at first I was thinking the same thing yet I believes it helps because it makes me listen a little closer and I can hear thru the music just like if I were to be outside with other people talking , so it kind of trains you to concentrate on what is being said. So the familiar music should be easier to tune out

Think of it this way.. learning Chinese for most english speaking people is going to be extremely difficult. Having that added attraction of Michael Jackson music in the background just serves to compound this difficulty.
