if the animal is still moving after 10 sec. (besides nerve twiching) i put another round in it, to make it quicker for the animal. i don't wait as long as he did. but still good shot.
did you feel bad the first time you killed an animal cause i went hunting a few years back and i killed a dear and im going this year but idk if i wanna kill another animal did you just like get over it?
the first time I killed an animal (feral goat), I had friends to back me up and we were all real proud of ourselves. But I'ld been killing animals for a long time. I felt real bad when I was young and killed a bird with a bb gun and I did get over it. But now days I value the meat. I do a ritual each time: I apologize for taking the animal's life and thank them for their meat, which I often trade for vegetables. Utilizing the meat always made me feal better after a sloppy kill too.
What a fucking wanker! 'I'm not sure if he's even dead' Obviously it wasn't dead you idiot, it was still moving around. Stupid little boy, you were so in shock, you couldn't even do the job properly (as in finishing it off quickly). Boys shouldn't play with guns. I hope you atleast took it for food and didn't just leave it there!
Well I guess then I'm just a stupid idiotic little wanker boy in shock playing with guns. Couldn't kill a sprinting pig at 30 yards if my life depended on it. Can't be happy about it either, for that's a no-no. But at least I'm dam good at bringing meat home. I'll bet your just jealous. I'll bet you the kind of hunter who wounds an animal and calls it a clean miss, or makes a second grade shot and tell your friends you hit it perfect. And you can't think of nothing better than insults.
I was a member of Pig Hunters of Hawaii until i left for the mainland. Many of the members of this group are subsistance hunters. In other words they need the meat.
:D I think it went quite well, considering the cicumstances. Talk??? Not every kill works out perfectly, as this video shows. And about respect, I apologize to each animal for taking its life and thank it for the food it is providing myself, my family, and friends. Again, not everything works out perfectly in the real world. You can edit it to look like it does, but that would be a lie and make for boring conversation. Enjoy the video but please refrain from name calling, thank you.
whoa that was 1 killah shot i getting hungry 4 the boar on the big island 2 good things about big island the boar infestation the honey infestation chicks!!!!
Most of the time a hunter waits before trailing game a few minitues to an hour. The animal often bleeds to death waiting see where the hunter is & where the shot came from. If a hunter persues the game too soon then the animal will run and many times not be found and simply die in the woods. This guy is an ethical hunter. People just have a time when they see it on camera. A few cracked individuals elevate animals to human suffering because of their philosophical beliefs.
damm you take your firggin time to finish and put it out of its missery, i thought you would run up to finish it yet you play with it and show it off before letting it die.. Learn to let the animal at least die as soon as you can if your going to kill it, CLEAN, FAST.
I disagree with you too. And the guy is not a poor shot. He got a running 1 and 1/2 foot high target at a range of 35 - 45 meters. Pigs are hardy animals and so what he did was pretty good. I wouldn't want to be going near the damn thing if I wasn't sure I got it too, I have a friend who fell over near one trying to knife it, he was lucky he had dogs there to hold the pig. You have to be a shit hunter before a good one dipshit
I disagree with you here. I'd rather take the shot and miss, then not take the shot and never know. I've always tried to be the "good hunter". Here in Hawaii, the "good hunter" comes home empty handed. I assume you are a mainlander, that hunts the VERY overpopulated whitetial deer. I've watched the hunting channel almost daily and the kind of game those guys see is crazy. Talk about easy mode. We see 1, maybe no game each time we hunt.
Nice shot. And it was a good idea to not go running right in there. People can whine about it, but that was pretty much a perfect hunt. You couldn't tell if he was alive or if it was just nerves twitching until you touched it. And then you put a finisher right in. I don't care what the bunnyhuggers say, that was a fair and ethical hunt. Good job.
nice videos. just got my 1st shotgun and i'm researching different hunt opportunities in hawaii. i have 28" rem 870. thinking of adding a 20" w/ rifle sights and rifled and improved choke tubes. i'm on oahu. i notice most of not all your hunts are outer island.. do you remember the gun and ammo for this pig hunt? any and all info about shotgun hunting in hawaii that you can pass on would be appreciated.
I don't have much. My gun is a 20 gauge 870 Express magnum with 20 to 22 inch smooth bore barrel and iron sights. The setup is compact and packs a punch. I use rifled slugs and buckshot. It's basically a very close range gun for hunting in dense forest. I often load the magazine with buckshot and a slug in the chamber so that after the first shot, I'll have buckshot as followup shot on a running animal if nessesary. That's how I do it.
