True, he seems a bit of an amateur, but he provides some basic information. If he's sincere, he may want to invest or seek out a Laphroaig T-Shirt. I'm sure Simon will provide.
Technically, he can skip Speyside, since it is part of the Highlands. However most of us appreciate that Speyside is so crammed with distilleries that it has become a region of its own. Many of us also consider Campbeltown as a region, but most American bars forget about beloved Springbank, et. al. Oops!
Mr Motamedi is not such an expert as he'd like to think.
Firstly whisky made in Scotland is spelt "Whisky" and not "Whiskey" with the E. Whisky made anywhere else, apart from Scotland, is not allow to to be spelt the same way.
Did he say Ireland or Island? Irish whiskey is spelt with the E and is not a proper whisky
@codalisa007 Who really cares what its "pronounced like", pronounce it in whatever English you wish imo. I do try and pronounce them in the Scottish way. Of most importance just enjoy your dram. David Pakman is the filmmaker, perhaps he added the E? maybe you should make your own video to inform the world since your such a pro... or atleast contribute positively to David's youtube post.
@codalisa007 Islay is actually pronounced eye-la or eye-luh he is right. - It's a gaelic name, and would be spelled Ìle. The Islay whiskys are my favourite - Laphroiag, Ardbeg, Bruichladdich etc.

An American telling us how to pick Scotch Whisky? Ha, fair enough.

@arbit3r What does a person's nationality have to do with their ability to understand a topic?
It would be the same as me saying that all Scottish people are born with a full knowledge of everything about scotch.

@codalisa007 the word you're trying to spell, in English, in which there is no other allowable spelling, is "spelled".
