Eschenbach was a good pianist. As a conductor, he is not good at all and most orchestras are unhappy to perform under him. But he has 'connections' and power, so...he is there.
Notice that he is a rather good actor as well, trying hard to hide his flamboyant homosexuality in this interview. Even his voice is different! He was famous as a very gay person when he was young, now he tries to pretend he is 'masculine'... Ridiculous!
oh my, you seem to have something against homosexuality! and you feel you have an omniscient eye, and can tell he is "pretending" to be what you call "masculine" . hm. one wonders what your problem is. obviously something dire. you poor thing.

Eschenbach is a great musician and a great human being. If he is gay, he's gay like Dumbledore's gay. Really he's married to his music.
This is a great interview. The fact that he is giving this interview at J+R shows what a wonderful ambassador of music he is. Ignore the music background and enjoy Eschenbach's thoughtful responses!
I have some of his Mozart Piano sonatas on Deutche Grammophon. He's a great pianist. Reminds me of Ben Kinsley.

I had a good laugh today. Thanks for your 'reply',,,and for misunderstanding me so much.
Eschenbach is just an old queen...and a very mediocre conductor.
Is he really 'that' important to you?
There are better musicians, younger and masculine, or even fems if you prefer!

This interview is extremely distasteful. From the questions, to the setting, to the sound editing it is sloppy and un-inspired.

the music in the backround, (or should I say his interview) really destroys this video.

That, to me, sounds like a fabulous orchestra practicing a fabulous piece.
