@bijeleudovice2 additionally, he can replicate them if not running 2-hour+ marathon full of demanding songs (+showmanship). E.g. monterux '86 audience improv, where voice was intact as the event is playback-only. raw vocals on mutlitracks show the lack of autotune/protools+ in 70s required very precise skills to overdub himself so elaborately. when 1 falters the others back up: Fred helped Rog on Car sometimes, Bri/Rog made up for Fred's voice giving out on SYW in Chicago '78. Great teamwork!
@aweafe As for their respective musicianship - their styles developed as they aged. Brian, particularly had health issues which affected his playing. He HATED the chord runs on Bohemian Rhapsody - which he claimed strained the tendons in his arm. If you notice today, Brian always plays with a "protective sleeve" on his right arm.
btw - Julie Andrews suffered from the same problem, opted for surgery to remove the nodes, with the result being losing the tone and quality of her voice, hence Freddy refused to undergo a similar procedure to remove the nodes from his vocal chords.
@aweafe Freddy developed nodes on his vocal chords - which affected his range. In an effort to not strain his voice, he would no longer use the full range of his voice in concert (with few exceptions). He would still use his full range in the studio.
If that is not versatility, then I don't know what is. I still don't believe there has ever been a rock band as fluid as Queen, before or since. Seriously, they seem like the type of band that would have been successful in ANY era of music. That is just beyond talent. It's why they're so enduring and universally appealing.
OMG!!! This is amazing!!!! Thank you for this video!! Their concert at Earl's Court '77 has been my ultimate favourite, but I'm starting to love this live as well!
As if having the best singer in the world wasn't enough, Queen reminds us in this performance that they also had the second best singer in the world, one of the best guitarist, one of the best drummers and one of the best bassists ever.
And who said Eddy Van Halen invented hammer on's and pull off's? Brian May was doing it while Eddy was still learning piano. Go Brian May. Way better and more musically versed! Cliff.
@1Stu1Man What the hell does that have to do with MY comment. All I said was Jeff Beck was doing it before anyone......and that includes Hendrix. While Hendrix WAS amazing, Jeff Beck was the big time name that was doing most of this stuff before anyone. I know there may have been others before him or around the same time that were doing hammer ons and pull offs and tapping, but they were not household names like Jeff Beck. I never said anything bad about Hendrix so your comment is misdirected.
@romeokid69 What does it have to do with anything? To demonstrate the main influences on Brian May. The Hendrix part is part of the reason May and Mercury (then known as Freddy Bulsara) became fast friends.
As for Beck "doing it" before anyone else - doing what? Beck's & Page's careers were parallel, and both were in the Yardbirds at the same time.
@1Stu1Man If you reaad further into my comment, you will see I was talking about hammer ons, pull offs and tapping. Yes I agree that their careers ran parallel. My point was that your original reply should have been directed at other people, not me.I never said anything about Hendrix good or bad. Your comment to me was misdirected and uneducated.
@1Stu1Man If your reply to me read something like "Jimi and Jimmy were also doing hammer ons and such at the same time", I would have understood. But your reply to me made it seem like I had something bad to say about Page or Hendrix and that just ain't the case. All I was saying was that while May was doing it before Van Halen, Beck was doing it a hell of a lot sooner. That's all I said. Had I bashed Page or Hendrix, your reply would hold water.
@romeokid69 There was nothing personal. As I pointed out, all I did was mention who BOTH Brian and Freddy CLAIMED AS THEIR BIGGEST INFLUENCES early in their careers: Page & Hendrix.
For some reason, you are taking that as an offense, which shows that you are the uneducated one, not I.
@1Stu1Man oh no! you better listen to romeokid, because he worked with Phil Kennemore! he knows his stuff! Lie number one. Two more lies.... "not" trolling my accounts and at what time wrestling Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels in WWF.
It was Queen 1978, 1982 and 1986 all of them in Stockholm. Don´t missunderstand me, I´m a huge Queen-fan, but I better believe you. As I said, I´m impressed!
@karloss22 this concert is edited, but NOT overdubbed. Some songs are cut and mixed together, but the backing vocals are not overdubbed. I have a concert from this tour, in Japan, and the vocals are as perfect as they are here. Only the songs are in their entire form, instead of mixed together, like Liar and Keep Yourself Alive.
I saw them on Wed 17th Apr - USA, Kansas City, Memorial Hall. Did not really know much about them. I liked Mott the Hopple. and they were the support act for Mott. I became a fan immediately of Queen.
Lap of the Gods sounds hollow without the chorus. But you can hear the instruments. Queen not being perfect. This is awesome. Pre A Night at the Opera Queen.
In the lap of the gods queen sounds like stairway to heaven led zeppelin and omg brian was so fucking genius he cant even better to his guitar sound like a slidguitar that he use from tie your mother down but this solo he use his whammy bar or tremolo bar nice sound dr brian may wow your so genius fuck i cant belive it gracias .
yeap I thin Queen, Pink FLoyd and Deep purple are the few bands that sounds better live, and can readapt their songs to the stage and make it sound huge
Today I think only Muse can be declared as continue of Queen-styled symphonic music which is really RARE these days of polished radio-friendly pop songs and silly image onstage
Yeah, maybe cuz they have different styles of music, but dont EVER compare them! if you look at the skills of this band, atleast 100 come before Muse after Queen. (ofc Queen is number one)
I'm not comparing! All I wanted to say that only these guys (and Miko probably), they have attitude to their music as Queen had, to make musical things huge not just only 4/4 pop songs and etc, only.
In the way Queen had it - Wide music range, diffently vocalized, symphonic, pianos, guitars etc :)
yeah, probably, i dont know them well enough tot ell, but if its so, I like it :) And thats what makes Queen so good. And ofc the skills of the members
A band like Queen would not even get a record deal today...and that's what's wrong with "music" today...the kind of talent you see on this vid from Queen, wouldn't get a chance to be heard..because it's good!.record companies today would rather have you listen to cookie cutter, American Idol, generic shit...because they can categorize it easily...I categorize it as a waste of fucking time...Band's that write, perform and play their own music well, are pretty much extinct..Freddie we miss you man
Man! Roger's vocals on ITLOTG were spot on to the album! And BBTLB was glorious! No wonder Freddie didn't sing during that, it's hard enough to play! How dedicated is Brian to switch out for the ukelele mid-show and still rock!
Queen needs to get back out on stage! Even if Deacy won't get out there and Rodgers left, they need another singer. I'd pay just to see Brian and Roger out there by themselves!
For those of you, like me, who do not care for abbreviations - the songs referenced above are "In The Lap Of The Gods" and "Bring Back That Leroy Brown". There...that looks so much better doesn't it?
..and the Queen Rainbow conspiracy continues. You should remember that the concert that you see here was edited together from two separate nights. Was it a bad editing job? Maybe. As for how good Roger sounds? I don't know, maybe he had a good night? Until I find out for sure that Queen did do playback during this concert then anyone in the world can say anthing, and that's not good enough for me, considering what's out there. Maybe Roger was that good, that night?
For what it's worth I have a bootleg of this concert and Roger sounds exactly like he does on this video. Maybe he did have a good night as I've seen Queen live on more than 30 occasions (right back to supporting Mott the hoople) and never heard him sound so good.
Lucky, lucky, lucky! Freddie died when I was 8 months old; I wish I'd been able to see them back in the day! I haven't even seen Q+PR! I'd give almost anything to see Q+whoever wants to sing with them!

