Compared to us school lunches it is baffling how bad the lunches are in the US. We need to take up the french approach to school lunches. How many adults even eat this well! Of course, I hope Americans realize that this is the *law* there. Americans would need to accept that they need to either feed their children at home OR accept the government imposed lunch. I lived as a child in Paris, however, I went to International School. But, during school vacations and summer, I went to a Poney Club stage (French for camp) and they served lunches just like this there. I ate, spoke, and became French by culture! I loved it!!!
You know why they called pizza a vegetable,, to save money. Instead of just getting the children the right amount of fruit /day they insisted that the tomato sauce in the pizza were a fruit, therefore they didn't have to put more money into school. Them americans

The French are so right when it comes to food. Americans do gobble up their food. Students have only 25 minutes to eat, socialize and use their cell phones (no cell phone during class). Therefore the students gobble. I remember the food that use to come in the cafeteria some well 40 years ago. I couldn't wait to eat- homemade noodles and yeast rolls, and roast beef. Why? Mom's cooked their recipes. Now..it's all cheap, lean crusine type food paid by the district.

French children are as fucking snobby as their parents. Fuck these three year olds and their fancy foods, I'm feeding my AMERICAN children FREEDOM fries, and CHEESE burgers.
Round tables for interaction rather than institutional benches.. Small plates rather than plastic trays. Water to drink. Fresh, handmade food. Almost as if they are raising children to be adults rather than just putting them somewhere while their parents slave to pay the government.

Although it is, naturally, the foods that are provided that make the largest difference, we should also look at the time allowed the pupils are scheduled for taking lunch.

Round tables for interaction rather than institutional benches.. Small plates rather than plastic trays. Water to drink. Fresh, handmade food. Almost as if they are raising children to be adults rather than just putting them somewhere while their parents slave to pay the government.

That's an amazing lunch, and we're talking for three year olds! I wish food education was better here in America, where kids just eat whatever crap they can because it's fast and cheap (it happened to me when I first moved here) and schools choose the cheapest alternatives so they can line their pockets with money.

If we would server up this cuisine I don't think you would have to ask parents to leave the brown bag at home. They would flock to this.. But I can guarantee that the lunch program they have in mind here in America, The brown bag is still the best choice... Why does America have to FORCE its ideas on us? Because THEY SUCK !!!! Learn America we are falling way behind the rest of the world.. Corporate Greed has ruined us....

If they can feed their students this wonderful food for as little as $2 a day, then why the hell can't American schools adopt the same program? The government says they care so much about childhood obesity, but they feel that force feeding the kids what they are claiming is 'healthy' is what is best.

@neo1nicole Because the French understand the whole reality of food as an experience, while in America it is only regarded as a commodity, something to make money on. You'd never catch a bureaucrat who's working out a school lunch budget including considerations like flavor and pleasure and "sharing with your friends" - in other words, conviviality - in his calculations. It's no wonder we have the fucked-up attitudes to food we do, thinking like that.

Although it is, naturally, the foods that are provided that make the largest difference, we should also look at the time allowed the pupils are scheduled for taking lunch.

At least I see healthy veggies, though they look a bit overdone...but must they fry broccoli. I like to see that they cook fresh food, not frozen, canned, processed. Lessons can be learned for our overweight american kids.
