It is sad how the younger generation walks around making themselves look like jackasses as they ignore their culture and traditions they were raised with. Our ancestors fought long and hard for their culture to be preserved, and here the younger generation is slapping them in the face as they make a display of how they have forgotten their culture. It is an even bigger slap to the face of our ancestors when they don't pass down the culture to their children.
bravo bravo bravo finally i get to see it after years and years of reading it in the textbooks im buying it and bravo to the cast and crew of this film. keep our pride alive long live Guyana.
I'm so proud that they made this movie! My family ended up in Guyana, but I'm glad we've been able to preserve our indian culture. Still at times, I'm not sure if I should call myself Guyanese or Indian, what do you guys think?
Whta afilm, deseverd a Oscar Five Star, hey guyaneses people buy the a Venezuela movie Zamora the general and u can see that hapenned in Venezuelan side in 1938
I actually saw this movie when I was, I think, 12 or 13, and found it very hard to watch sometimes. Of course, I was never really exposed to racism at the time.
When the officer came in to take the young daughter, I had to fast-forward this part.
Naturally, I wasn't supposed to be watching it, but again I was 12 and rebellion was my sister.
if there is 3 Countries/Nations of The World that have 3 of the BEST National Mottos is my Native GUYANA (One People, One Nation, One Destiny), TRINIDAD & TOBAGO (Together We Aspire, Together We Achieve), & JAMAICA (Out Of Many, One People)!!! BIG UP WEST INDIES!!!
we still fall in de white man's hands, but remember, Mediterranean people; (Spaniards, Portuguese, Italians, French, Romanians & Greeks) ARE NOT FULL BLOODED WHITES, because Western & Southern Europe shares borders with Africa & parts of Asia, so Mediterranean & Latin people are Mixed/Multiracial as the majority of the rest of The World's population!
on a viscreal level Southern Europeans certainly don't think that. However who are these full blooded whites you refer to, there is no such thing as white or black blood and the terms black and white are completely relative, there are 'white' groups today who were once considered 'black' and vice versa
Blacks were da 1st ppl treated as slaves & to this very day, Blacks as well as other Coloured/Brown-Skinned people (East Indians, Natives, Latinos, Filipinos, etc), continue to face depressions & oppressions!
ok im' sure this is a great flim and all but why do the actors talk with an american accent???? if it is to be historically correct the actors should speak the way the characters they are playing spoke.
I know my roots, Both my parents are guyanese who immigrated to NYC. My mom is portugese, english and black, and my dad is irish, brazil and black. Im a mulatto. My ancestors were both slaves of guyana and brazil and indentured european immigrants and a british naval sailor. Britain ended slavery in 1834. Guyana has a small population, britain imports irish, portugese, even escaped afro american slaves, imported afro westindians via barbados and trinidad, imported lots of bengali east indians.
he is an indian actor kumar gaurav son of the late rajendra kumar another indian actor.kumar gaurav made his debut in 1981 in a love film title:love story ...cheers love frm india 2 my indo carribean brotherz n sisters we in india luv u
My ancestors are East Indian who where brought to Malaysia by the British as slaves sometime in 1850s. My great grandfathers were put to work in rubber plantations, used to build railways and they were paid very lower wages. Many of these indians died caused by malaria and poor living condition at the plantations. The British introduced alcohol to pacify these ppl. After 50 years of independence the indian descendant here are still treated as 3rd class citizen by the Malay government.
wow yo i can't believe what my great grandpa went through guyanese people deh strong like a pieco of iron nobody can mess wit aby dis aby de strong strong im a coolie man gt4life were one of de strongest people
i remember my nani sharing girmit stories from FIJI,the pain and torture that my ancestors endured,at the hands of the heartless and cruel british savages.. this movie reminds me of my peoples pain.. their silent tears, their agony, their bleeding souls..i weep as i watch, tears of blood...
yeah..so i heard..it brings tears to everyone's eyes..its so damn sad..to know that things went that way..i hate what happened..but i guess i all happened and we cant change it..we just have to honour those ppl..we are havin the tv premiere tonight..i can;t wait..
Excellent...wish we could make something like that about the indentured laborers brought from India to work on the sugar plantations in Fiji...same experiences...same history....same struggles...
I have not seen this movie but watching the trailer leaves me burning with desire to view it. Hope someone can tell me how to obtain it. I am a Guyanese living in Florida and trying to get back in touch with my roots
Hi i just would like to tell you I saw the movie already when it first came out at the movie theater and I think it's a great piece of my history to see where and how my ancestors came about to being Guyanese. Thank You for making this movie I really think it describes how it all started.
