Since I was a little girl, I have had a real problem with the sun, intolerance and rashes... This could be a winner for me! Thank you for sharing so much helpful advice!
Hi Lisa, another great video to watch ! I just discover your blog and it's amazing. Thanks for all your council ! I have a question about the sunscreen utilisation : do I have to apply moisturizing cream before the sunscreen or is it possible to only use the second?
Thank you in advance for your answer and sorry for the formulations because i'm french ;-).
Dear Lisa, after hearing your recommendation about Peter T. Roth instant SPF, I tried it and already like it so much!! It´s indeed, very finely milled, and a lot of powder flies all over when you shake it, but it´s ideal to reapply sunscreen once you´ve got your make-up on, and does not give a cake-y look. Thank you!
thanks Lisa extremely. I live in Australia under harsh sun. now i will be able to pick a right one for me.but would you recommend any specific one? would be very helpful .
Thank you sooooo much. These videos helped me a lot since I've been very confused about what product to get. There is just to many on the market and just a little bit of direction will help a lot.Thx much! :-)
Lisa, I always love your vids and thanks for posting this! I have some concerns about some of these sunscreens though. The US EWG Sunscreen review 2011 (breakingnews.ewg.org/2011sunscreen/) lists some of these as 'high risk' to health because they contain Vitamin A and/or hormone disrupters. The least hazardous is La Roche Posay Anthelios, and there's no review of a few of the products, such as the amazing Institut Esthederm range, because it is a US report.
@YoungDamnedLust not on its own no. Best use a moisturiser (or suncream) with an SPF first then use the powder over the top for extra protection or for touch ups.... to be on the safe side X
You hope that was helpful? Well, you happen to be the most helpful and informative person ever! I love your blog and your videos, missglamorazzi sent me. This series about sunscreens is the best thing ever, even better than magazines and books! Ive been telling friends and family to wear sunscreen but no one cares, we live in Egypt btw and I'm gonna show them this! Thank you for being the most awesome person ever, and also can I wear sunscreen on my eyes?
yayyyyyy u're coming to italy !! i'm italian and yes it's soooo hot right now !! :D thanks a lot for your videos ..they're just so informative and the way you go straight to the point and manage to say such a lot of things in so little time is amazing..i feel i need to take notes!! and i'm definitely going to lol.. you're absolutely amazing and thank you once again!! :)
Hi Lisa. Just wanted to say I think you've changed my attitude to sunscreen. I used to not wear it because being pale I always avoid the sun, and I haven't found one that doesn't break me out, but this vid gave me some confidence to try again. I forget that even walks on a work break could damage the skin. cheers!
It's great that you introduce ranges that offer good UVA protection like Bioderma and La Roche Posay. Many brands just focus on SPF (that indicates only UVB protection) since that is what consumers look out for. Since you're a brilliant make up artist, I think it'd be helpful for you to talk about the amount of sunscreen that has to be applied to achieve the stated protection (1/4 teaspoon or 1.25ml) and how foundations that contain SPF can cause sunscreens containing Avobenzone to break down.
La Roche-Possay is amazing. Luckily, here in Chile they sell it on every drugstore. I absolutely reccomend that brand. Also, Avene has very good sunscreens.
I just wanted to ask if i use multiple products like face cream SPF 15 + a sunscreen SPF 15 on top of the face cream, does the protection "add up" ...SPF 15 + SPF 15 = SPF 30? or because both of the products are SPF 15 thats the max protection i get?
@wendyaleks90 just 15... SPF doesn't add up beacuse it's all about the time the protetion will last on your skin. If you put a double layer of your sunscreen, you don't "double" the SPF either. :)
Hi Lisa, is it safe to use the anti pigmentation products if I don't have pale skin? I guess I have a kind of fair complexion but I wouldn't say it is white, I guess what I'm asking is - is it going to lighten my whole face and make me pale or just target the brown spots I'm prone to? Thank you x
Hi Lisa, I LOVE your channel. Just a quick question about SPF though; sunscreens in Australia don't go above an SPF of 30; does that mean my skin is missing out on protection? I get the impression that SPF's of higher than that must be bad for the skin if they're banned from being sold (however you can find them if you know where to look :). What are your thoughts on this?
