  • Whats the battery for

  • @cqammaz53 Off grid systems need batteries so that you can store power for when the sun goes down.

  • 17 amps! nice, im only getting 9.5A max. I cant wait to get my next panel and watch the Amps. climb. Greetings from sunny Jamaica.

  • @Lanny615 yeah its always exciting to make a panel and add it to the array and then run in the house to see how far it moved the needle on my 75 amp meter. I have high hopes of some day, I will be getting some place close to that 75 amp mark. Hee hee. Maybe when I get some wind energy it will.

  • I don't understand why your inverter won't power your fridge, most are 500W start/200W run. What size is the wire going to the inverter and what model is that inverter? Is it modified sine wave or pure sine wave?

  • @nrodge1 its welding cable plenty big about 2 gauge I think. The Xantrax is suppose run 2000 continuous. I think the surge is 3,000 Its suppose to run a very small dorm fridge. It can barely run my 850 watt microwave. I am going to get a bigger inverter. But it will run the tv, satellite and lamp all day and all night. The tv is about 80 watts and the satellite is about 60 watts and the lamp is about 12 watts. Maybe the inverter is damaged but I think it just dont have enough ump.

  • @nrodge1 I found out it might be the the cables to the inverter were too small but this particular inverter is only suppose to start up a dorm size fridge some where I read about it in the description for this particular inverter. I hooked this inverter up to a old battery I have in my bedroom but the old battery couldn't make enough voltage.

  • NIce batteries. How long do you think the yellow top will last with average use?

  • @wtam69 I have been told up to ten years. They can actually set around for a year with out a charge and still be charged in the same state they were when left to set. I like them because they don't give off hydrogen gas and they never corrode. Also they charge up faster than flooded batteries. If a hole is punctured in them they will not leak because they have a fiberglass matting. The only thing I dislike is that they don't have a real high discharge rate and they are really expensive.

  • @shartne Great. I like to buy the diy stuff from big box stores but the ones I go to don't sell golf cart batteries or the yellow top Optima. I remember years ago this old timer had the same auto battery in his Chevy for 10 years. I don't understand why modern marine batteries aren't even supposed to last more than three years or so.
