  • This scared the shit out of me! I didn't see it coming. Wonderful actress. The Best. She deserved a fitting end to her character and she got it.

  • @mccommas2 Couldn't agree more! The greatest character all times played by the greatest actress all times.

  • I think she was shafted, personally

  • One of the most shocking TV incidents. I remember we were all big fans and when this happened we were all just sitting there in shock. The next day at work it was all anyone could talk about.

  • Major Nelson sent me here.

  • Rosalind represents NBC's future.

  • I remember seeing this when it was aired in the uk,I loved L.A.Law....wasn't there a rather unattractive bust of Rosalind that appeared after her death on the show that in the end was knocked over and smashed?.

  • @arcadian78 Yes, several episodes later... Becker and Roxanne finally hooked up after all those years, and were so, uh, vigorous, that they fell through from a ceiling above, landing on the ugly bust. Leland was in his office and griped, "You broke Rosalind!!!"

  • Where are moments 1 through 80? Yes radiance that scene from friends was a spoof on the LA Law scene. And ballebabab, DUH! That is what makes the moment so memorable. And Atom, I had the same thought.

  • Was this the inspiration for Dr Drake Ramoray's death, in Friends?

  • I always thought that was one of the worlds least dignified TV deaths. :/

  • Dr. Polaski should have waited for the turbo lift.

  • DR. PULASKI !!!

  • kkhwt: She wasn't ruining the show at all. In fact, she was one of the most popular characters of the show (a person that people either loved to hate or loved to love). Most fans agree that the show jumped the shark the day that they shafted her. Some critics have actually called Rosalind Shays "the greatest female character on TV". A wonderful role played by a fabulous actress.

  • I hope this was supposed to be funny, because it sure as hell is.

  • Talk about jumping the shark!

  • One of the most memorable moments on TV. Classic.

  • 2 people have lost loved ones down an elevator shaft.

  • Yeah guy, I don't think 911's gonna work for her...

  • "Looks like she..."

    *puts on sunglasses*

    "...got the shaft."

    YEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

  • I tried not to laugh. I really did.

  • When this episode first aired, I was also listening to the Boston Bruins face the Quebec Nordiques. That night the Bruins peppered Ron Tugnutt with 73 shots on goal in a 3-3 tie. I actually missed the instance when Rosalind went down the shaft because the game was very exciting, even on the radio. Everyone in the room yelled and gasped and I had to ask what happened!

  • I remember this episode so well

  • A real elevator can't do this; the doors of the car are what open the outer doors. The only way elevator doors can be opened otherwise are with a special tool only elevator repair people have. This was just done to get rid of her because she was ruining the show. I believe the episode title was "Good to the Last Drop."

  • @kkhwt it was funny too

  • I think about this damn scene every damn time I get on an elevator!

  • I remember when this aired (((gasp!)))...my best friend emailed me only these words the next morning: "An elevator shaft??!!" Great TV moment!

  • better get a lawyer....

  • Great Show...why can't I buy L.A. Law Seasons from Amazon or anywhere else? What a crock!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I like to think that this is also how Dr. Pulaski died in Star Trek: TNG; by falling down a turbolift shaft.

  • @David8693 HAhaHaha.

  • in the 1980's shows could get away with this

  • Reminds me of the elevators at the place I used to work. Save that instead of just opening, the sensor that made the door stop closing worked only 50% of the time. Makes you paranoid about ever keeping the door open with an arm.

  • this vs Lem death's on The Shield.

  • Just goes to show you, like them or not, you don't realize how much you miss someone until they're gone.

  • A lawyer in Toronto met a similar death in real life. One night at a firm office party, he was trying to prove the window in the skyscraper office building was unbreakable. It was. But the second time he tried, it wasn't and he fell to his death.

  • @nosuchpersonvideo The way I heard it: the window didn't break, but the frame did!

  • Another life lesson learned! Always look before entering.

  • made in china

  • dr pulaski died

  • Wow, that's straight up Looney Tunes

  • I remember watching this at the time and it was totally out of the blue, it was a joke but it was very well done.