20 gauge. what was your range for this shot? what place is this on the big island? how was the meat on this one? was ono or what? again, nice shot. thanks for the info.
shesh people act like they know all about killing, like they hunt all the damn time, i think they should try it b4 they are allowed to flap their mouths,,,the pig did look like he was in death throes,,,he was merciful and killed it when he realized it was not dying immedatly, go hunting and j=kill something and see how fast even a heart or lung shot is,,,nothing is perfect and not every animal dies right away even after a lung/heart shot
and you who say this boar was suffering because the hunter wasn't "capable" of getting a cleen kill: the animal was paralyzed after the first shot, that combined with the shock it got from beeing shot would probably make sure that it didn't feel to much pain... hunters can't just shoot the animal into pieces because it kicks its legs. come on, think before you talk.
That was a 20 gauge remington 870 express magnum. But I was shooting slugs. Noticed how I flinched on the second shot- I'm used to this gun nowdays. I wasn't quite back then.
I may be cold, but in light of the effects those creatures have on the environment and native wildlife of Hawaii this is merciful! Better this than some form of trapping and poison! And besides you ate it! Not like you were killing it just cuz you had an itchy trigger finger...
What the hell are you talking about???! It looked As though it was in it's last kicks. As soon as I found out it was only wounded, I positioned and put him down. There was no waiting, only uncertainty. There was no way for me to tewll where he was hit and he acted as though he was dying
Your telling me that if you shot a deer and it's down for the count but it's leg is still kicking 30 seconds later, that you would shoot again? Why blow the pigs head in half if I don't need to? You mainlanders are the most nitpicky hunters I have ever seen. One thing doesn't go perfect and you grumble like spoiled brats. I give you all credit though on how disciplined you are. Very different here and there.
You want to know what happenned Tuxter, what really happenned? I shot. I checked on it to see if it was down. It looked like it was in it's last throws of death, being it had been only 10 seconds or so. So I wait. Strangely it keeps moving but it should have noticed me if it was still alive, I thought. He didn't notice me even when I walked right up to him. So I poke him in the ham and he still shows no responce. So I wait a moment thinking again that he is in his last throws of death.
Then, I realize that if he was paralyzed, he would not have felt me poke him. The rest is history. Quit grumbling. Not everything works out absolutely perfect. It was about 90 seconds. Big deal. good ridense and good eats! Save your compasion for deer and not invasive species of Hawaii.

hey man dont sweat these fools running their mouths off. U did a good kill, apparently none of these boneheads realize we hunt with knives most often, if they think bad shot placement is bad..wait till they see a hunter bleed one out. g job on the kill man.
My favorite thing to kill out of them all is kahili ginger. Nothing like the sound your machetti makes when you pop'em off near the root. mmmmmmm ... heaven.
No, but for real, ordinarily I would delete comments like this, but I might as well leave it since your really just showing your own bigotry and cultural insensitivity.
No I disagree. And being that I know myself better than anyone else knows me, I know what I would and would not do. ...actually I'm probably less likely to try to kill anyone because I know the horrors involved in death.
Eh, what do you expect? Not everything works out textbook style. As soon as it was obvious one was needed, I got in position and did. I praise you mainland hunters for being so disciplined but sometimes you guys grumble so much at the smallest things, it erks the shit out of me. You don't need to be disciplined here. You'ld think it easy. We kill pigs every week. Bottom line, meat is on the table.
spoken like a person who has never hunted before. bullets rarely kill instantly like on those movies you watch. a well placed knife will kill just as quickly as a well placed bullet. just like a badly placed bullet will wound but not kill, same as a badly placed knife. also, there is a "w" in "wrists". so "you'ld" might want to learn to spell, otherwise you look like "you're" an idiot... idtiot.
Buddy, I'm poor. I catch my meat I eat and I'm trying more and more to grow my own food. Yes, I would rather... And I should have bladed him. And I could care less about the suffering of a pig. A pig is a pest, they are not majestic and they do bad things to native ecosystems here. good riddens and good eating. I feel worse killing a fish. Heck, I even feel worse cutting down a tree. BTW your one sick puppy.
sorry to disapoint you but all the damage was on the other end. And why should I waste a bullet on an animal that seemed dead/dying; never even flinched when I touched it, never showed any sign that it was aware of its surrounding, only what appeared to be last kicks until I touched his head. My biggest regret was in not blading him with a knife.
Can tell you no realy hunt much, brah you down one pig slit da throat. braddah man was scared da pig saying i tink still alive. no shit the fuka moving, otha den dat good shot
Haha, all I had was one 4 inch skinning knife. And don't slit the throat, it's bs, doesn't bleed them any better that poking vitals. Cuting the heart and lungs does the same exact thing a lot faster. U want to see slitting throats, I can post them.
actually it's a smooth bore and can shoot either rifled slugs or buckshot. The denseness of the forest varies so I'm always switching around rounds. in thick stuff I usually have a slug in the chamber and the magazine filled with buckshot. ...unless it's really thick, like 10 yard visibility, in which case I'll go with all buckshot. But the slug with follow up buckshot allows me to shoot the first shot at a calm animal and if needed, shoot at the running animal with the buckshot.
