john stewart was a geniusi saw him @ the roundhouse in london circa 73-74he was on with mike nesmith, i think he should have had one song inparticular featured in the recent academy award winning movie "crazy heart" the song?DURANGO! from the album "cannons in the rain" that song sums up everything to do with celebrity and country music!just ask jbbutterfield
I followed John Stewarts music for over 40 years. Gamble Rogers of Florida fame turned me on to John back in the late 60´s. I sure feel sad just knowing that John is not there to write songs for all of us lonesome pickers.
@berlinguitars -- Gamble Rogers! I haven't heard his name in years. Did some TV with him during my Florida days. (I didn't sing or play with him, just booked and hosted him. Our viewers were grateful.)
Thank you for this tribute, the tune you picked is perfect, and you know the rest of the story from our emails. John's music was the soundtrack of my life and will continue to be. Rest in Peace, John! You won't be forgotten! Say 'Hey!' to my brother when you see him up there in Heaven!
John was the best...I saw him in 1974 at Santa Clara Univ. (in the cafeteria) for the 1st time - then around 1980 at a Kingston Trio Reunion at Chuck's Cellar. He was awesome.
This video took me back to the days when John and Arnie Moore used to play at The Stables in East Lansing, MI. John was a legend, and my friend Arnie still is! Love ya both.
thanks for this tribute. I have loved his music for 40 years. His story songs about America are the most poignant and real. Not sloppy sentiment but full of real people. His song about Bobby Kennedy will also haunt me.
This man will never be forgotten. Over time his legend will grow and grow, as more and more people discover his songs, and as other singers sing them. Those who knew you John--in person or through your songs--loved you. tle, loved you
Gary told me about this the other day. So sad. I am like you, he influenced a bittersweet time in my life. He will me missed by this family and many others. Love ya George! With every video that you make the more I like about you!
Thanks.I saw John at Stanford in 74 0r 75.It was the day Evil Knievel tried to jump across the Grand Canyon. He dedicated this to him.

hey Brucebutt, I was there too! Didn't he just steal the show!
I then lived in L.A. for five years and saw him many times. The man was wonderful, why is he not more well known this side of the pond. RIP John. x
