If you extract the water from a cell or larger lifeform, that water is not alive, just as the rest of the thing isn't, but the genetic information from the water-free cell could be put in a vector and replicated, the enzymes could be extracted and used, the suggars and fats could do their function in other organisms (we eat to get them not the water)
