One of the best GP i ever seen. I can't as much at nowdays F1.
1998 and 1999 are my favorite seasons. I love true tracks (where are gone san marino, argentinian gp, french gp and so on ? ...) true drivers ! (i miss ferntzen, irvine and many others, fuck hamilton, vettel alonso etc...)
@idiotsdream Axtually he didnt. He was treat like that incase there was an injury of sorts. But thankfully no injury and he continued again in Malaysia.
@Preston4eva12 You cant compare Brundle to legard, because legard is the lead commentator and brundle is color. But I agree that legard is crap, he got a bit better as his time went on, but when he first came to f1 he didnt have a clue what he was talking about. I thought murray was great, but now when i hear him, like legard, he tends to get alot of stuff wrong. Brundle is on the most respected people in f1 and is hugely influencial, he pretty much cost legard his job. Brundle knows his stuff.
@hadabenz I disagree, i think he was overrated, he had his chance at williams and he couldnt produce the goods, i think he was a solid driver, but certainly not spectacular. I can think over more underrated drivers, Alesi, Brundle, heidfeld ect ect...
@preston4eva12 What else do I have to bas my comment on? Martin Brundle is an incredibly experienced and respected commentator and participant in motor sport. He is one of the few that advocates a more exciting race over ridiculously stringent safety rules.
Eddie Irvine was a very good driver............shame he ain't around anymore he deserved better from Ferarri that year for sure.......Damon should of done better, this was not his year
I agree for Luca and Damon, he should have moved. Also, later in the race, Murray says Martini was the last Minardi point before Gene, but it was actually Lamy ,I think in 1995 or 1996.
Brundle tried to be smart and correct (wrongly) Walker that the car was a Sauber. What Walker had said that the car in the background thatt had stopped and wasn't upside down was a Benetton, so Brundle was wrong and Walker was right.
it's such a shame luca's gearbox had to fail, with thirteen laps to go, =( if only ferrari had made the correct decision, and replaced the then-injured schumacher with luca badoer. i can only imagine what could have been ...
but, don't worry, he got two races with ferrari this year. never mind he didn't know the car, and hadn't driven in a grands prix in ten years, and was clearly not up to standard. ferrari, you were ten years too late. now luca will never score a world championship point.
A great race. Thanks for posting it up. Eddie got short changed by the Ferrari pit crew!! Mika got lucky he didn't deserve the points at the end, he had gone to sleep for most of the race! Well done Johnny Herbert!!!
@hadabenz i agree with you, he was extreme quick but not VERY intelligent. He lost his chance in 1997 big time when he lost for his team mate and world champion that year jaques villeneuve.
@schopfheim91 I heard in Road & Track magazine's review of the 1999 F1 season, in the section that covered this race, that two cars were actually out of their proper grid positions. It did not say which two, nor did it mention Gene stalling his car. Of course, with the video not saying so, it's hard to tell.
It's happened many times just usually people get cautions and sanctions, in the 2000 Season I think it was 1999, Hakinnen jumped the start by a tiny margin and was later penalized, the lights still went out!
I remember watching this and recall correctly, two of the drivers, one being Gene, formed on the grid in the wrong place so they had to restart the race. Don't think it's happened since.
Diniz was such a talented driver but he never had a superb machine to show off his talent...or he was always number 2 driver to experience drivers or world champions
But Diniz was Alesi's team mate at sauber(correct me if im wrong) and was never a match for him. Klien could easily match David Coulthard who won races.
Yes Australia do use the feed from the ITV (Martin Brundle and James Allen). It use to be on Channel 9 but in 2004 i think, Channel 10 bought the rights
well thats not mentioned in the starters profile as a starter its part of his job to force them to leap off the line
