I have the priviledge of owning this DVD. No boring moment. Each singer is a fantastic talent, in their own right. Take nothing away from the other singers. Diana evokes such pity in her first aria (O zitt're Nicht). Her - combining that voice with her acting - is simply breathtaking. She could give many a Hollywood actor a lesson or two!! Her aria Der Holle Rache, is so awe inspiring that I find myself "on her side". Absolutely hypnotic, stupendous from the Queen of the World

I am absolutely stunned at the beauty of Damrau's dress; many people may think it is atrocious, but i think it is extraordinarily beautiful, and her entire appearance is flawless. The hair, the crown, the eye shadow, the lipstick, the glitter... I pay a LOT of attention to detail;)

It's really highly unusual to find this level of completeness in an opera singer. If I concentrate in the vocal part, some other voices come to my mind with more strength. But considering the whole performance, this is absolutely superb.

I can say that the production is really good, this is the best version of The Magic Flute I saw, from the stage, the singers and the costumes, they are really good, the lighting and sound was incredible. I prefer Damrau then Natalie Dessay. Damrau can express true intensity of the aria, the proper use of ups and downs, plus... shes expert in using thrills....

plus... most opera singers are of coarse excellent in singing but poor in acting, but this one... she's all in one package..

@Bethalaine While I generally prefer Natalie Dessay's more naturalistic, "method" style of acting to Dessay's more dramatic, "stagey" acting, I love Diana Damrau as well and she gives a fantastically subtle performance here ... simultaneously truly desperate for the return of her daughter and using her voice and her person to manipulate Tamino into aiding her. The look she gives him at 2:09 to see if he's convinced is one of those wonderful little touches. Great, great stuff.

Are you ripping from DVD? DVD is only 'HQ' quality, 480p when deinterlaced. HD is 720p / 1080p, you'd probably have to use an HD source such as blu-ray.

No, that is not right. DVD are HD quality if you edit them correctly, but only 720p. Blu-ray are 1080p. I have the HD file but my upload dies after three hours. Youtube fail.

Hrm, strange. Not sure where the extra quality would be coming from, as (at least in the US) DVDs are encoded as 720 x 480p (with the 720 referring to vertical resolution, not horizontal). They may be higher in Europe, as I know Europe sdtv is higher, on the order of 520p.

I don't know either, but I have ripped the DVDs in 720p HD, and I actually uploaded some excerpts of interviews in that quality. The file of this video I have in my computer is HD, but I had to make the quality a little worse so youtube wouldn't crash before finishing the upload *sigh*
