  • For a Beatles fan it would be akin to a Christian hearing the sermon on the mount!!!!

  • Techinally only one of them went on to be the beatles.. haah.

  • Paul and George were still children they had after 15 and 14 years;)

    And John was 17:)

  • the complete version is online- thanks to the BBC

  • OK, not to be a skeptic, but how do they know that this recording is from that day? I could be wrong, and probably am, but I don't recall the song "Putting on the Style" ever mentioned as being played that day. "Come Go with Me" and "Baby Lets Play House" maybe.. And JL later said this was the first day he played "Be bop a lula".. It definately sounds just like JL singing tho..He must have always been a naturally good singer, even at 16.. I've never seen the first pic, either, that's nice..

  • @HermanJ06 They are genuine recordings of two songs from the evening performance of the Quarrymen in the Church Hall (across the road from the Church Field ) . Lonnie Donegan's "Puttin' On The Style" and Elvis Presley's "Baby, Let's Play House." In 1994, Bob Molyneux, a retired policeman, rediscovered a single reel-to-reel tape he had made of that evening performance, caught while experimenting with a bulky "portable" Grunding tape recorder.

  • EMI owns it, and as you can hear , its shit. Very valuable shit though.

  • Wow this is rare? Where did you find these reordings?!? and that first photo? i've always heard that the second photo was the only one taken of the quarrymen that day--that's also the very same day john lennon met paul mccartney for the first time immediately after this performance

  • Whoever made and has that tape is sittin' on A goldmine; an authentic turning point in pop music history !

  • Ok. Where do you get this things from?

  • @PERROMALDO -- These short snippets of these songs, and only these few seconds, were played publicly at the auction when the reel tape was sold in the mid 1990s. What is heard here is a reporter's recording made in the auction room with a microphone off one of the auction house's speakers. Audio files were on the internet within 24 hours. Those audio files were the sources for various bootlegs. Anything longer means it came from the original tape itself.

  • Who plays the TEACHEST BASS? i was just One year old. oh man...

  • This is fuckin epic! in the history of humanity

  • I like how he says just to see the boys and make the sound better

  • This is almost mystical, like it shadows his whole life. Innocently beautiful.

  • I sold all my Beatles LPs to by booze.. I hate myself for doing that..

  • haha this take seems the most fun out of ALL of them. With the exception of the solo, that kinda weak..lol

  • I hope my vids get comments,The Beatles were great

  • darn this is getting too many views 0_0 i think the released stuff should get the lots of views and things like this should be kept to a low view count because it's so precious

  • Your a bit of a wanker arnt you?

  • do you even know what that means? i'm a girl x[ i just don't like when the rare stuff get alot of views because then in a way it doesn't belong to the insane fans anymore

  • oh insane fans like you? Thats why i called you a wanker cause you for some reason think entilttled to watch this why other people arnt. How up yourself can you get? Ever thought that maybe alot of people like the beatles and that you dont have to be a tryhard artistic bitch to like them. I cant even put into words how fucked up your comment was and what kind of a person you must be to write something like that. Get over yourself.

  • 0_0 you have no idea how out of nowhere your comment is. you don't know what i mean at all. we're all fans here, and you need to calm down and enjoy the video. what i mean is that i hate trends, alot of people do, and i hate when something a group of people enjoy for their whole lives suddenly get popular again and posers pop up. i love meeting fellow fans at any level, i just don't like posers, not saying you are one incase you start cursing me out for that too. jeeze...

  • i'm a nice person to people, but there's simply some people i don't like because of the way they act, and posers by definition are people who pretend to like something to be accepted, to be cool, and that's someone i can't really respect =\ sorry if my comment before insulted you but i seriously meant no harm

  • and i'm hoping you said "posers like you", instead of "posers, like you" because then it would be a whole other insult

  • Low hits count has nothing to do with being precious. This performance is quite inaccessible other way except youtube and some more obscure sites. These hits cannot even compete with the representation of the officially released material.

This performance has never been released officially; the source of these bits is a radio broadcasted programme that was taped and edited by some listener.

  • most of the beatle stuff i have was never released officially lol(i have over 6000). there are things ive found that are so amazing i hope it never gets overrated. if you know what i mean. i know this wasn't released. i have it on a beatleg. i don't know why no one knows what i mean ?_? maybe i didn't say it clearly. obviously it's not about the hit counts. it's the fact that it's hard to find that makes it precious and especially that its the day john and paul met, now it's so easy to find here

  • When there is the net, nothing remains rare. The original 5-minute bit is safely kept in the EMI archives; they bought it from an auction some day during 1990's. This is not yet the complete deal, I mean.