Hi Lisa! Thanks so much for this video! I don't really wear sunscreen but I will from now on. I have a few questions. I heard the darker your skin colour the less protection you need, is this true? I have medium brown skin (mac nc 40) what protection factor would you recommend? Also is it ok to apply sunscreen to your eyelids? Does the skin still get vitamin D from the sun if your wear a very high spf like 90 or 110? thanks so much xxx
Do NOT use Coppertone Oil Free for Faces 30 spf, You will be sorry. It leaves my face with NO moisture and THEN my eyes start watering. My daughter also! I can afford Eucerin and bananaBoat 30- At least they work, do not make my eyes water, fragrance free and I can afford to buy them.
hi, first of all i just wanted to say you look so beautiful in this video!wondered if u could possible share how u did your make up.. if u have any on that is?? u just look stunning. Also, i used to have acne and still get bad spots from time to time and they always leave a dark pigmentation even when they have gone. is there anything u can recomend to fade these marks on my face?i think u mention in this video that people who have pigmentation can use products to lighten it. love your website xx
So informative & helpful. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Plus you look absolutely gorgeous! Such a fresh, natural look with THE COOLEST nail polish. I need it.
Thank you so much for this video, but I was wondering if you could tell me where I can purchase Peter Thomas Roth products...particularly the Instant Mineral SPF you talked about?. :)
Hi Lisa, Can you please recommend a treatment for dark spots around the eyes and your favourite concealer for masking them. Since the latter stages of my pregnancy last year if have suffered some very obvious dark marks around the sides of my eyes and they make me really self concious. It seems the more i try to conceal them, the more obvious they become, and the fine skin around the eyes becomes a bit clogged and creased. Hope you can help xx
I've been reading Vogue for years and started using sunscreen since I was 14/15 as a result. Im now 27 and still get ID'd when I go out so something must be working! This video was definitely food for thought though. I like La Roche Posay so I might have a look at their sunscreens. The mineral powder is just what I've been looking for as I'm going away next month, so thank you! LOVE your nail polish - it really looks good on you. Thanks again :) xx
Hi Lisa, very helpful video, dont think I've seen anything like it! Would you be ale to do a vid on eye creams (with spf) would like to hear your advice/recommendations? Thanks!
are there any tinted moisturisers with SPF you'd recommend? i have the laura mercier oil-free tinted moisturiser and i like the coverage it gives but it's doesn't provide broad spectrum protection. boo!
Thank you! Your film was worth the wait, and it is a real luxury for us to be able to benefit from your expertise! P.S. - I think the DDF Matte finish photo age is discontinued, at least here in the States. Thanks again. x Tara
@steeletara01 Oh no maybe they are discontinuing it (hope not) but it is still available at the moment.. I bought it last week at Sephora in New York and it is definitely still on the Sephora website. Thanks for your lovely comment x
@lisaeldridgedotcom HI LISA! YES IT IS DISCONTINUED! :( WHAT WOULD YOU SUGGEST INSTEAD OF THE DDF MATTE FINISH PHOTO AGE??? I REALLY LOVE YOUR VIDS, AND COMPLETELY TRUST YOUR ADVICE, BUT I CANT FIND THAT PRODUCT,,MY SKIN IS VERY SIMILAR TO YOURS, IM 22. THANKS :) PLEASE KEEP DOING THESE AMAZING VIDEOS!!
Hi Lisa, Love your videos. I was surprised that you didnt cover the "Ultrasun" range in your Sunscreen review. I had heard it was one of the best ranges, and recently bought the antiaging face formula. Any views on this brand? x
@LauJoYee If it makes you feel greasy you should switch to a lighter formulation. Try one of the La Roche Posay ones for combination skin maybe? The powder I mention does not make you look powdery at all, it is very sheer. x
Would you mind doing a video on Fading creams?? I just noticed some brown spots on my forehead that I would love to fade without the expense of Light treatments...Thanks!!!
I have very sensitive skin so I must wear a high sun protection even in winter; the one I use daily is called "baby carota" and it's from an italian brand which makes 100% natural product. I definitely recommend it.
Hi Lisa, another great video thanks so much for doing it! Its such an important issue and so glad you went through alot of different products to help suit different people! Now I must just decide which to go for...although i like the sound of DDF, La Roche Posay or bioderma! Thanks again..you rock!
