  • So were idiots really good way to open any hope of intelligent conversation

  • Green streak is of a light on the dashboard, when camera was moving to take the flash picture. Camera was being lifted up to take his picture while exposure was open.

  • on 0:28 you can see a really clear ghost with a headphone.

  • Not a "ghost" -it is a demon. God says there are no souls that walk the earth. If you want to see a Demon for real, Watch Demon on My Shoulder, Slits on my eyes" youtube. Its for real, have seen it myself.

  • Wow insult people by calling them names. What an unprofessional thing to do. I don't feel inclined to believe a word this disrespectful group says.

  • l your in a car silly, they are street lights, I get pictures like these all the times, esp when you are taking photos near anything outside with lights,

  • ghost hunters are not as stupid as you think. the experience investigators whom are also technically educated, would disagree that they would be fooled. you are talking about people that want to believe so bad, that they will believe whatever they perceive as a ghost. I take offense, you are stereotyping investigators as a whole. Like I said, they disprove first, know their lighting and camera just like you do, even more so. You proved this man was camera illiterate like many amatures.

  • rope light .. aka laser pen

  • I love the clip thanks. I wished I had cable, at least I can watch full episodes on line at sgustreaming (.) com awesome site.

  • The long delay totally explains it, and why the submitter was acting in good faith: He'd see the flash go off, and assume the camera was done taking the picture. But not the case: the camera was picking up two seconds worth where ever it was aimed.

  • hahaha magical comment

  • Ok, i don't believe it to.. But i once had a picture when I was at camp. that was when my friends were next to each other and i was making a picture of them. one of my friend had a green wire around her neck, like when you get hanged. and my other friend had a green wire in a shape of an arrow point to her poesy. So when I saw the picture i found it very strange. but now I understand that it is not true. but i still think its scary!

  • I took photos at the local cemetery at midnight and have almost identical shots to these. I viewed the photos that night but the following day my memory card mysteriously died. Lucky I printed the shots. They have amazed everyone.

    I would love an explanation.

I was never a believer until that night.

Let me know if you want me to send the photos to you.

  • lol. I am a photogarpher and this is so easy 2 do. go 2 my channel and look at the video (margaret river)

at the end of the video it shows u my ghost photo.

  • That is so obviously a ghost, LOL

  • "Idiots mistake as ghost."

So true it hurts. This is not only an effect we learned in HIGH SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHY and had a number of projects using this long exposure + lights effect, it is clearly obvious that there is nothing paranormal regarding these images. This is the first video I have watched by you guys and I'm sorry it took a day to sort out when anyone from my high school could have instantly explained this. Wow seriously, ghost hunters, look at the big picture.

  • You guys nailed this. Before i seen this video i had a few pictures that had the same streaks and i reproduced them with the help of a light from my speaker and hoaxed a few friends.

  • CANCER CURE = HEMP OIL

I dare you to interview Rick Simpson or Dr. Robert Melamede.

  • Yes, belief in "ghosts" and other "supernatural things" is simply stupid today with all the scientific knowledge we have now. And indeed all studies and surveys show that it is the most stupid of people who believe in stuff like that. : )

  • Simply stupid

  • Its fun to read the believers statements and see them shoot themselves in the foot.

The last one must be the epitomy; "we actually take pictures like that on purpose". This means that anyone who does it accidentally has a tried and true explanation for this... its a common effect using cameras. Ghost hunters do this deliberately.

As for believing in the christian gods... He doesnt like competion at all. .. you should read the bible for once in your life..

    Great fun SGU. Thanx

  • wow guys. you figured out that its not a ghost but just a light. we actually take pictures like that on purpose. i beleive in ghosts. i beleive in aliens. i beleive in UFOS. i beleive in god. and if this is the kind of stuff you guys sit around trying to debunk to prove that none of this stuff is real, then you guys are never gonna get anywhere proving anything

  • It's funny how the one person that believes in ghosts also has bad punctuation and grammar. Coincidence?

  • lol

  • He did't say that he believed in ghost, just that taking that kind of photos is easy to do, wich it is. I don't think that he believes in ghosts.

