  • this things will not happend in 2045. but will happend one day... FREEZE you body man!!!

  • LOL He looks the same now as he does today.

  • I think as time goes on, Kurzweil will exponentially be looked at as more of a genius.

  • HAHAHAHAHA... none of those graphs looked exponential at all.

If you want to know what exponential growth looks like... just type into a graphing calculator y = e^(x)

Those graphs look nothing like exponential growth. They look more linear than exponential.

  • @collins1188 probably because those graphs were logarithmic, so a linear line actually represents an exponential change if those values were shown on a normal graph. The logarithmic graph is used so you can appreciate details that might be several orders of magnitude (perhaps billions of times) different in scale in one graph.

  • @collins1188 You moron, it IS exponential... look at the y axis...

  • What will the media look like when all this happens?

  • What conference is this?

  • I just hope I'll be alive when immortality technology arrives.

  • me,too

  • You an atheist?

  • atheist? i'm rather transhumanist(or posthumanist) than atheist.

logically,we have no idea whether some mighty one above heaven watch us or not.

but anyway i don't care at all.

  • Your a transhumanist? Um the term is not quite there yet and it will be a little time will we get there. How will this post human idea affect things like Entrepreneurship, media, art, psychology etc how will it change the culture in which we live? people will lose jobs because humans and machines are perfected to run them all. It is a weird theory but I am concerned witht he philosophical issues of it. Maybe you could answer my questions.

  • Advanced education and technology will render simple jobs, mundane jobs, blue-collar jobs, and some white-collar jobs obsolete. Everyone will be educated and elevated to perform very advanced jobs. We will deal in a currency that will always have scarcity, IDEAS. Business ideas, artists, engineers will be the respected producers in the future.

  • Cool shit. WHat will entertainment and science look like?

  • Entertainment will be very advanced and satisfying, just look at today. Even only since 2000 we have virtual worlds that people love and open up new channels of expression and entertainment such as World of Warcraft, new massive luxury cruise ships coming out, advanced laptops and portable media players, smart mobile phones, youtube... It took people living 300 years ago hundreds of years to develop equivalent entertainment (books, theater, etc), we accomplished this in 9 years since 2000.

  • Will people be doing this for the entertainment of others? Or will robots do it?

  • People will provide the best ideas. Robots will facilitate and form the foundation of everything else. Say someone has an idea of a theme park, they make that idea a reality through robots.

Check out my channel and my playlist "Our Future" I am hard at work compiling the best future and advanced technology videos on youtube for the public to enjoy and learn from. Spread the word, and this magnificent future may come sooner than you think!

  • I agree with you 100% vut what happens to Scientist's, entertainers, business people etc what do they do if robots rule all. How can we b e creative and unique in our own way if were all way smarter than we are now. How is everyone different and learning from one and other?

  • Sorry for the delay. Just think of it this way, our intelligence and brainpower will be expanded tremendously by machines and therefore our avenues of creative expression and interpretation of everything will be greatly expanded too. Some may choose to reorganize their brain at the biological level, turning them into totally different psychological beings. A book that explores this is The Golden Age by John C Wright, if you are curious how people may think and interact.

  • Where is your response to my last comment?

  • Im still waiting!

  • I for one would take the biological ruote but you never answered my question. Right now humans see things and experience events differently. We do not all think the same way. So I want to know if this happens will humans all be equal intelligence? Where is uniqueness among our populations and how do we ineract if we all think and are of the same intelligence?

  • Intelligence does not decide how people think, it is merely an arbitrary range or level at which they think. William F. Buckley and Noam Chomsky are intelligent guys, but they had wildly different viewpoints. Many artists are of the same "intelligence" level, but yet they produce such varied works. If machines are integrated, they will allow us to think, process, communicate, and learn much quicker and also boost memory. Much like an amputee getting a prosthetic, we will remain individuals.

  • So b asically we will be our selves cept a lot faster. But again where is the learning process of experience??

  • Nobody knows how augmentation is going to go down. We're already augmented! Do you have a computer? A cellphone? A toothbrush? What type? There will be a lot of peronal preference involved.

As for experience - I had tons of experiences that kids today will never have. They'll have learning experiences that I'll never have. Is that what you're getting at?

  • Im talking about human uniqueness. If were all progressed to be smarter than we are where does abstract thought come from? How we all think and differ. Where will the idea's come from in the next revolution. We will all be robots. We will have no cause or personality anymore

  • It's impossible for something to be 'smarter' or more 'intelligent' than anything else except in light of some GOAL. A rock is much smarter than I am at sitting still :)

So any 'smart' augmentation will have to have some GOAL to improve, and something will have to CHOOSE that, arbitrarily. We are already the smartest humans we can possibly be. No augmentation will make me MORE myself. But I may become stronger, faster and tell better jokes, all while having no discernible body odor.