Queen's albums were good (at least I like them) up till 1980 and live they were awesome up till 1982. After that Freddie started to show his age. I like The Miracle Album and Innuendo.
ur on a Queen video page.. with a fabulous Queen performance.. and ur sayin Queen was "good"?.. u r among the fanatics.. so.. if u think they were just good than keep ur retarded opinion to urself.. and Hot Space was GREAT album.. just because it wasnt one of their best.. Freddie showed his age?? plzz.. shut the fuck up.. and that goes the same to the dumbening.. now i know where he got his username from
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I'm a big queen fan and i heard something like 50 concerts of queen. And i defenately know that roger can't sing that well. I'm pretty sure the whole concert is heavily edited and that's why it sounds so perfect. Again, queen are one of my favourite, but if you want to listen real live performances of the 70s watch live in hammersmith 75, which is still amazing.
It's been said before ad infinitum but I'm afraid it's true, Queen lost their spark and originality for most of the 80's, maybe it was like Samson - they cut their hair (well except Brian) and lost their strength! hahahaha Still there is plenty of back catalogue for fans of either style - I'm just glad I have 5 brill albums, and 2 great ones before the 80's sloped in.
Wonderfull voices!

..and the Queen Rainbow conspiracy continues.

However, saying that, the memory can play tricks.

Lucky, lucky, lucky! Freddie died when I was 8 months old; I wish I'd been able to see them back in the day! I haven't even seen Q+PR! I'd give almost anything to see Q+whoever wants to sing with them!

@ClassicRockDVD Roger has a huge voice, just nothing compared to Freddie...

Oops, I mean albums up till 1980 were great, really unique, but mid 80s was good not as strong as 70s and 1980 game album.

Queen's albums were good (at least I like them) up till 1980 and live they were awesome up till 1982. After that Freddie started to show his age. I like The Miracle Album and Innuendo.

Even though i am a gigantic Queen fan, i despise "Hot Space"

Don't know why I get thumbs down for speaking out my opinion.
Hotspace was a disaster to be honest you are right. I like all their albums up till the game and Miracle, Innuendo.

Well, a few songs on The Game was good, but still i wish Queen still kept their creativity and uniqueness throughout the 80s and early 90s

ur on a Queen video page.. with a fabulous Queen performance.. and ur sayin Queen was "good"?.. u r among the fanatics.. so.. if u think they were just good than keep ur retarded opinion to urself.. and Hot Space was GREAT album.. just because it wasnt one of their best.. Freddie showed his age?? plzz.. shut the fuck up.. and that goes the same to the dumbening.. now i know where he got his username from

Hollywood Records needs to officially release this concert as a 2-disc CD and DVD/Blu-Ray instead of yet another 80's Queen concert or Greatest Hits!
