Penny Steam-- I love your videos! They are the best I've seen on YouTube of the Ffestiniog Railway. Once, I was speaking to my history teacher, and the conversation drifted to gravity trains, and I sent her your gravity train video from the Quirks and Curiosities Gala playlist.
@steammaniac314 HI, Thnank for yuour kind response, if you look closley at the gravity train running the film you may notice one of the presenters of country file, I filmed it the day after the gala and noticed they were running the gravity train unsheduled, turn out to be for country file. Also did you know you can ride the gravity train, did that a few years ago myself.
@pennysteam I always wondered how people got to ride on the gravity trains. I always figured you either had to work there or had to have friends in high places...
@steammaniac314 On a specail event day you can get a gravity train from the harbour, takes up to ddault and then you free wheel al the way down. The one I filmed was special for country file, they kept stopping and starting to pick up the film crew which is why they used the engine to push them off again. Theres usualy an event early may when they run.
@pennysteam If only I could go to Wales in May....... I've decided that I'm going to move to North Wale after I finish all of my education.
That reminds me--I've had this idea for a while now: What if the F & WHR built an extension along the old LNWR trackbed to both Bangor and Llanberis? I figured that it would make travel easier (especially if they get rid of the 25mph speed limit...) by giving more options--if you miss the bus, instead of waiting for a taxi, wait a bit less for a train...
@steammaniac314 I think a good part of the old track bead has been used to make new by pass roads, for instance the old railway tunnel in cernarfon is now an under pass road.
@steammaniac314 How about a double track tramway along the roads--close 1 lane at a time during construction, or not build it on the exact railbed, but along the same path of the original railways.
At first glance you may think so, but thats actauly they way it happend. Merddin Emrys was first of followed by David Lloyd George later, from a distacne they look the same and the first shot was a long way of, had trouble myself working out which one was which. Same pattern most of the week, which is how I managed to get the differnt angle.
You could have a point there, May as long time when your go to as many lines as myself, could have filmed the long shot on one day and the closer one the next. I desided not to put any text on the film as I couldn't make my mind up at the time. The long shot was first and the closer shot you can tell its David Lloyd George, so you can see my logic as long as it was on the same day.

They might look similar, but I'm quite sure Merddin Emrys isn't fitted with DLG's chime whistle..?
