  • They were the house band at the Cinnamon Cinder for a while.

  • TNX for this old & young reality ;-)

  • Love this. It sounds a bit like the Hollies. Cool tune.

  • This is a great song.

  • More info:

    expo67-cavestones.blogspot.com/2009/11/roosters-you-gotta-run-interview-with.html

  • I really like this track. My hobby is to rediscover all those great bands from the 60s that didn´t "broke through". It´s a fantastic treasure. Listen (youtube) for example to:

THE ZETTLERS and their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah".

Really really good with a bloody driving beat.

THE GOLLIWOGS and the song "Tell me". Check up the singer...Yes, it´s him!!

  • ♪♪♪ one of these days....♪♪♪

  • Oh..., what you did to music back then, Roger "Jim" McGuinn! LOVE THIS! The Turtles' Let Me Be is another "jangly" tune. The sound of a Rickenbacher 12 -- THE signature sound of the mid-Sixties!

  • @mickeymousebiker1 Man, you nailed it Mickey, about Jim McGuinn and his 12 string Rick sound. I'll bet you dug this song as much as I did! God, I wish that sound would come back, but I'm not hopeful in this musical climate. And anybody else get the 60's vibe from looking at that metallic blue paint on the bass guitar at the start of the vid? It just "drips" the 60's. I probably painted a half-a-dozen of my model cars that color back then. Remember those tiny little square "Testor's" paints?

  • @WickedTornado I go "retro" a lot these days. 2011 has not been a banner year for me. I lost my wife on Nov. 21/22, 2010, and I'm still trying to live through it all. Yeah, I remember Testor's paints. I used them on the myriad models I built back in the 1960s. My fave models were The Munster Coach and Roth's creations (including Rat Fink). A Merry and Hopeful Christmas 2011 to ya!

  • @mickeymousebiker1 My first time back here in a month. Very very sorry to hear about your wife. I cannot imagine that pain. If it happens to me, I hope I can cope. Not sure if I could, honestly. Sincere wishes to getting healed as much as possible in this short time since you lost her.

On a happier note...the "Munster Coach"..haha! That was a hard one to build...lots of little parts. Man...time would stand still while I was deep off into building another model car. I liked the AMT brand.

  • @WickedTornado Many thanks regarding the death of the Darling of My Life -- My Barbra Rose. Barbra was 110% behind everything I did. She loved me unconditionally. She is still my one and only true love and will remain as such for all Eternity. Model building was a way for me to cope with the loss of my dad (in 1965). He was still a young guy. AMT had some great products back in the 1960s (including the starship Enterprise from the original Star Trek). Stay safe and well out there

  • I like the jangley guitars - nice sound.

  • sounds like the Byrds - nice

  • Great song!

  • Offense? Might you be of the American persuasion? Not that it matters, I (a nobody from Nowheresville) just wanted to say thank you for all these splendid songs.

  • I'm loving the images- loving the song! Loving your videos! Great discoveries...

  • sur quelle compilation GARAGE se trouvent les ROOSTERS ?

un PARIGOT peut il répondre à cette colle ?

    MERCI par avance .

  • @POPAVIDEO It was on a Nuggets compilation.

  • @POPAVIDEO also on Highs In The Mid Sixties Vol #2

  • c 'est un lorrain qui nous fit découvrir ce groupe ( entre BYRDS et HOLLIES ) .

    dANKE SCHONE .

n 'allez pas chez MINOUCHE ,elle est un peu rat pour les évaluations !

  • Who's the beautiful girl?

  • Who's the beautiful girl?

  • The only Roosters I ever heard of were the ones that did, "Chicken Hop" (on Felsted Records) about 6 or 7 years before this! That band was one that Herb Alpert put together before he created the Tijuana Brass.

When Chicken Hop first came out, it went nowhere FAST, until, one day, a D. J. accidentally played it at 33 instead of 45 and it became an INSTANT hit!!!!

Before this, he did a break-in record on Arch records called, "The Trial", by Herb B. Lou & The Legal Eagles.

  • The Byrds meet The Hollies

  • @jgsjapo1, VERYgood point. The 12-string guitar sound is fantastic.

  • You know one good thing about the internet is that it allows nearly extinct gems like this to proliferate. Vinyl is great but if not for some iPod apps and wifi I never would have discovered this! Thanks for posting.

  • Tim Ward now lives in a small town in arizona. He's still making music and plans to make several rarely heard & never heard songs available for download as well as some newer material. you can contact me at innerstatejt at gmail if you want more info. I'm Tim's son.