This is very important information, so thanks for sharing. Many years ago, I used to work in the tanning industry, and last year I had some prestage cancer removed from my face. I had it done at a private hospital, and they recommended the La Roche-Posay products, so I wear SPF 50 underneath my makeup every day, and also my foundation contains SPF. Sun is so damaging to the skin, it ages you so fast!
Lisa, could you pls. pls. do a summer foundation edition? I just started a new job where it's physically demanding, hot and I'm constantly on the go. I don't have the time to do touch ups throughout the day 'cause I could be on a project for 4-5 hrs. w/o a break but have to greet loads of new clients/customers/biz. associates and I find my makeup melting off. Additionally, my oily face becomes sticky from the excessive running around & heat. I've tried tons of primers but to no avail.
I live in Canada where this past fall they aired a show here you were/are? on in the UK and I loved your personality and advice so when I stumbled upon one of your videos here on youtube I subscribed right away. I love your product suggestions and tutorials and I feel like I learn something every time I watch a new video. Is there any one product specifically that you would recommend for very oily acne prone skin that does not contain avobenzone? Thanks : )
Thank you for this extremely helpful review. I am looking forward to trying your recommendations. Could you please tell me your opinion on ' all day long' sunscreens that don't have to be reapplied. Are the sunscreen ingredients effective and broad spectrum, and do they really last? The one that comes to mind is Piz Buin but I'm sure there are others. Thanks!
hi lisa...THANK U SOOOO MCH for this video!! i have been waiting for this!!! i have rele bad pigmentation on my skin... i do put on sunscreen regularly and everything... now i rele want to try the institute esthederm photoreverse sun lotion...i went on their website and i cant access the product because it says sth like 'reserved access' and sth like i need my professional log in information.... is it only accessible by pro artists or sth?? tht'll totally suck then..!!! =(
what do you think of sunblock by clinique..you havent mention it..i am using it currently is it worth having?? your suggestion would be helpful..thanx!!
@sweetchery16 hey, are you using clinique superdefense day cream with SPF 25? if you are, you should watch this video. gemsmaquillage has done a review and she was really unhappy with the claims made about sun protection.
Great video! i've got fair skin an freckles typical irish look, i never tan an burn very easily, even worse at the mo my dermatologist has put me on roaccutane so its made my skin sooo sensitive to everything so i'm on the look out for a high factor suncream for face an body, its hard to know which ones to choose, as i hate the greasy effect from it an i dnt wanna spent a fortune on one. x
this and part one were amazingly informative, what youtube should really be for! keep it up and thank you! p.s i saw that you were mentioned in a magazine article lately (the one with kate from the apprentice and karen from strictly) :)
I live in Australia so using sunblock every day is hugely important, even in cooler seasons. I'm still searching for the perfect sunblock so these videos have veeb really helpful!
By the way, what camera and lighting do you use for your videos? x
Thanks for talking about sunscreens, based on your flawless face and years of working with face products i think you know your stuff and gave some good info!
@kaileebaby08 If you have a patent for an idea/product/technology a product uses it means you are granted exclusive use of it. So for example L'Oreal have patented that particular ingredient mentioned by Lisa which protects you from the sun, and therefore only companies owned by them can put it in their formulations. x
Hi again, I cant believe it I went to space NK few days ago and lady recommended to me the same creams Institut Esthederm, They bit pricey and I think I will stay with LRP. Thank you again for very informative video. The best on YT so far!!
Fantastic video as usual Lisa. Very informative! :) It would have been great if you had included the degree of UVB protection in each product (degrees of PA)..I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to this but no worries I can hopefully easily check this up.
Just a quick question, what do you think of Jane Iredale's Powder-Me SPF Dry Sunscreen SPF 30 (if you have tried it)? I like it but having watched your video, I'm thinking of switching to Peter Roth's now ..
@mustbeseeingthings Thanks for commenting I appreciate your feedback.I find the Jane Ireland one a touch too heavy as it tends to build up. The reason I like the Peter Roth one is because I used it all day and there was no visible build up at all, its very finely milled and sheer x
