omg that what happened to my Vaio laptop, it is still like this. Can you tell me what you did to fix it and how much it cost you? thanks! This happened to mine like 3 months ago and since then I haven't used it :(

Damn crappy Toshibas - thats an inverter failure. I worked the Toshiba depot for a year, saw maybe 30 machines a day. Rarely is it the cable or motherboard (M2's are usually motherboard though)

Video cable from the back of the display panel to the motherboard (or video card if it's separate). If a person gets external video on a monitor but no backlight and can see video most times it's a dead or shorted inverter but can be the CCFL bulb (replaceable but hard to do for most folks) and it can be a video cable getting broken wires. Some models defy this as I mentioned and give external but ends up as a motherboard.

ur florescent light bulb that lights up ur lcd is busted.. removed it and buy a replacement. things like new again.

@redgevergara vaios r well nown to have there wires get trapped under the speaks that also causes screen cuts and dims
