May i please ask who are you sending your works in order to be published/copyrighted, Capricornboy? I have written some pieces myself, as well as Organ arrangements and i haven't yet located someone/a company willing to copyright/publish them. Thank you in advance and glad to meet you :).
That sumbitch can wail! i wonder what Keith Emerson would sound like on it. Or Rick Wakeman. Or the guy who played for "Yes". Was it tony Banks? Or that lady who appears on TV with the Christian network. i'll bet they could really rattle the walls....
Both are large organs, St. Johns is a larger building, and both are different types of organs, I believe St. John the Divine has an Aeoline Skinner, and St. Patricks is or was a Kilgen both are around a hundred ranks give or take, although from what I've noticed the St. Patricks organ sounds larger because it has less space to fill. Both have excellent acoustics.
If interested in the truth, search youtube for "Real historical Patrick by Richard Bennett" an ex Priest who tells his story of how he discovered the real historical Patrick. Patrick was the son of a deacon and grandson of a Presbyter in the British/Celtic Church. The Celtic Churches were in existence centuries before the 4th century papal church. Rome usurped the Celtic Church (Patrick's congregation) in a bull dated 1155AD and rented Ireland to the English RC King. Known as Peter's penny.
Curiously 1 year ago today (october 9th 2007) my wife and I were in NYC, we had to run for shelter from a massive rain storm in the late evening, St Patricks was the nearest...inside we were met with an organ recital practice and I swear to god it was the most moving experience....the sound of the organ, the sheer size and *power* of the architecture inside moved us both almost to tears. I googled organ st patricks just there and foujhd this - awesome !
Wow almost the same thing happened to me in Boston a few years ago, there was a big rain storm and we ran into Trinity Church, and would you know it, there somebody practicing on the organ!
It would have been a little better if you had been nearer to the gallery organ. And all the organists and St. Patrick's are highly qualified for the job. The organ itself is tuned every Thursday by the Peragallo organ company. (This would've been better if the organist had used the 32' Bombarde
St Pats has 3 organists. Jenifer Pascuale is the Director of Music, and plays the organ a lot, but Donald Dumler is the Principal Organist, and Stanley Cox is Associate. So it could be any number of people. Before we make judgement, one should first know the scruples of New York City church music jobs. The churches covet their organs quite a bit, and often the musicians don't get to practice until after 8PM, when all of the tourist activity is completely done.
most people who even know the slightest about music will agree that the organist actually sounds very good. Many of the comments from people on here are from ignorant idiots
capricornboy, i dont supose that you know much of organ music yourself and if you do, then Im guessin you are quite an imature organist. I dont supose you will have many people wanting to play at their wedding. This organist is bound to be rather good if he is playing at St Patricks Cathedral. Think before you bloody speak and stop making rediculous comments
I see no reason to use such language. Couldn't you respond with a valuable comment. Comments like tis do not represent either good intellect or any attempt to communicate youe ideas
When you can play this improvisation the same way, while earning multiple degrees, then I will respect your comment. I just returned from the American GUild of Organist Convention in NYC, and this is only a fortaste of the voice of God.
You are hearing a snipit of music, The Audio quality (not the organ) is not capable of dealing with an organ from that position in thebuilding. The organists of St. P. are highly qualified concert & recording organists. Consider the condition of the recording before criticising the performer.

I love that Cathedral. Behind the altar they have adoration of the blessed sacrament...you see mother Theresa's nuns back there praying sometimes.

Stanley H. Cox, and Jennifer Pascuale are very talented musicians. I cannot say as to the other organists.

Dr. Donald Dumler, the principal organist, is a fantastic musician and wonderful man, who has been very gracious to myself and others I know.

I totally agree-- if you don't watch the video but just listen, there is nothing wrong with this person's playing.