  • Answer more simply please. Where will human uniqueness go. If machines take us over and we sit in virtual reality all day we will suffer and are not human. Why not go outside instead of sitting inside a helmet of outsaide

  • Hmm, imagine someone taking a pill that makes them slightly "happier". Or more "awake". Now imagine that all the time, without having to take pills. Things like that are more likely to be our 'virtual reality' than a helmet like you're thinking.

Right now it seems weird, but at some point I imagine it won't.

  • Another answer to your question, tons of people sit in front of computers/ virtual reality already, and that seems to be where most jobs are headed. Yes it DOES seem a bit like the Matrix... everpresent virtual reality. Who knew it would be so pleasant? We are in Virtual Reality right now as we 'speak'!

So I understand your concern, and yes, I do believe people should run around outside at every available opportunity.

  • So why sit in virtual 3d worlds all the time. We willnot create in our world we will just be istting in a computer's. Were not stuck in reality. Reality has a deep meaning to it/ Its not ani llusion

  • people don't sit in virtual 3d worlds all the time. i don't think they will. the point i'm making is: IF there is a 'virtual reality' in our future, no one will notice it. The fish are the last ones to notice the water,

  • From the beginning we will because we will be the first to have put it on. Your philosophy is a theory with no moral to back it up so it can't be a good thing. techniology is progressing to fast for philosophy to catch up. This will take humanity by storm.

  • I do have morals. Bad things are bad. But what exactly are we saying is bad and who is doing it? Sitting in front of computer screens? You are doing that right now.

I believe technology has already taken us by storm... Imagine our ancestors complaining about this newfangled technology called the English language and the virtual reality it creates. We're in pretty intense VR as we sit here.

So there will be BIG changes, yes, but there have ALREADY been BIG changes for thousands of years.

  • What effect will this have on things like Entertainment, Entrepreneurship and science. What will happen to people and jobs and exploration of knwoledge?

  • Don't know :) That's up to us.

  • How is that up to us? Why embrace thing if we don't quite know yet what it will accomplish

  • Ever seen the movie surrogate? It's not a great movie but I suggest you watch it because you will probably find it interresting. It addresses the questions you are asking quite nicely.

  • Um how are we i n Virtual reality right now?

  • vision, which you are using, is a 'computer' of cells in your eye, which are producing the sensation of sight.

hearing is also a computer of cells.

all our senses are composed of a finite number of nerve cells.

if i were to call you on the telephone, you are reconstructing the reality of my voice with the aid of electronic pulses in the phone cord. you're not hearing ME, you're hearing a VIRTUAL me. in person, you don't hear my THOUGHTS when i speak - they are mediated by my vocal cords.

  • Ok so if this is the vision where is the philosophical vision? Does Humanity just sit around doing nothing?

  • Please answer my questions. You people never give proper advice to skeptic's nor try to counter them.

  • You an atheist?

  • Just make sure you look after your health and then the odds are in your favor. Ray Kurzweil wrote a book on keeping healthy actually.

  • First, I love RK; he is my hero. The integration of machines into humans (cyborgs) will not happen for some time if ever and why? My prediction is because of the emerging religious right that is tainting everything good about the USA. The more secular we become, the more we can access our true needs which in turn will allow us to aid those in need.

  • The Japanese and Koreans have no interest in the American religious right, nor have anyone else. This may hold America back, but not the rest of us.

  • I hope you are right! :)

  • Me to man:) whats up?

  • Politicians would love to live longer to spread their legacy further. Do some research son! Bitch ass bitch bitch!

  • I think cyborg technology will be first to come specifically because of bioluddites objection to changing humanity. It's the only field here with valid medical applications they can appreciate(prosthetics).

  • What RU talking about man.MY understanding of US history is that it was founded on Christian morals and ethics. Only since the late 60's has secular liberalizm begun taking a foothold to what you perceive today as the supposed mainstream. So the emerging right is not emerging at all but in fact has always been and is only now tring to fight back against seculars who are demanding cultural changes. But I am not an americian thus no expert on US culture.

Peace to all with OPEN MINDS and HEARTS

  • i dont have any problem, believing anything he, said it's all physicaly possible.

  • Kurzweil is a genius

  • this was a wonderful news story, the best I have seen covering any topic! It fills me with hope.

    -marvin edwarde

  • Thanks for explaining why!

  • i think its hilarious to read criticisms of kurzweil over the years. since he's been making these predictions for a few decades now, and so far has been continually right on the money, it makes people like 'adbatstone' sound like naive critics in the early 1900's who said cars would never catch on. haha

  • hmmmm...

  • I agree that Kurzweil's predictions are right on the mark. The future will be like magic in terms of today understanding of technology. I'm very hopeful that the future will be a better life. certainly, the past has not revealed any society close to a utopia.

  • 2012 ;)
