Freebird is the GREATEST rock song ever!!!! This SONG is PLAYED in EVERY bar across this country by ROCK bands daily. This song shows off your guitar talent like no other. And HOW true are the words? Oh how I wish I could write such a song!
It's a shame when people claim to be such great fans of Lynyrd Skynyrd and can't even spell it! This is a great cover, but no one can sing it like Ronnie, not even Johnny!!
@wrtausy i like how he really gets into the music,if you notice his eyes are usually shut when freebird was played and he starts rocking left and right
@artyleasure remember ed king? the one who wrote the world famous riff to sweet home alabama, he's alive. so gary and ed are the two original members left.
@wrtausy i like how he really got into the music,if you notice his eyes are usually shut when freebird was played and he starts rocking left and right
I've been a Skynyrd fan sense day one and I've never heard a band cover Free Bird as well. But then again molly Hatchet has always been right up there with the greats
OK this is not the original Lynard Synard, but I think it is fantastic. It is a tribute to Lynard Synard and is music to this man's ears. Any band would be grateful for a tribute by these bands as wonderful as they are in their on right.
Thank you C.D.B. and M.H. And thank I think you for posting this tribute.
This is too perfect, It lacks the true L. S. feel. Imo there will never be anything close to the original Molly Hatchet, what they created musically will never be matched. R.I.P. !!
i agree, joltingbeam. they came thru here OPENING for kid rock! nothing against K>R>, but this was a band that blew the stones off the stage by Mick Jaggers own admission,
As Charlie Daniels said at Ronnie's funeral: "Fly on proud bird, You're free at last!" I wish this for all the free birds from Lynyrd Skynyrd who are no longer with us.
Yeah Ronnie was all set to produce their first album,i think he helped them a great deal to get started, and i may be wrong but i think he also helped 38 special a great deal as well.
yes donnie van zant helped too. well im going to a skynyrd concert sometime this semester. because i think it might be there last tour. judy (ronnies wife) said shed shutdown the band if there werent more than 2 original band members in the band and now that billys dead that only leaves gary rossengton. i hope its not there last but just incase im going.
Doesn`t Gary Rossington own the band now or at least a share of it,i didn`t think Judy had that much say in the band at the end of the day i could agree with her if Gary wasn`t there or if Johnny decided to call it quits but i think as long as Gary and Johnny are there it should continue.
It was the rule of 3 original member for the band to keep touring as Skynyrd. I dont know if it was made up before or after the crash. But i only see 1 original member on the road with the tribute band. I Saw Ronnie fronting "HIS" band and this is not even in the same state as they were... Rock on Charlie & Rip DJB & DR
Sorry DR = Duane Roland (December 3, 1953 - June 19, 2006) was a guitarist for the rock band Molly Hatchet. another note. when i said this is not even close. I was referring to the Original Lynyrd Skynyrd band and them on the road today as the LS band. Charlie and Hatchet did a great job here!!!!
Ricky Medlocke is technically considered an original member since he played drums for them on the Muscle Shoals album. In my opinion the new Skynyrd should be shut down. They dont have the right to call themselves Lynyrd Skynyrd and write their own original music. After the plane crash the band promised Judy they wouldnt come back under the name Lynyrd Skynyrd. When they did she sued them and they settled out of court. I dont think she has a say in th eband at all anymore.
Oh make NO MISTAKE.... Judy has total control over the name and the muzic. She may have made a deal for them to use it. But sell I would say never in a milion years. Yes she can shut this dog and pony show down when she is ready.. The question is. Is she ready to shut it down as people like me will never buy the muzic these guys make. Let them or other's come out every so often for a tribute to then. this is a disgrace to Ronnie and the Boys and the Honkett's. why didnt they go into the hall?

This is Very COOL. No hate or disrespect intended in my posts, however, for the most part, Southern Rock is somewhat like the old South itself, gone but not forgotten. Like Hank Williams Jr. said, "Might even be better off". Peace Koz07.
Well Damn Old Charlie Daniels and Molly Hatchett are sure tearing this up in a good way. them guitar solo's are kinda right on.. But then again when paying Homage to yer friends you want it to be right on!!!!!! I don't really think this is about what is bettah. But that was damn good. Wondering how many time's CD played this with ronnie and the boy's. probably many time's....... Ronnie produced MH first album and got them going in the right direction
Lynyrd skynyds version is happy-better. I like both their studio and concerto version Gerorgia, USA in 1976. If you know Charlie Daniels / you undrestand this sacred copy is just as good however.
I would agree. I mean come on its Charlie Danials and Molly Hatchet. Southern Rock at its best. As you might know Lynyrd Skynyrd lost anouther comrad R.I.P. Billy Powell.
i have seen molly and skynyrd many time. well jonnys take over in 87.but I also agree. molly hatchet nailed free bird. better then anyone ever. not bad for the band people back in the day said . molly .could never get er done..in skynyrds own music.. south florida! you guys were wrong.. rock on molly hatchet.love you guys..
GREAT cover, one of the best ive heard. too bad the traveling tribute band that calls themselves skynyrd slaughters this song the way they do. is that danny joe singing after the piano solo? cause i swear it sounds alot like donnie vanzant. if anyone knows, please tell. RIP- RVZ, DJB, Allen Collins, Duane Roland, Steve and Cassie Gaines, and Leon "The Mad Hatter" Wilkeson. yall are missed more than you could ever imagine
saw hatchet in 87 at newport music hall in columbus ohio.(one of many times).. They blew me away with a blistering rendition of freebird.. they were in top form that night...miss ya danny joe