  • @innerstatejt Do you know what small town in Arizona?? I'm in Tucson, been here 50 yrs, maybe it's one of them that's near here.

I too love that Steven Stills-type 12 string. So many of those cats that we know as big names now could have been session guys on songs like this.

And to whomever said that "thanks" be to the internet for allowing little gems like this to survive was dead on. Great point. Joel in Tucson

  • Nothing like the sound of a 12 string guitar. How come you don't hear it no more.

  • Love this song! Great melody, hook, chorus!....

  • Love the jangly-12-string-and-harmonies sound -- along with the British bands, The Byrds had quite the impact on Sixties garage rock, particularly in Cali. Thanks for posting this little gem.

  • Great record. The Roosters were produced by Richard Podolor aka Richie Allen: Hondells, Sandy Nelson, Iron Butterfly, Blues Image, Three Dog Night, Steppenwolf (including Born To Be Wild). Podolor was the first record producer to receive a Platinum Record - for Three Dog Night's "Joy To The World". His brother, Don Podolor was my band's (The Bings) booking agent in the '80s.

  • Drill, baby, drill! Sarah Palin's chant ha ha ha...one of these days people are gonna listen to someone like her. Ha ha ha!

  • @Khultan Geez....can we please just enjoy this little corner of the internet without political rant?

  • @naderchaser Pipe down, I apologized for it.

  • @Khultan Opps, sorry.

  • Nice job.

  • pretty little guitar band song, that I never heard before - thanks for posting

  • What happened to T.Ward?

  • The only bio info I could find was in Fuzz, Acid, & Flowers. Sorry I could not find more info.

  • @garageband66 Try folk rock.

  • Guitars, guitars, guitars and 60s era music! No other way : )

  • Don't mean to put a negative vibe but I wish there are images of the band instead of this, but, hey, like I said, I don't mean to put a negative vibe.

  • No offense taken, it's just nothing is available.

  • @garageband66 I really do appreciate you all having uploaded the group, because I have never heard of them. Another new discovery for me that I'm enjoying about the 60s era.

  • @garageband66 so true rare stuff, nice job though

  • Tim, do you have a decent picture of the Roosters that you can share? Also, are there any Roosters interviews on the web?

  • T.Ward...Just stating that the final chord is a classic Hicks signature minor chord ending.

I love this song btw, and our band covers it.

    Where can we find more?

  • @kurskss Good, your still Playing, as a Group, I've become a bit of a reclouse, This song was Recorded by Richie Podlor, at American Studios in L.A. Great enginner this Tune Was Recorded on a 4 Track And reverb was set up in a Once Meat Locker freezer! but Sounded Great!!!!! at least back in 66. I rewrote the the words in this tune in 1991, in Santa Barbara, and did a rough cut with FF Flecther Bass player for the Roosters, and I was on the 12 string Rickenboker. Thanks for the Post!!!!

  • The final chord is classic Hollies..Tony Hicks ala 'So Lonely'

  • Nice EAR you have there. Not many pick up on that.

  • fucked up video, but i kinda dig it. i have this 45, it's on progressive sounds label, written by tim ward-whoever that is!

  • Thanks; I guess.

Tim Ward was in the band I believe but I can't say for sure for they only released two 45's.

  • I found something shortly after I posted. It's pretty grainy and I can't vouch for it's authenticity, but if you'll respond with an email address, I'll share what I have.

  • I'll respond in a personal message just drop a line.

  • Anyone got a photo of the Roosters?

    KF

  • I tried using my usual resources and came up dry. I'm sure someone has one out there.

  • All I know is that there's a couple of 45's they released in the mid 60's and some entries on compilations.

  • I would have said it was a Byrds B-side, at least until the middle eight which has sort of Beatles changes. I used to have a Telecaster like the one at 2:48. They run $8000 and up now.

  • Yeah, classic Telecasters are pricey. I had a "Badfinger" Ovation bass left-handed guitar in 72 that I paid (stacked several trailer loads of frozen turkeys for that)217.00 for and I shudder to wonder what it's worth now.

You have a good ear to pick up some George-like changes in the middle eight. So many of these garage bands were pressured to follow the greats of the day. Why not? It worked for many garage bands that made good.

  • Love it

  • This covers so many sounds from the 60's. You can hear elements of the Byrds, Moody Blues, Beatles, and others.
