@agriakorn Scrawd. It's a type of seafood. He was cloaking the fact that he was saying, "Someone is getting screwed" referring to Frasier's legal bill ;)
I'm glad it worked out with Donny. I hated Mel, but Donny was actually a nice guy who didn't deserve to get his heart broken, even if he did kind of go over the line by suing Daphne. As Frasier said, we don't choose who we fall in love with, but still....I felt sorry for him.
@grumpytosnowwhite agreed. Always annoyed me a little they never tried to settle. Donny was hurt because of what they did and yet they wanted to drag it out further. I mean especially frasier. Went on and on about ethics in so many episodes and yet refused to try to make up for his actions
@Papped1710 But his "actions" weren't wrong at all, he'd discovered that two people were secretly in love with each other and about to ignorantly commit to others they felt less deeply for, for life. The truth isn't always painless for people involved. Donnie just happened to be the one on the outs.
@grumpytosnowwhite I agree completely! Mel was very pretentious and similar to Maris. It was so sad to see Niles repeating that pattern. Donny was so sweet and always showed Daphne how much he cared about her. His proposal was so genuine and romantic. It was hard to see him go through so much pain that he clearly didn't deserve. He was simply caught in the middle of two people meant to be together. Niles, on the other hand, seemed to almost try to buy Daphne's love with constant gifts.
@grumpytosnowwhite@DoveOfFlames You could argue that Mel was incredibly irritating and pretentious - but she didn't "deserve" to get hurt anymore than Donny. Yes Niles was repeating the pattern of being dominated (as he did with Maris); but that's Niles' fault for being such a wimp, not Mel's. And she was vindictive to Niles only after he broke her heart - that's Niles' fault (once again), not Mel's.
@JimboParadox She was manipulative and controlling even beforehand though. So it's more...I wish she could've been dumped earlier because of her own jackass qualities rather than getting dumped only because Niles was in love with Daphne. Because she would've deserved *that*, but she didn't deserve this.
@grumpytosnowwhite If Niles had dumped her after going out with her and deciding they were not compatible, I wouldn't have a problem with it. After all, c'est la vie. But he MARRIED her, going all the way and making a commitment which he then flapped on. I don't think Mel should be blamed for that. And while she had her unsavoury points, she did clearly care for him.
@JimboParadox Yeah, that's what I kinda wished too. It's kind of a lose-lose situation, because dumping someone right after getting married is a shitty thing to do, but staying married when you don't love them is even shittier, so...yeah, it was a mess either way. Same with Daphne: leaving a guy at the altar is horrible, but marrying him when you don't love him is even worse. The writers maneuvered that intentionally of course, because seriously, NO two people have worse timing.
@Coming2Grips Donny and Daphne actually remind me of Ted and Stella from How I Met Your Mother: she dumped him at the altar for another man too, and though she wasn't a jerk about it, he was heartbroken and it took him a good year or so to heal, which we got to SEE since he's the protagonist, so it's hard to blow off Donny's misery as unimportant just because he's a side character, even if the lawsuit was kind of vindictive. He obviously loved Daphne -- just look at his proposal.
OMG the elevator scene with Niles is effin priceless