  • Very stupid moment in L.A. Law, and it set the tone for the next two years that, while still pretty decent TV compared to most, was horrible compared to years prior to it in this series. It's very unfortunate, because before this episode, this show was one of the very best in TV history. Of course, that's merely my opinion.

  • thanks for putting this up~!

  • I love this scene, I never watched LA Law but I did watch Star Trek The Next Generation and hated Muldaur's character on there.

  • Memories...Wow I remember this!!! I feel old.....

  • I remember my mom watching this when I was about six or seven, and trying to reenact the big plunge afterward.

  • I remember this. I was totally shocked when she fell. Was not expecting that at all!

  • i would have grabbed the lines holding the elevator.

  • I remember watching this show, It was so unexpected that I couldn't go to sleep, it freaked me out! Ever since I never rush into an elevator before looking.

  • always was a commanding presence on screen, that woman.

  • Great show! Let's get the entire series out on DVD!

  • Scary. It happened here in Sweden maybe a year ago. A woman in a store was going to take the elevator down a floor and when she stepped into the elevator, she fell down the shaft. She only fell one floor so she survived but she is paralyzed from the waist down.

  • i was in college watching it in the dorm, we cheered.

  • Felt like "jumping the shark" a little bit......

  • @PleasantPhotoVideo For the record, there was an episode of Happy Days where a guy literally jumped over a shark — and it was the best one!

  • He got the gold mine!

    She GOT THE SHAFT!

Why couldn't that have been my MOTHER-IN-LAW?

  • hahahaha! I remembe this! I remember seeing this on TV when it happened! Holy crap, this brings back memories.

  • It was a great scene, I thought it was shocking. But they did it soooooo well. I still remember the surprise & shock - and relief that this marvellous actress wouldnt be in the show anymore. Great actress, horrible character.

  • they killed roz like that because diana was such a pain in the ass on set. however, she rocked the show!!

  • IIRC, the episode was called "Good to the Last Drop"

  • How about doing a YouTube video of the famous "christmas scene" with Rosalind and Leland? I'd love to see that one again!

  • @EvaChristinaAlfhild That would be GREAT. It's when we realized that they were together.

  • @nini0999 I love the "Roz & Leland story". I think that's the best thing about the whole show.

  • I can''t beleive a talented actress like diana muldaur agreed to this laughable demise,

  • Perfect ending for her!

  • I've been looking forever for this clip! I've heard people talk about it for years, but never saw it! Thanks so much!

  • Leland McKenzie is a pretty strange man. First he tells Roz that he doesn't love her. Then, after her death, he tells Ann that he really did love Roz. What's wrong with him?

  • He loved her more when she was in the elevator shaft.

  • They should never have done that! The show became NOTHING without her!

  • I think it was really just the departure of David E Kelley around the same time. He was clearly the guy who made the show work, and I liked it best when he wrote it, even above Steven Bochco who kind of depresses me-I love Kelley's ability to be controversial, comedic, and dramatic at the same time.

  • @EvaChristinaAlfhild --- that is so true... I remember the rivarly between Rosalin and one of the female attorneys.. I dont remember her name.. but they had some good exchanges and I recall her calling Rosiland "Queen Bitch" on the witness stand.. very funny!!!

  • That wast step was a woo woo!

  • that would be scary as hell

  • that woman played the first nurse on ST:TNG

  • Actually she played the second Dr, after Gates McFadden left in s2, Diana Muldaur played Dr Pulaski in S2, then Dr Crusher returned in S£ :D

  • I wonder if Rosalinds family wouldve hired MacKenzie Brackman to litigate the wrongful death suit against the building.

  • Perfect. :)

  • Splat!....

  • Unforgettable.

  • When I first saw this I was screaming so loud I didn't realize that they depict the sound of her falling 40 plus floors down the shaft!

    Best L.A. Law moment.

  • damn!! that's a creative way to write someone out of a series, omg.
