There IS a political party which embraces 'hippy' ideals. The Green Party call for an end to prohibition of weed etc, for peace and nuclear disarmament, for social and environmental justice.  Vote Green! :)

The Vietnam War started before the hippy revolution, not during. The war strengthened the movement by turning people against the government.

The hippies did not 'fail'. Do we still live in the institutionally racist, sexist, homophobic and prude 1950s? No, thanks to the 'hippies'! :)

still I don't think the message of the song is 'the hippy movement failed'. It's message is well intentioned and it's a great song. I don't see why people thumbs you down, but what you said is pretty true. It's important for us not to let our pride get in the way when we're corrected, we make mistakes, thanks for the comments - lets listen to the message : )
