We have a wonderful ESS named Hendrix. He came to us via a rescue - he was given up due to some behavioral issues. Once he was neutered, the changes began immediately...and after lots of love & positive reinforcement, he's turned out to be a absolute delight! I'd heard that ESS tend to be high energy, but our Hendrix is a very low-key kind of fellow. He's also incredibly sensitive to the moods of his people...if I get the least bit upset, he's right there to calm me down. ESS are the BEST!!!!
Attitude two...? More like 5/5, Springers are unique in how they act and they are very intelligent. They are pretty naughty as well! They are pretty keen on food.
The assessment ratings at the end are totally bogus. Two stars for "attitude"? How the hell do you measure attitude? Because one dog in a thousand gets rage syndrome? And "protection"? Who on earth buys an English Springer for protection?! Shouldn't they be rating intelligence, trainability, or energy level in a dog like an English Springer?
1:57 OMG it looks just like my pup cooper! these dogs are amazing, and when they do get hurt, it doesnt even bother them. cooper tore a ligament in his leg, but before we knew what it was, he could barely walk yet still swam and after his surgery, no matter how hard you try, he would not rest! i love these dogs sooo much!
I just get a springer and she is really cute, but quite agressive for her 2 months. She byte a lot. I don't know if it's cause she is small or it's related with this rage syndrome.I had cocker spaniel for 16 years and she was such a lovely dog,as puppy aswell as grown up , I didn't expect something like this to happen.
@kadaj1983 it's not rage, they teeth for a looooooong time and will put anything in their mouths. i have a 6 month old and he is just now calming down when it comes to chewing. you shouldn't worry about her chewing or biting too much, just make sure you give her something healthy to chew on so she can teeth, i recommend a big rawhide 'bone', just be aware that you'll go through a ton of them. rage doesn't pronounce itself until the dog is at least a year old. she's just a toddler!
@jodycolleen Oh, she's got like tones of them.A bone ,a ball, a rope toy.You name it.And still she bite walls, chairs ..my legs.I really hope it's just cause of the theeth.Cause again, i had another dog and she didn't bite me at all ,even when she had the same problem. Ofcaurse i know that they have different characters, but i was hoping that i will have the same luck now .Anyway, despite that she is incredibly interesting to look at. Really cute and amazinglly full of energy.
how common is this 'Rage syndrome'? i am plannin to get two springers, but i have children and i wouldn't want them to get hurt. Any information will help, thanks.
@marko50081367 I have a springer (ironically his name is Max) and he is a really sweet dog. he's 4 years old and so far there have been no problems. i think they're great dogs for kids because you can pull his tail or grab his ears and he won't bite. they're very nice dogs and are ALWAYS happy to see you. i've known lots of springers and none of them have rage syndrome. Hope this helps!
All of our field and showbench English Springers were very mellow but our Jimbo I and current Jimbo II are the mellowest boys! A house is made a home by a Springer. All are the best friends and protection!
that isn't a brittany it's a springer, it's just a differn't type it's a Field type the one they use for hunting, and to Flush out game. There is also another type called the bench type it is more thicker boned and is more heavier then the Field type dog. They also use the bench type for showing.
what are you going on about :s. someone mentioned the brittany but spelt it wrong so I just corrected them by replying the actually spelling. I know its a springer because
1. Ive got one
2. it says ''English Springer Spaniel'' incase you didnt notice
Also whats the point in trying to give info on Springers, when youve basically just copied everything he has said on this video, youve seen i can write in English, so surely I can understand the video
I love my springers Bacci and Atti. Just a work of advice for potential owners, THEY ARE HYPER. No ifs ands or buts. They are great loyal dogs. Our dog Atti instinctively knows thats during dinner she will run into our yard and bring bacci inside to eat. Smart, fun, and extremely outgoing dogs.
Have owned 2 field springers and 4 show bench springers. Enjoyed your video. We had one springer with a very rare form of fatty tissue cancer develop despite his being always on a very lowfat diet. He lived til 15 years. Really loved him like you love yours!!! Great video!!!!
My family and I have exclusively had springers. Awesome dogs and quite calm despite people's perceptions. We did have one that had springer rage, who would attack out of nowhere. Reputible breeder just got unlucky. All the other springers we had lived to be over 14.
I have a springer and he is an awesome dog, very lovable. also though I find that he is quite needy,,, I have no idea what springer fever is. I hope he doesnt have it, he is very friendly, but he also has major seperation anxiety.
does anyone know about this unprovoked rage syndrome found in this breed, I really like these dogs but I wouldn't want a dog who became suddenly violent...
@FARISM13 No there is no test for "rage syndrome" alot of the time it is not even diagnosed correctly. alot of people let them get away with murder and then try correcting the behaviors too harshly and end up getting bit doing it...automatically its labeled as "rage". Rage is NOT a behavioral condition it is a from of epilepsy, small seizures which affect the nervous system and affect the dogs behavior, they can not help it and it is not at all intentional.
i have two, and they're both great they are proper working dogs and love flushing phesants in season! they are a smart and intelligent breed but they do need a lot of walks etc cos they are always full with energy!

Is it genetic? Can it be tested on the parents?

if you get a pup from a reputible breeder, there should be no problem.
