I watched the enire show on Nat Geo and I was just appauled at the idea that scientists are dedicating so much time to creating a livable planet instead of saving a dying one. I have always been opposed to space exploration because of its expense and relative productivity. But we just can't wait to destroy another planet or moon!!!! Redirecting astroids and rearranging planets?? Its sad how selfishness, curiosity, and greed make the world(and galaxy) go round.

We could be looking for the wrong things too. What if water is not necessary for all life. For instance every species on the planet needs oxygen to survive. What other life needs nitrogen or some other element. Any way i do believe and hope there is life out there. I twould be awfully sad if we really were alone.

in answer to your question i think its a distinct possibility, however, it could just as easily follow the path of the theory of 'de-evolution', i think its really just a guessing game but if we COULD colonise planets it would definetly help to have a positive effect, maybe we humans would stop killing each other for once?

Mars had to have life because if you look at it very closely it's northern and southern hemisphere almost have the same identical chemicals of ice and that means that many years back in 1200 who knows what type of species lived there but it may take generations for mars to have life which is sad because I would very like to explore there could be interesting.

I think it would cool to find water on other planets but how do we know that the elements that bring us life are the same that would bring life to other organisms. Just because life as we know it needs hydrogen, oxygen, ect. doesn't mean that other life form, if they exist, (which i do believe, it would be ignorant to think we are the only life in this fast universe) haven't adapted or even evolved from other elements. Some that we not even know exist. Just food for thought. take it or leave it

takes about 6months to get there if u leave at the best time wen earth n mars r lined up properly, n its insanely expensive to put weight n2 space.4every pound its like 10,000dollars.so they would need food2last the6month trip there, the 18months on the planet and 6months back to earth, thats alota food.so id b more efficiant if they could jus take small seeds n grow alot of their diet.

I agree to what some of the people here say. The universe is so huge and thinking that were alone is really a bit naive. Tendecy is some smart people get mad if they cant understand certain things or rather hide it from the public because they cant explain it yet. If people seriously think that out out millions of planets we are the only on that just happened to have life on it then they are very naive. I don't think there are any silly E.T looking 'aliens' out there but I definately think there is something. Maybe a species that can teach us more about helping the planet thrive rather than ripping through it lik a plague.

TerrysBeautifulAngel, i agree. the circumstances needed for life to be sustained are very rare, but given how extremly fucking huge the galaxy is, there is a good chance we are not alone. it's very likely that we could the most advanced, but chances are there is some sort bacteria, simple life, or even semi-sentient life somewhere else on one of the hundreds of billions of planets in just our galaxy.

if there is life on mars, we need to be careful that we don't give them smallpox or whatever other infection we might carry. like what happened to the native americans. If there is not life on mars, we need to hurry up and put some there.
