hey dude i hate to be a burden, because there seems to be little info about this machine, is it midi ? can you use it for logic/fl/reason etc and does it have quite a few preset sounds ? thanks :)
Is it the E12 hi hat that is making the roll possible at around :52? Really great vid, learned alot, thanks - just got an UW mkII a few days ago and am really having a blast.
this is the ultimate stay-up-all-night drum machine. yeah it has reverb, delay, and a global compressor and eq. I love the way you NEVER (for saving/loading) have to stop a SPS-1.
usually when u see gear demos on youtube they suck soo bad but it seems everyone intellegent enough to purchase a machine drum is also good at making tracks.
@elextrixtechnixtree. There are two kinds of Machinedrum: the SPS-1 and the SPS-1UW (which is the one in this video). The SPS-1UW have a 12-bit sampling engine for those old school gritty percussion samples. The internal sampling memory is 2.5 mb which doesn't sound a lot, but keep in mind this is a drum machine and not a sampler. Check out of brand new Machinedrum (and Monomachine) videos here on youtube
You can tell by the frame around the LCD display that this is a UW version. A standard SPS-1's LCD frame is all black instead of the black and white gradient.
I don't hear anything added at 2:16? The bass rift gets added around 1:15, he just manipulates the filters at 2:10. The machine does have some synth capabilities, but its synthesis capabilities are more oriented towards percussion sounds. Most of the tonal elements (bass, echoing sound, chord stabs) are almost definitely samples.
How do you get it to to the quick drum roll type sound starting at 0:53? Im thinking about buying one of these and I want to be able to program in plastikman-style drums.
Is it the swing function? Ive read a bit about it but alas I do not have one of the machines so it is hard to know for sure
He's using a parameter lock on that step. Watch again, you'll see him hold one of the drum buttons and twist a knob. The Machinedrum saves that edit on that step. As for which effect, I'm not really sure, but there aren't many effects per sound. Might be an LFO or an extended decay. AFAIK, there's no "drum roll" effect on the MD.

Which model MachinedRum is this? Is this a UW version? I can't tell if the non-drum sounds are internal sounds or if you sampled them in?

So that synth at 4.30 or so is that something that comes in the machinedrum? Cheers.

funny, the bass drum in the break from 4:48 to 5:03 sounds 10 times better than the main bass drum?

Tip:
Get some Painter's Tape.
That ivory white paper-like tape.
Just tape it from left to right and cut it off with a sharp, surgical knife (stanley-knife)
Looks way beter ;) (ithink)
Also take a look at my movies. You can see how i did it on my mixer.
Great movie btw, nice tune and good way of programming.
I used to have a Monomachine. Same type of sequencing!

Nice. Your videos are really making me itch for the arrival of my MD uw mkI. I don't think i've seen such an interactive drum machine. Can't wait =o]

really good this, at 2:16 is this a bass rift being added ? does it have any synth lead type sounds ? from the machine itself

the sps-1uw(mkII) has 2.5 MB sample memory.
the sps-1(mkII) has none.

Nice vid, I had no idea it could make such "synthy" sounds. Elektron should put this on their website instead of those crappy audio demos.
