  • sang this in a choir a long time ago and the sopranos kept forgetting to come in at the beginning because the oboe is so beautiful - this is what I imagine heaven will sound like :)

  • The oboe solo at the beginning and throughout the movement is completely ethereal. Exquisite.

  • wow, nice.

  • i heard that in some movies , am i right?

i make me feel like raising my soul or say my soul is raising automatically

  • Four people were clearly too indulged in the beautiful music to know what button they were clicking.

  • Absolutely beautiful. Singing this piece at Leeds Town Hall on Sat. 9th July with our choir, Inspiration. Don't know how I will go on. Everytime I try to sing these words I cry.

  • Where's the "LOVE" button when you need it?

  • Simply brilliant, John Rutter is an amazing composer of real worship music. Bless you!

  • well done!

  • Beautifully done! Absolutely wonderful

  • Well, time to pull out my sheet music and violin lol. I almost forgot how beautiful this requiem is.

  • I'm currently playing the accompanyment to this piece, but don't listen to a lot of requiems. Can anybody explain why some movements are sung in English, and others in Latin? (I think those are the languages)

  • @violaluv4ever

latin parts are parts of original cristian mass (kyrie etc) and cannot be left out; some parts are english, and those are psalms, those are not oblicatory parts, i guess he just prefered them in his language

  • @tomkobe58 Thanks, that makes a LOT more sense now :)

  • i love the Requiem..........sung it in high school...thanks mr. allen bethea!

  • i love the Requiem..........sung it in high school...thanks mr. allen bethea!

  • Viva, Sandnes kulturskolekor ("vivasandnes" on youtube) sing the psalm with the same title, but written by Henry Smart/W:S:Passmore.

    Quite different, but equally beautiful...

  • Viva sings the psalm with the same title, but written by Henry Smart/W:S:Passmore

  • ^^das war das lied, was ich am wenigsten mocht :D

aber es hört sich ganz nett an, wenn man sich darauf einlässt =)

  • Does anyone know the name of this oboe player? Fabulous musician!

  • es ist schon das solch eine musik zu hören ist

  • I'm not religious at all, but when I hear this piece I get so emotional! It's SO beautiful!

  • As close to Heaven as I'll ever get!

  • Magnificant!

  • Esto lo vamos a cantar en el casamiento de Ayelen con el maestro Di Mario como director. Asi que a estudiar.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i remember this song the best!! i sang the whole requiem peice by john Rutter in high school at Christian Brothers!!

  • Oboe player is great!

  • The oboe player is as good as I have heard on this piece. Great job!

~Natalie, the high school music teacher

  • I've sung this too - with John Rutter himself in the audience!

  • That concert was on April 18, 1999. Two days later, on April 20, 1999, the massacre at Columbine High School happened. I stood there watching the news with the Rutter Requiem going through my head. Later that night, I went into a practice room and bawled like a baby.

  • I also had the privilege of singing the Rutter Requiem in college, back in 1999. I hated it while we were practicing it, but when the musicians and the community choir came together with us to perform it, I started to like it. The conductor was conducting it in memory of a friend of his who had passed not long before. For me, though, I had nothing emotional on which I could hang the Requiem.

  • i love the requiem we did it in chior and this is my fav. piece next to out of the deep.

  • i sang this shit!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ Mimi42fulable Na verdade você e a merda que cantou isso. Que pena!

  • The voice is so pure!

  • oboe dide is hot

  • The oboe is amazing!

  • Was the video or did it seem that the whole choir was kinda 'trebley' through the whole song? AMAZING Oboe though.

  • So beautiful! I was playing some hours ago. I played the oboes part on my violin. I

did know this piece untill now!

    Amazing!

  • One of my favourite movements from this exquisite requiem mass. I had the privilege of singing it at Derby Cathedral with John Rutter conducting. One of the best days of my life. I get emotional just thinking about it, and I don't even believe in God!

  • I performed the entire Requiem by Rutter at a Church as a Violinist with a Full Orchestra and Choir on Good Friday 2002, and it was the best Good Friday Service I ever participated in!

Watching this video brings back many wonderful memories! This is my favorite piece from the Requiem and it inspires me every time I play or listen to it!

Thank you for sharing this video with us.

  • The most beautiful piece of music I've ever heard. I cry every time I listen to it.
