@chivas4ev3r Actually the C6 Z is a hair faster than a stock FGT - they're basically even, but based on what I've heard from the owner of both, the C6 Z is just slightly faster up to around 160 when it shifts into 5th, then the FGT slowly pulls by. They are both incredible cars, I'd like to have both.

@BIGGREENLEAF1 Not sure where to start with that dumb comment but ah, we race for fun, no one cares who wins or loses - I knew I was most likely going to get pulled by the Vette but I also knew it would be a close race, but those are the most fun. The Z06 had ~450 RWHP - I had ~500 RWHP, that's about the outcome you can expect from that matchup, not to mention the belt slip on mine.

@03CobraRick Also I still stongly stick by comment about the kr500 mustang claiming it has 500+ hp when it clearly dosen't because if it did it wouldn't be running a 12.8 MT television and a 13.1 car and driver TV like it did, numbers like those would be in the 325 hp range. I'm also surprised GM resorted to a supercharger for the ZR-1 that is usually fords trick as it is the only way they know how to get any hp but I'll have to see how bad it is as I'm picking up my new ZR-1 on Thursday...
@BIGGREENLEAF1 The problem with the GT500 is that it's so heavy, it's terrible, ~3,920 lbs and only makes ~430-440 RWHP, which equates to about 500 BHP. A 12.8 is about right for that configuration. I think I've seen a few run in the 12.6 range stock, but +/- 2 or 3 tenths comes down to track prep, driver, weather conditions, etc.
@BIGGREENLEAF1 My friends 500 RWHP C6 Z (3,130 lbs) runs even with a ~660 RWHP GT500, the weight really kills it. The ZR1 is an awesome ride, they're running high 10's @ ~132 MPH, and has excellent handling/braking to go along with the straight line performance. The '08 Viper seems to have very similar performance, would be a good run, although they aren't as friendly for daily driving/gas mileage.
@03CobraRick I think it was on car and driver that I saw the kr500 run a 13.1 quarter and they were saying it was the weight and skinny tires that caused the problem, no matter what the problem then guys who buy it will feel ripped off because the same 500hp ZO6 will run circles around it probably for the reasons we both just mentioned. I test drove a viper a few years ago and it was harder to get in and out of then a C4 vette.

That Cobra sounded horrible. Needs a tune...BAD! And or belt slipping. Was out of boost a lot. Not taking anything from the Z06's though..they are badass!
Yeah that's my Cobra - the tune was fine but the belt slipping was not. I had just had the blower ported and the shop that did the re-install of the blower did not fully burp the engine coolant - so it had air pockets in it. It'd spit coolant out from the radiator cap when running through the gears - did not know that was the cause of it at the time of these races, found out a day or two later. It was soaking the belt.
Yea neither did we, that's why we were surprised when he started pulling us like that, and thought he was spraying. Then we pulled over and he let us in on the secret and showed us the turbo's, pretty small and very well hidden, can hardly see them even when looking for them, it's an awesome setup. It did in fact have the twin turbo package on it.

Yo I cant hate on the 03 04 cobra setups, those fukrs are fast, my 96 Z28 stock, vs my buddies 04 intake and exhaust cobra would always be me pullin on him till 3rd gear then he'd kill me from then on... Admittingly it could be the fact that I can launch better than he can but after shifts he doesnt catch me till mid 3rd... Those are some sick runs but that 02 vette was just killin the 06 I love it when people complain that they lost to someone spraying when their car is just built better.
We weren't complaining that the C5 Z was pulling away from the C6 Z, we were just surprised at how hard he pulled after that certain speed. We had a feeling he had something up his sleeve, but we weren't sure what it was - he's our friend, so it wasn't like anyone was "out to show the other one up".