  • ★★★★★

  • omg you have to tell me how you made those stars! ♥♦♣♠

  • I am sure it is the same way you made the heart, diamond, clover, and spade symbols... ;O)

    Katalyzt

  • how does feint pictures of humanoid faces and body figures appear on photos that werent taken by digital cameras ?

please explain, i dont know if theyre real or fake... but i lean more towards fake... but would like to know the reason behind how humanoid pictures appear in photos that werent touchable during the time the picture was taken.

  • Double exposures are often the cause.

An image will be superimposed on another, often by mistake.

Another method that I've seen from old photos (early 20th century, late 19th) is that photographers would try to obliterate a person in a photo to improve the composition. A figure will still remain faintly visible, however.

  • not only is it not a ghost, this is actually an artform, google "light painging", or long exposure light photos....enjoy

  • *light painting, sorry typo

  • A friend of my family does that as part of her photography class.

  • Thanks for the 5X5! I'm a regular downloader of your podcast and think you guys really are serving the scientific community. I'm a Physics teacher and plan on showing the 5x5's to my classes on occasion. Showed this one on Ghost pics today in class. A request- I agree 'true believers' are gullible and idiots, but going as far as calling them idiots was a bit harsh for students. More effective would be to present information and let them realize true believers are idiots on their own. Thanks!

  • lol

  • Not to ruin anyone's fun here, but I'm just saying, real ghost fanatics know that these photos aren't authentic...

  • QFT

  • I've been listening to SGU religiously (Forgive the pun), but love putting a face to the voices. Rebecca, you look every bit as gorgeous as you sound!!!!! Be still my beating heart.

  • Wowee, now I know how to set my camera to ghost mode. spooky

  • Excellent! Thanks for the great work! I have a ghost hunter to forward this to. :-)

  • Love, Love, LOVE the video podcasts. Extremely well done... And after listening to the podcast for almost years now, it's nice to finally put a face to the voices! Keep up the fantastic work!

  • Thanks so much guys! Awesome video!

This one was actually my fave because you actually were able to solve something that so many people would immediately attribute to something supernatural. Yay for science and skepticism! I'm definitely going to have to show this to a few people!

  • Love you guys...please keep these coming.

  • These videos are a nice addition to the podcast... keep 'em coming.

  • Thank you guys for putting this up here.

Since listening to this episode of the 5x5 'cast I wanted to see the photos, and here they are!

  • Awesome! Thank you so much for the videos. I am a HUGE fan of the podcast and it is so great to see stories with photos as well. Even though they take time to produce, they are worth the wait.

  • moar vids!!!shift1!

  • I always listen to your 2 weekly podcasts. It would be good once in a while to see you guys recording a video podcast too.

Keep up the great work in our never ending and probably futile attempt to rid society of all the mind viruses infecting societies around the world.

  • Best cast on the net. More please!

  • I've actually taken quite a few photos with this effect on my digital camera. At the time I didn't think anything of it, but now that I've seen this I might try submitting the photos to ghost hunting websites and see what they have to say.

  • 5/5 and fav!

  • Great to have The Skeptics' Guide to the Universe on YouTube. I Love your shows.

  • Excellent. Glad to see the Skeptics' Guide finally on YouTube!

  • That was succinct.

  • you guys have faces?!

lol, seriously though-- love the video, extremely handy to be able to see the "ghost pics" as you guys analyze.

  • That's great, but I want live SGU TV! Maybe a video podcast?

  • Eh, the idea is great! I love that format and yes it does help greatly to see the photos. Thanks guys.

  • That was really awesome! Are you going to do this for all 5x5?

  • I use to shoot for a live-music publication, and this is a well used technique - If you set the flash to fill the foreground at the end of the (long) exposure, just before the shutter closes, you will get this kind of effect.

Good to see you folks on Youtube. :)

  • good work guys. keep it up!

  • This episode works so much better with the visuals! It really breaks out the "twilight mode" phenomenon nicely. Great job to the SGU gang!