Hi Lisa, very interesting video. I'm Italian and I'm living in Rome, I have problems of brown spots so I use bioderma spf 30 or 50 all year long. I know the Institut Estedrm products and thank's to Your video I decided to try their face cream.
So you do come to Italy for holidays? really? i like you more
Oh my God! Lisa, You are so great! I will probably repeat this comment in your every video, but they are so informative!!! Please keep doing them!
I have a very importat request for you! Please do the video for hooded eyes. I'm only 25, but I repeat my dad's face complaction. And I can not do any liner because it goes wavy in the outer corner and I always look like I'm sad!!! Don't know what to do with it. SOS!!! :)
Thank you for an excellent suncare 'tutorial'! I love it that due to your own skin type you are able to speak about comedogenicity of suncare products. I always find them extremely clogging, so I am very glad I now have tons of recommendations from you on ones that are unlikely to cause me spots!
Hi Lisa, I've recently purchased the Kanebo sensai soothing moisturizer which also have no spf. The SA told me that Sensai moisturizers contain some kind of "special" ingredients that SPF is no longer needed (and that they only use SPF in their hand creams... so I was wondering that since you've got so much experiences with japanese cosmetics, do u think that it is true??? =)
This video is exactly what I hoped it to be: informative, competent and helpful. And so many products to choose from! I'm definitely going to read more about a few of them, especially since I'm just planning my trip to Italy :) Thank you, Lisa!
Thank you Lisa, I love your videos. I especially like how you give a breakdown of the chemicals and how they help your skin. How to use, when to use, what it does, etc....
Your knowledge of the products is wonderful, and that you pass it along to your viewers is great. Exactly how these videos should be made. Please keep up the good work
@littlemissfunky1 I personally prefer to use face formulations on my face and body ones on my body. Simply because body formulations are often richer so dont suit my skin. If your skin is drier and not prone to breakouts you will probably be ok using body formulas on your face. the pigmentation I was referring to was more like hormonal/hyper pigmentation (larger dark areas of patchy pigmentation) x
Is there different ingredients in face sunscreen as opposed to body? I've found that with most suncream that I apply to my face, my cheeks react incredibly badly and get very sore. The only range I've found that this doesn't happen is the Simple range, but I'm not sure how great their protection is so would be interested to try something else. I also have this problem with most toners, so never use these either?
@frostsweet I dont know much about the Simple range in terms of the protection it offers. It sounds like your skin is very sensitive. If I was you I would use creams which are specially formulated for the face, on your face. Bioderma would be good or La Roche Posay (sensitive skin formulation). x
@TheFleurBleue blend the sunscreen all over your face with hands first then sweep fingers across the eyelids last. This way you cover the eyelids but you dont get too much on them which can work its way into your eye and cause irritation. A very thin layer is best. Also in really strong sunlight wear sunglasses...it will stop you from squinting and also protect the delicate skin around your eyes. x
@lisaeldridgedotcom Thank you! I always worry about this area because the skin around the eye area is so thin and wrinkles first. Better to prevent! Maybe someday they provide an eyeshadow base with sunscreen, this would be genius.
great videos... thanks so much for all the information! i find sunscreen choice very confusing, i think the powder recommendation is great, i can never bring myself to apply more cream throughout the day after having applied my makeup. I was wondering if you have any thoughts on Sisley's All Day All Year for normal days spent mostly in the office, it apparently gives eight hours protection. It would be so great to be able to apply one product in the morning and not have to think about it again.
I LOVE Institut Esthederm! I'm super fair and when back in Oz I watch my skin burn and blister within 5 mins of putting my SPF on. Not with IE! It's AMAZING!!! V excited about the PTR top up powders though! Thanks soooo much for making this video! It's SUCH an important subject to cover! I just wish the UK would regulate how companies state what SPF their creams are rather than just letting them put numbers on the front of bottles willy nilly. Rebecca x
How do you apply the sunscreen? do u apply it after or before moisturiser?
CatherineVo030 2 days ago
@CatherineVo030 Instead of, preferably... :) Some sunscreens have moisturising properties, so you only need the sunscreen. Hope that helped!