No, it would help if the coolant wasn't spraying out of the radiator overfill tank cap and all over my engine compartment, soaking the belt. That made it slip. I wasn't aware of the problem until after the races and I was reviewing the video. It had air pockets in the coolant, burped it properly and it's no longer an issue, no more slip. Cog belts will break stuff, a tight belt does just fine so long as it isn't soaking wet.
Yeah that belt was f'ed - the shop that did my blower swap (when I had it ported) didn't fully burp the engine coolant after they reinstalled the blower, so the air pockets in the coolant caused it to spew out of the radiator overflow tank cap and all over the engine bay, soaking the belt, really cool huh.
Do you realize the Lingenfelter stayed in 4th gear the entire race? We were in 2nd gear in the Z06 - the fact that he was able to not only keep up, but rocket ahead is an indication of just how much power he has (~615 RWHP). It's the Stage II Lingenfelter package using a built 346 c.i., not the 800+ HP 427 kit.

I slam modded and stock Cobras all the time here in the Ft. Whats even funnier is that before the S/C Cobra, Chevy need 70 more cubic inches to outrun the Fords. Example Ford 281 vs Chevy 350. As for the new $40,000 Challenger SRT8 with its 425hp engine it would come down to a driver's race with a $30,000 Mustang GT with 300hp and wouldn't touch a Shelby GT500. 03-04 Cobras are about $20-25K and the new gt500's are in the low $50K's and there mods are way cheaper($1-2K) and garage friendly. I don't wanna spend $10K(mostly labor lol) to add 100hp from my Z06, plus the already $75-80K sticker price!!

i own a 2007 Z06, and have a friend withe the new shelby gt500. his IS easier to mod, but still doesn't compare to the vette. vette is americas longest running sports car for a reason. just wait until the new zr-1 hits the street, it will be just as easy to mod as anything else that is blown, or turbo'd. ;) then lookout.

Well, I really dont think these guys will be racing curves. I've never raced curves in my life? most of the racing is done how you see it in this video. Plus, there's a lot of suspension aftermarket parts for those Cobras;) You can make them handle curves just as good as a vette and you would still be way low for what you pay for a vette. Lingenfelter knows how to build GM's.
They have the fastest production 'vette on record with a 1.92 sec. 0-60 on DR's with one of their TT models, I believe it puts out well over 800hp.

It'd spit coolant out from the radiator cap when running through the gears - did not know that was the cause of it at the time of these races, found out a day or two later. It was soaking the belt.

Yea neither did we, that's why we were surprised when he started pulling us like that, and thought he was spraying. Then we pulled over and he let us in on the secret and showed us the turbo's, pretty small and very well hidden, can hardly see them even when looking for them, it's an awesome setup. It did in fact have the twin turbo package on it.

Neither did we, that's why we thought he was spraying. However when we pulled over he showed us the turbo's, relatively small and very well hidden, we couldn't believe how quiet they were. It's an excellent setup. He said it's been 10.48 @ 134 @ 10.5 PSI and 10.32 @ 136 on 12.5 PSI.

Yo I cant hate on the 03 04 cobra setups, those fukrs are fast, my 96 Z28 stock, vs my buddies 04 intake and exhaust cobra would always be me pullin on him till 3rd gear then he'd kill me from then on... Admittingly it could be the fact that I can launch better than he can but after shifts he doesnt catch me till mid 3rd... Those are some sick runs but that 02 vette was just killin the 06 I love it when people complain that they lost to someone spraying when their car is just built better.

We weren't complaining that the C5 Z was pulling away from the C6 Z, we were just surprised at how hard he pulled after that certain speed. We had a feeling he had something up his sleeve, but we weren't sure what it was - he's our friend, so it wasn't like anyone was "out to show the other one up".

I understood ur all buddies n all but like some of the comments on here and man I got told that I was spraying cause I had a "factory freak" or base model z28 no electronics weighing me down and it was a coupe not the heavier t-top. So it was funny seeing people tellin me they could kill me then watch them sit around my rear tires the whole race, or watch hondas get pissed cause my stock 285hp was too much for their built hondas lol.

