You have to remember that the mustang is a second behind the M3, even though the mustang has almost 100 more lb-ft of torque than the M3. That's quite an advantage which brings me back to my point. BMW seems to make more out of less.

BMW takes less, and makes more of it, which is why I mentioned that the M3 is a second quicker with 100 less torque, identical weight, and similar tire sizes. A typical manufacturer would rely on upping the power and fattening the tires, where in this case, we can see the M3 made the best out of lower specs. Their 3.2 churned out 340hp, and now their 4.0 does 414hp. Thats a lot out of so little.

@rumenraykov no... sorry it doesn't. Even with the extra gear ratio, the power to weight isn't there. An equally powered, nearly 4000lb car vs a ~3175lb car with more torque will lose. The Z06 actually has shiity gearing for its power too. The ZR1 is a better candidate for those ratios.

Since M cars don't use aluminum spaceframes and double wishbones on four corners, nobody should expect them to be faster than vettes on the ring. How about an apples to apples comparison. The F10 M5 does the ring in 7:55, CTS-V in 7:59, when the BMW has 50 less torque, and weighs 50lbs more than the CTS-V. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

The specs on the new M5 don't support the "theory" that it will kill the CTS-V. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that 6.2 Liter in the CTS-V is barely being used. If GM tunes the CTS-V like the ZR1, the M5 will get another beating.

CTS-V's interior is stellar and if you say it isnt, you haven't seen one fully loaded.

I was lucky enough to ride in a tuned CTS-V and believe me, it wasnt a "surge" of power like the M3 and M5 produce, it was a neck-snapping acceleration and when he is just normally driving it feels refined and smoothe over any surface. Most of my co workers own BMW's new and old, from 325i to E92 M3 7spd to 650i's The caddy drives the same as all of them but is on a whole different level of performance

You can't really say the M6 is a better machine because they are not in the same category and cannot be compared. The M6 also costs significantly more as well. I think jyhighsky put it best describing the M6 as a sports luxury coupe. Wait until the Cadillac CTS-V coupe hits the roads. Then we will have a better comparison of luxury sports coupes. I sat in a new CTS-V on Sunday and the interior is roomy and beautiful, but the LS9 sounds plain mean.
I agree with most of what you are saying accept people do worry about maintenance costs. These days, they do. I am a repair business owner and former Mercedes Benz Tech and MB ELITE graduate and the cost to maintain a BMW or Mercedes is incredible and people push back alot when you give them the cost of 60K and 90K mile services of 4 digits. Anyone that keeps either out of the warranty period is crazy plain and simple.

I don't know why you & that twitchmassacre guy always preach about how the BMW engine is naturally aspirated. It is a V10 while most of it's competitors are V8s. I would say the extra 2 cylinders are just as much of an advantage as having a turbocharger!
The Bimmer might have 2 more cylinders....but the displacement is small. This is generally to get greater hp and less torque numbers for more of a balanced feel....ferrari's do the same thing. BMW>Chevrolet....M6 is a pure luxury car that just happens to perform very well...z06 is the exact opposit...PERFORMANCE only & poorly built.
The M6 is nowhere near a pure luxury car, no BMW is. Drive a Lexus, Jag, or Benz you will see that BMWs (especially the M6) are not luxury cars at all, they are performance/sports cars & only that. Even the 7 series which is BMW's most luxurious model is not as luxurious as a Jaguar or Lexus' more sportier models. I say poorly built for these reasons: Before I bought my M3 I test drove a 2007 Z06. On the test drive I took it on the highway, got up to speed and when i stepped on the brakes the passenger seat folded forward. The roof if you tap on it makes a tinny noise, there is cheap plastic everywhere ..BUT THE CAR HAULED ASS. So I bought a BMW M3 because of the quality and higher class interior. When I buy a car, it has to make me feel proud and the bimmer did that for me.

@isiahlilman I've yet to have a problem with mine. All cars have some sort of recall but recalls are covered under warranty so there's nothing to worry about. People that buy BMW's generally have money and don't need to worry about maintenance. Corvette's have recalls too just like any other car. Before liking BMW I was a chevy guy all the way but after only owning chevy's my eyes were opened when I saw how amazing BMW is. Uncompromising quality in every aspect of the car, performance also

You have to remember that the mustang is a second behind the M3, even though the mustang has almost 100 more lb-ft of torque than the M3. That's quite an advantage which brings me back to my point. BMW takes less, and makes more of it, which is why I mentioned that the M3 is a second quicker with 100 less torque, identical weight, and similar tire sizes. A typical manufacturer would rely on upping the power and fattening the tires, where in this case, we can see the M3 made the best out of lower specs. Their 3.2 churned out 340hp, and now their 4.0 does 414hp. Thats a lot out of so little.

