes and have seen people such as Nelly Furtado do more than one song on the show. So yes, some singers do get to do 2 songs.
You say it precisely correctly: "strippers who sing today." Perhaps we might add "strippers who pretend to sing today," as most of them would be lost without all the technology enhancing their non-existent voices while they writhe and gyrate.
I can't help but hate the world we live in now when I see the young Olivia singing so sweetly and looking so radiantly, honestly beautiful. What fools we are to have allowed this world to be replaced with Lady Doo Doo and the rest.
Can you even imagine a song with that title appearing today? I doubt most of today's female singer have ever used that phrase in their real lives, much less written a song that expresses that simple, pure sentiment.
Our culture is dying. All you have to do to realize it is compare Olivia's expression at the conclusion of her second number here to the disgusting, animal expression on the faces of the filthy whores who 'sing' today.
@rhomboidvideos People like Olivia Newton-John have no need for acting slutty or flashy. That's because they have TRUE TALENT. She puts on a bit of makeup and a pretty dress, then blows everyone's minds with that perfect pitch and incredible voice! There won't be another like her, and we can only hope that we'll someday return to that kind of simplicity.
Wow, first time on the tonight show, and yet so cool, calm, and collected. Beeming with confidence but so wholesome and pure. What a truly gifted person.
I hit the down arrow by mistake. I meant to give you thumbs up, as I was 17 as well and was lucky enough to see Olivia live in concert two years later! Oh, such memories of a simpler time.
Yes, she comes out wearing a dress bearing no skin at all. Yet, she still looks incredibly beautiful. She still has her dignity and doesn't have to dress like a slut ie. Brittany Spears... to impress anyone. She's tried to get somewhere on her talent and didn't sell out. And what a beautiful voice she has.
Thanks for the great comments-thanks for viewing the clips.I was unaware that the audio was somewhat out of sync-sorry about that!Originally it wasn't.That also happened to another rare DC5 Clip I have on here.Maybe I'll have to repost it?
I have LOTS more rare ONJ stuff too which I'll try to post when time permits.
I've met her a few times in person & she's very nice & NOT like the typical celebrity.I had her sign my rare "Toomorrow" record cover.
One can tell in the background that there is no lipsync recording going on here cause one can hear the drums and the actual orchestra using its unique instruments. The orchestra does give it a different version because its an orchestra and not just her little band when performing at college concerts as she did back then.she says she has 2 nationalities of being british and australian.this show was one of her very first ones on night television.
ㅇThank you for the Livvy's video clip. - In my opinion, This video clip is very special. that's why this video is includes dialogue & sing a song From : Seoul, South korea
I wondered when someone would present her early appaearances with Johnny Carson , she did several for him and man what a joy to see over 30 to 40 years old man .this girl caused such a hoopla with her hypenated name and country awards man .
Brilliant quality! As a footnote, I think this may have been the appearance on the Carson show that Olivia later mentioned as having started the gay rumors about her - though they don't show Johnny asking her about whether she had more boyfriends or girlfriends, as Olivia recalled in her 2001 "The Advocate" interview with Del Shores.
Exactly what I was looking for! The comment Johnny made about her girlfriend, or some such. I have wondered about that for years and would love to see the footage that verifies what I only heard about years ago. I love that performance and having a lesbian partner means nothing to me, nor does it detract from her wonderful talent.
Fantastic! Great live performance - excellent quality - though lip synch drifts as the clip goes on (probably a result of YT compression or something else).
What a charming and talented young lady - so unlike Britney Spears and today's singers.
When did this air and how did you get it since it pre-dates home VCRs. I'm guessing about 1972-73?
I'd knock that laura engalls dress off of her and have the time of my life with her. What a dream to be the guy she loves...Wow. I still have such a crush on her. Gods beauty!!

I've met her a few times in person & she's very nice & NOT like the typical celebrity.I had her sign my rare "Toomorrow" record cover.
Enjoy!

Thanks.