No, it would help if the coolant wasn't spraying out of the radiator overfill tank cap and all over my engine compartment, soaking the belt. That made it slip. I wasn't aware of the problem until after the races and I was reviewing the video. It had air pockets in the coolant, burped it properly and it's no longer an issue, no more slip. Cog belts will break stuff, a tight belt does just fine so long as it isn't soaking wet.

Yeah that belt was f'ed - the shop that did my blower swap (when I had it ported) didn't fully burp the engine coolant after they reinstalled the blower, so the air pockets in the coolant caused it to spew out of the radiator overflow tank cap and all over the engine bay, soaking the belt, really cool huh.

Do you realize the Lingenfelter stayed in 4th gear the entire race? We were in 2nd gear in the Z06 - the fact that he was able to not only keep up, but rocket ahead is an indication of just how much power he has (~615 RWHP). It's the Stage II Lingenfelter package using a built 346 c.i., not the 800+ HP 427 kit.

Man that 02 c6 is nasty, especially when the video said it was running in 4th gear while the other 2o6, the 06 one, was in 2nd gear and still the 02 won. I had a feeling it has something in there and I was right, at the end of the video it said that the 02 had a stage 2 Ligenfelter TT kit. last race was a good race. Good video.

I slam modded and stock Cobras all the time here in the Ft. Worth area but then again I do the same to other Z06's....granted the Mustang isnt in the same class as a Vette and a chick will pick a Vette over a Mustang any day of the week...well unless she lives in a high class trailor park and doesnt know what a Vette is all about...anyway I like em both and the new GT500 Cobra is bad ass looking but lets face it....62K for a Ford...well thats just dumb.

Whats even funnier is that before the S/C Cobra, Chevy need 70 more cubic inches to outrun the Fords. Example Ford 281 vs Chevy 350. As for the new $40,000 Challenger SRT8 with its 425hp engine it would come down to a driver's race with a $30,000 Mustang GT with 300hp and wouldn't touch a Shelby GT500. Do some research before you comment again so you don't sound so stupid.

03-04 Cobras are about $20-25K and the new gt500's are in the low $50K's and there mods are way cheaper($1-2K) and garage friendly. I don't wanna spend $10K(mostly labor lol) to add 100hp from my Z06, plus the already $75-80K sticker price!!

i agree the cobra is a great car, but it isn't even in the same ballpark as the vette, which is MUCH, lighter.
i own a 2007 Z06, and have a friend withe the new shelby gt500. his IS easier to mod, but still doesn't compare to the vette. vette is americas longest running sports car for a reason. just wait until the new zr-1 hits the street, it will be just as easy to mod as anything else that is blown, or turbo'd. ;) then lookout.

Well, I really dont think these guys will be racing curves. I've never raced curves in my life? most of the racing is done how you see it in this video. Plus, there's a lot of suspension aftermarket parts for those Cobras;) You can make them handle curves just as good as a vette and you would still be way low for what you pay for a vette. That my friend, is a beautiful thing.

You guys need to learn how toread and open you eyes the stang was racing a 2004 zo6 not the new c6 it says it right at the top and you see it on the video..and yes the cobra will go fast with the stock blower(not 4 long) i have a buddy that used to run 10.60s in a firebird and he raced and beat a guy on at least 4 different occasions with a blown cobra stock supercharger and they were damn close every time till the ford blew up (no big suprise) one day

yeah ive seen lots of vids, and experienced it myself, and ive beaten a C6 Z06, and my cousins friend has beaten a C6 Z06 with the stock S/C. but we upgraded to the KB, and its a big difference in sound pitch, KB's whine at a higher note

I'd like to know if the 10.5 psi and a TT setup was confirmed to be Lingenfelter because as stated here already, a TT Lingenfelter should be making WAY more rwhp than that running 10.5 pounds of boost! Either way, it was great to see that C6Z06 get dominated by it's predecessor lol.
