My father used to be a first officer in a mid-sided cargo ship. He told me that only weapon and training he had was a water cannon originally designed for fire fighting. Basically there is no weapons for sailors against AK47. I've heard that some ships are arming with this 'sound blaster' weapon. (search "Jem v. the US Navy's latest weapon - Bang Goes the Theory - BBC One" on youtube)
@quakingpig My father is commander on cargo ship too. He passed many time trough Somalia. And yes, it's true, that the only weapons they have on the ship is the water cannon and some ships are equiped with ultra-sonic sound difusor. Anyway, are some cases when a member or more, are legally posesors of fire-weapon certificate and they can carry on the weaps with them... and you know... the crew get lucky with one of those aboard! (Cause he really trained hard to obtain that weap. permision!)

I am very pleased with the South Korean Governments actions. Until and unless the pirates are killed either at their source or at their action points they will continue as they have. What really disturbs me though is one single question why aren't our merchantmen being armed and convoyed? It has saved ship owners losses for hundreds of years. Yet inexplicably, not even armed guards are being utilized. I'm beginning to wonder what is really going on here?
Just include a bunch of sharp shooters on the ship as PAID passengers. Then let them blow the pirates out of the water & soon this will all come to an end. Or of course you could just spray the coast of Somalia with 9 million dollars worth of ordinance, accept the collateral damage. Or declare war on Somalia, go in & capture everyone you see - give them an IQ test and execute anyone who failed.
Sink all small craft for 400 miles off the coast
yes yes a few innocent basterds wll get in the way
WOW... bad video editing.... using the wrong types of ships when referring to military vessels, showing military vessels when it talks about ships being hijacked.... PLUS maybe they would NOT have been hijacked if they didn't call it the JEWELRY even though that wasn't what they were transporting.
@Heartagramerz I'm not so sure about that, Hollywood as been making Pirate movies for decades, with many different actors even some really old movies in black and white.
Always portraying Pirates as something they are not,
