  • acceptable splice loss is determined by the owner of the fiber you are splicing for. usually specified in the contract and or spec book at the begining of the project. i personaly have never seen anything over a .03 be acceptable and every splice had to be accounted for on the machine and after all splicing was completed and tested with the otdr, being saved to the drive on the otdr, to cd and turned into owner for review and acceptence.

  • Whatis the limit for a good splice then? 0.04 0.05?

  • what did you use for record ? fucking camera from self phone. Terrible quality

  • can someone explain how to cut FO

to the activity, and what is the ideal tools to used to cut the fo

    thanks

  • using tool called: cleaver

  • fiber optics shatters like glass in sub zero temps. How is this not a threat to the communication industry?

  • fiber optic cable can handle up to -40C..and if not moved it can handle more.

  • True the only complete way to access loss is the use of an OTDR but, the machines are pretty accurate.

  • looking for better than that. ooops. We got more.

  • uhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

  • Yes, that was really nasty one. He had to redo it because of the loss.

Our work site was 10m below ground level, in a corridor 1,5m wide.

  • hehehe, damn, that's 0.17 db loss !!!

  • Not a very good splice. I'm sure you got it the next time around.

  • i work with that one too, i like my fujikura ^^

  • Wow everyone here is a genious! i dont even know what i was watching but it looked intence

  • lol my thoughts exactly. btw, genius has no 'o' =P (intense) lol sry i have OCD :]

  • You do realize that the splicer cannot give an accurate splice loss measurement right? It tries to estimate the loss by measuring the diameter of the core splice and calculates what it thinks the splice should be. I ran several experiments using a Sumitomo and compared the estimated loss to the OTDT loss and it was never correct.

  • :) hehe i use the Fujikura 50s and i just love it. I break up the splic if the loss is more then 0.05 on a fth connektion but to tell the truthe i did 36 splice before lunch and the was only one 0,03 the rest was all belowe that most of them 0,00 :) Well beside one large dust burne hehe

  • holmarkr, destroying the splice and redoing it if the loss is more than 0.05 is a waste of time. Does the company you work for tell you to redo it if its greater than 0.05 or is that your own "rule"? Just curious....

  • hehe large dust burn is a big problem :D:D

  • Yeah, nasty splice. But a minute later everything was fine again - splice loss 0,00dB

  • Ups a bad one ther mait :)