  • i know. which is why i'm happy there's so much left to explore :] i personally hate the internet. especially the fact that everyone has gotten some sort of need for it including me. but without youtube, it's harder to find these things. because a beatleg collector needs to know about the beatlegs they're looking for to actually download it. i have a book to guide me to recordings and where to find them, etc.. it's not easy to find. youtube takes away the effort the rest of us put in.

  • but ofcourse, i didn't mean any harm from my first comment, i was only complimenting the audio x[. i was sayign how precious it is, that's all. this for anyone to listen to, maybe it will get them interested in finding more beatlegs, and discovering the non-public beatles on their own

  • this is great for*

  • Cool....thanks for posting.

  • WOW! LOVE IT!♥☺

  • This is the coolest tape ever.

  • Imagine how fragile this day was in the history of rock and roll. Even the guy who recorded this that day could have easily fucked up the beatles and rock and roll forever.... Let's say he asked the band if they wanted to do a more proper recording at his house and the band took off after the show.... John never would have met paul and so many acts we know today where someone decided to learn guitar because they saw the beatles on Ed Sullivan. They would never exist! Amazing.

  • lol. ok mr. butterfly.

  • yeah, I get the chaos theory reference (at least I think that's your reference).... And I know you could say what I said about any event but it's still pretty fantastic. Just imagine what event that day could have fucked up the whole of history?!!!

  • sure. but thank god everything worked out alright and they invented prozac. lol.

    just kiddin'. cheers.

  • I don't really get you're little "stabs" so no offense taken. Is prozac supposed to be an ADD reference because prozac is used in treating depression and ritilin for ADD. Don't really get what you mean, but yeah. The beatles are fantastic and it's interesting to ponder every once in awhile at how different everything would be if there were no beatles.

  • lol. it's like talking to a robot.

  • Hmmmm..... Funny you mention that, because my data banks are telling me I AM A ROBOT! OH SHIT!

  • hahaha. soooooooo true!!

  • hmm... makes ya think eh. im reading john lennons bio at the moment. im amazed there are recordings of the quarry men.

  • read Geoff Emericks "here there and everywhere, my years recording the beatles". Best book I've ever read on the beatles.

  • YES!! i read it about 2 months ago. amazing book! one of the best beatles books hands down. emerick is a legend

  • No no no, "Magical Mystery Tours" by Terry Bramwell

  • i have a book named "here there and everywhere" too but it's a book on the top 100 (in the author's opinion) beatle songs

  • it's really amazing that such a historical event was caught on tape. Literally a beatles-fan's wet dream. I can't believe someone actually caught this on tape! how ridiculous is that. Maybe the most historical day in all of rock and roll. Even if someone un-earthed a tape of Elvis learning guitar that wouldn't be as historic as this day was. Not even close!

  • Wow! This is amazing! I LOVE JOHN!

  • John looks great! 17yr old John....yeah take a look at those pics! They're lovely!

  • ????????????? dON'T YER LIKE yOKO?

I didn't really. I don't like to talk about those days much, I like to talk & think about 1957. I wish it was 1957 now even though I wasn't there. It dosen't matter as long as all of the Beatles were living, and The Quarry Men were building up to The Beatles. I love the Beatles/Quarry Men! I LOVE JOHN!

  • Oh! Hearing stuff from the day he knew Paul is.. Like being in the late 50's! What a dream! =)

  • the things id do to b there

  • I am amazed as well I never ever thought that there was a recording either, nice one

  • Whooa, Lennon himself would be surprised!

  • Brilliant !!!! Live bands nowadays have no atmos. although the quality wouldn't have been to todays stardards, it's how it should have sounded, love it.

  • Amazing...one day that changed music history. Because Lennon/McCartney IS up there with Bach, Mozart and Beethoven.

  • baby lets - the song that MADE jimmy page learn to play

  • two ping tickie

  • And to think, this was just a couple of years after Elvis had recorded "Baby, Let's Play House" himself!!

  • man i wish there was a video recording for this preformance ]8

  • that would be awesome

  • I'll be damned, I had no idea a recording from that day existed.

  • awsome

  • And to think, ten years later he'd be unleashing "A Day In The Life" upon the world!

  • This is so cool to watch. Kinda scary if you think about it but very fasicinating and interesting. It should be more than 5 stars but I guess 5 stars. Thank You Satfreee YOU ROCK!!! =]]

  • On sites that purport to have this recording they frequently combine it with the Quarrymen's appearance at the Rose Lane fair in June of 1957, rather than the St. Peter's Fete on July 6, 1957 which Paul attended. Paul was not at the Rose Lane fair, which really didn't amount to much but did arouse the jealousy of some yobs who threatened to beat John up. If the photo shows John on a truck bed in front of brick houses - that's Rose Lane. If he is in front of trees, that's the St. Peter's fete.

  • We can see here who is really Lennon if still there are some dumbass who don't know.