hi Lisa, thanks for all your great advices! so helpful. could you please advise some online sites where these products available?
Elenora777 1 year ago
Lisa, could you pls. pls. do a summer foundation edition? I just started a new job where it's physically demanding, hot and I'm constantly on the go. I don't have the time to do touch ups throughout the day 'cause I could be on a project for 4-5 hrs. w/o a break but have to greet loads of new clients/customers/biz. associates and I find my makeup melting off. Additionally, my oily face becomes sticky from the excessive running around & heat. I've tried tons of primers but to no avail.

Hi Lisa,
I live in Canada where this past fall they aired a show here you were/are? on in the UK and I loved your personality and advice so when I stumbled upon one of your videos here on youtube I subscribed right away.

Thanks!

sweetchery16 1 year ago
@sweetchery16 Clinique sunscreens are very good and they offer very good protection so if this product is working well for you, stick with with it x
lisaeldridgedotcom 1 year ago
@sweetchery16 hey, are you using clinique superdefense day cream with SPF 25? if you are, you should watch this video. gemsmaquillage has done a review and she was really unhappy with the claims made about sun protection.

Great video! i've got fair skin an freckles typical irish look, i never tan an burn very easily, even worse at the mo my dermatologist has put me on roaccutane so its made my skin sooo sensitive to everything so i'm on the look out for a high factor suncream for face an body, its hard to know which ones to choose, as i hate the greasy effect from it an i dnt wanna spent a fortune on one. x

what does patent mean?
kaileebaby08 1 year ago
@kaileebaby08 If you have a patent for an idea/product/technology a product uses it means you are granted exclusive use of it. So for example L'Oreal have patented that particular ingredient mentioned by Lisa which protects you from the sun, and therefore only companies owned by them can put it in their formulations. x

Hi again, I cant believe it I went to space NK few days ago and lady recommended to me the same creams Institut Esthederm, They bit pricey and I think I will stay with LRP. Thank you again for very informative video. The best on YT so far!!
nieesia25 1 year ago
I think one of the cheapest but still amazing sunblocks is Soltan range and their two face sunblocks SPF30 & SPF50, available in Boots only.
Martusia1984 1 year ago
Fantastic video as usual Lisa. Very informative! :) It would have been great if you had included the degree of UVB protection in each product (degrees of PA)..I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to this but no worries I can hopefully easily check this up.
Just a quick question, what do you think of Jane Iredale's Powder-Me SPF Dry Sunscreen SPF 30 (if you have tried it)? I like it but having watched your video, I'm thinking of switching to Peter Roth's now ..
mustbeseeingthings 1 year ago

@MissCatemos I adore Italy, we come at least once a year and sometimes 2-3 times! x

Thank you for your help, Lisa :)

Please keep up the good work
cheers

By pigmentation do you mean thins like freckles too? Also do have to use a formula just for the face? Thanks very much!!
littlemissfunky1 1 year ago 2
@littlemissfunky1 I personally prefer to use face formulations on my face and body ones on my body. Simply because body formulations are often richer so dont suit my skin. If your skin is drier and not prone to breakouts you will probably be ok using body formulas on your face. the pigmentation I was referring to was more like hormonal/hyper pigmentation (larger dark areas of patchy pigmentation) x

Thank you Lisa

Is there different ingredients in face sunscreen as opposed to body? I've found that with most suncream that I apply to my face, my cheeks react incredibly badly and get very sore. The only range I've found that this doesn't happen is the Simple range, but I'm not sure how great their protection is so would be interested to try something else. I also have this problem with most toners, so never use these either?
frostsweet 1 year ago
@frostsweet I dont know much about the Simple range in terms of the protection it offers. It sounds like your skin is very sensitive. If I was you I would use creams which are specially formulated for the face, on your face. Bioderma would be good or La Roche Posay (sensitive skin formulation). x

Hello Lisa,
would you recommend using sunscreen on the eyelid?
TheFleurBleue 1 year ago 19
@TheFleurBleue blend the sunscreen all over your face with hands first then sweep fingers across the eyelids last. This way you cover the eyelids but you dont get too much on them which can work its way into your eye and cause irritation. A very thin layer is best. Also in really strong sunlight wear sunglasses...it will stop you from squinting and also protect the delicate skin around your eyes. x
lisaeldridgedotcom 1 year ago
@lisaeldridgedotcom Thank you! I always worry about this area because the skin around the eye area is so thin and wrinkles first. Better to prevent! Maybe someday they provide an eyeshadow base with sunscreen, this would be genius.
TheFleurBleue 1 year ago
great videos... thanks so much for all the information! i find sunscreen choice very confusing, i think the powder recommendation is great, i can never bring myself to apply more cream throughout the day after having applied my makeup. I was wondering if you have any thoughts on Sisley's All Day All Year for normal days spent mostly in the office, it apparently gives eight hours protection. It would be so great to be able to apply one product in the morning and not have to think about it again.

last year i developed the same sun allergy kind of thing. its horrible horrible horrible to have those reactions.
i have to check some of these products out!
thank you so much!

Rebecca x