@rumenraykov no... sorry it doesn't. Even with the extra gear ratio, the power to weight isn't there. An equally powered, nearly 4000lb car vs a ~3175lb car with more torque will lose. The Z06 actually has shiity gearing for its power too. The ZR1 is a better candidate for those ratios.

these are two different cars:
1)corvette = wheels and engine with some chinese plastic around them. basically a project car for track use.
2)bmw = quality luxury coupe, built to last.
and GTR +switzer p800 turbo kit smokes corvette. why would you pay 120000$+ for drivetrain and a pile of plastic when you can get a faster GTR for less than 120000.

Since M cars don't use aluminum spaceframes and double wishbones on four corners, nobody should expect them to be faster than vettes on the ring. How about an apples to apples comparison. The F10 M5 does the ring in 7:55, CTS-V in 7:59, when the BMW has 50 less torque, and weighs 50lbs more than the CTS-V. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

The specs on the new M5 don't support the "theory" that it will kill the CTS-V. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that 6.2 Liter in the CTS-V is barely being used. If GM tunes the CTS-V like the ZR1, the M5 will get another beating.

You can buy a Hennessey 700hp package for the CTS-v and it will pass smog vs the expensive M5 that wont be able to keep up and have the SAME interior and ride quality. CTS-V's interior is stellar and if you say it isnt, you haven't seen one fully loaded.

I was lucky enough to ride in a tuned CTS-V and believe me, it wasnt a "surge" of power like the M3 and M5 produce, it was a neck-snapping acceleration and when he is just normally driving it feels refined and smoothe over any surface. Most of my co workers own BMW's new and old, from 325i to E92 M3 7spd to 650i's The caddy drives the same as all of them but is on a whole different level of performance

@johnyrate I don't even understand that. You obviously have never seen a fully loaded CTS-V, even the XLR looked more exotic than BMW's. Two of my co-workers own E92 M3's and I am not impressed by the retro looking controls. Just because they have wood trim, motorized cup holders, and motorized seat belt extenders makes them luxurious? All these fanboys on here are pathetic and will never, NEVER own a new M series. I could give a fuck if you go buy a used E46 oe E92 3 series. Gratz, you fail.

You can't really say the M6 is a better machine because they are not in the same category and cannot be compared. The M6 also costs significantly more as well. I think jyhighsky put it best describing the M6 as a sports luxury coupe. Wait until the Cadillac CTS-V coupe hits the roads. Then we will have a better comparison of luxury sports coupes. I sat in a new CTS-V on Sunday and the interior is roomy and beautiful, but the LS9 sounds plain mean.

I agree with most of what you are saying accept people do worry about maintenance costs. These days, they do. I am a repair business owner and former Mercedes Benz Tech and MB ELITE graduate and the cost to maintain a BMW or Mercedes is incredible and people push back alot when you give them the cost of 60K and 90K mile services of 4 digits. Anyone that keeps either out of the warranty period is crazy plain and simple.

lol i'm no Vette fan. i'll easily grab an M6 over a Z06 any day of the week. but you can't be ignorant and think that a Z06 will ever loose to a M6 on the track. It's a track built purpose car. Not like a sports LUXURY coupe like a M6.
BMW > Chevy in my books. But in all honesty, when it comes to a track against a M6 vs a Z06... Z06 will easily win.

I don't know why you & that twitchmassacre guy always preach about how the BMW engine is naturally aspirated. It is a V10 while most of it's competitors are V8s. I would say the extra 2 cylinders are just as much of an advantage as having a turbocharger!

The Bimmer might have 2 more cylinders....but the displacement is small. This is generally to get greater hp and less torque numbers for more of a balanced feel....ferrari's do the same thing. BMW>Chevrolet....M6 is a pure luxury car that just happens to perform very well...z06 is the exact opposit...PERFORMANCE only & poorly built.

The M6 is nowhere near a pure luxury car, no BMW is. Drive a Lexus, Jag, or Benz you will see that BMWs (especially the M6) are not luxury cars at all, they are performance/sports cars & only that. Even the 7 series which is BMW's most luxurious model is not as luxurious as a Jaguar or Lexus' more sportier models. And I wasnt sticking up for the Vette in my previous comment, I just meant that as a general statement.

I say poorly built for these reasons: Before I bought my M3 I test drove a 2007 Z06. On the test drive I took it on the highway, got up to speed and when i stepped on the brakes the passenger seat folded forward. The roof if you tap on it makes a tinny noise, there is cheap plastic everywhere ..BUT THE CAR HAULED ASS. So I bought a BMW M3 because of the quality and higher class interior. When I buy a car, it has to make me feel proud and the bimmer did that for me.

@isiahlilman I've yet to have a problem with mine. All cars have some sort of recall but recalls are covered under warranty so there's nothing to worry about. People that buy BMW's generally have money and don't need to worry about maintenance. Corvette's have recalls too just like any other car. Before liking BMW I was a chevy guy all the way but after only owning chevy's my eyes were opened when I saw how amazing BMW is. Uncompromising quality in every aspect of the car, performance also