  • It is SO strange to listen to this. I cannot believe that this day was so well documented. We got SO lucky, I swear! There's even a picture of John and Paul together after this performance. What were the odds?

  • I've been wondering if there was a photo of John and Paul from that day!! Where is it??

  • Is there a photo of them in the church hall?

I've never heard of that. Ever.

  • There is one! Paul's 1984 Playboy interview:

PLAYBOY: "Do you remember your first meeting with him? A picture in the Beatles biography The Long and Winding Road is supposed to be the earliest of you two together."

(Paul looks at photo in book)

PAUL: "That's my mate Len Garry and Pete Shotton. Haven't seen him for years. This was the original Quarrymen. John was playing ukulele chords taught to him by his mum and he was singing Come Go with Me, by the Del Vikings..."

  • There is no biography entitled The Long and Winding Road that shows up in any search that I've done...

  • The closest thing that I can find is by Neville Stannard, published 1983 (subtitled A History of the Beatles on Record). This doesn't look like a bio, strictly speaking, but the date seems right.

  • Ta.

    I'll look for that, then.

  • Check amazon, that's where I found it.

  • Thanks, I'll do that.

  • The Long and Winding Road turned into the Beatles Anthology. It was to be an the official autobiography written by the Beatles themselves. I think they were talking about an accompaning film as well.

  • The earliest known photograph of John and Paul together was taken in October of 1957 in which the quarrymen are wearing matching jackets, but there is no known photo of them in the church hall on the day of their meeting.Hope this clears up any confusion.

  • Fook me! Fantastic.

  • OMG

  • very cool!

  • I guess I am confused. In 1956 Elvis sang "Baby let's play house". So is this the Quarrymen attempting to cover Elvis?

  • Yeah, the Quarrymen covering Elvis. John later revisited "Baby Let's Play House", borrowing from it to write "Run For Your Life" in 1965.

Amazing that these little snippets survived the years. Would love to go back and see it all unfold.

  • "I'd rather see you dead little girl than to be with another man"

  • I'm rendered speechless.

  • wow....that's all i can say....i've got goosebumps lol

  • The first one sounds like 'Give Peace a Chance', which, I guess, is just another peace of skiffle...

  • Is this actually the event where McCartney met Lennon?

  • I dont know about the sound(it would be truely amazing if it was) but the pics are definately the Quarrymen. I have seen those pics b4.

  • These songs are the only two tracks from the ACTUAL DAY they met. Someone recorded the show for some reason, and that's how we get to listen to these two songs :)

    I get goosebumps every time!

  • a sound byte of the new world order beginnings / remarkable

  • que original la verdad si alguien conoce el primer video que filmaron los beatles que ponga un comentario

  • Yo no entiendo. Lo siento.

  • Wow...

    I love YouTube.....

  • I know, right???? Luv it!!!!!

  • I thought there was only one photo taken that day too. Cool what we uncover here at YouTube!

  • I saw the tape and the machine that recorded it at the Rock and roll hall of fame in cleveland as part of the traveling lennon exibit. I always wanted to hear these recordings. I've been looking for years. they are everything I thought they would be. the sound quality was every bit as bad as I've been told it was... still what would the world be like with out this meeting of minds?

  • i try to watch the whole video but it stops at 16 seconds can you add this video again or something? Please i really want to here them sing baby lets play house someone help

  • People like Paul McCartney come along once every 50 years or so, John Lennon once every 100 years. We are so fortunate that they then met up with George and Ringo. = The greatest band of all time.

  • So then people like George come along every 25, and Ringo EVERY year?... haha...

  • I think they only come along once.

As George sang, "Tumbling through a thousand centuries

You don't know where you'll land

    It's so dark in mythology

Treasures of history to be found

    Near the legends of time

    All the handiworks remain there

    Only a dream away"

  • unmistakable lennon voice-the day he and mccartney met...the myth the legend the reality

  • Great story of how John and Paul met.

I also like the story of how George and Paul met on a city bus. We all know Harold, Sr. drove busses in Liverpool and he had to know every bus route in the city. George rode many a city bus in his day and it was on such a city bus (not a Magical Mystery Tour one) that my two favorite Beatles met and the rest is cultural history.

  • I do find it odd of all recordings to be found of the beatles this is the one that surfaces. Alot of the pictures with George Paul and John read like fiction.

  • I have also longer version of Puttin' on the Style with third verse. And all of those 1957's songs are authentic!

  • It the first picture a genuine photo? I always thought there was only one photo of the band taken that day.

  • yes, it's genuine

  • It the first picture a genuine photo? I always thought there was only one photo of the band taken that day.

  • puttin on the style is slower

and i never heard baby lets play house by the quarrymen before

  • That version of Puttin' On The Style sounds nothing like the clip I've always heard.

  • As far as I know there are two different recordings of the same song.
